Both teams were not at full strength, yet played the game with outstanding quality and pace... Uruguay missing Varela and Hungary Puskas (both captains) did not disappoint and staged a masterclass performance.
Mi viejo siempre me dice que la historia fue muy injusta con Hungría y que Uruguay perdió este mundial porque le tocó jugar contra la mejor selección de futbol de la historia que eran ellos y que jústamente la gente vivió esta época decía que era ésta no la del 50 la mejor selección uruguaya de todas.
Hoy muy poca gente lo sabe pero en el partido contra Uruguay Puskás no jugó por lesión y tuvieron que venir los alemanes que de por si ya eran increíblemente buenos dopados para ganarles.
@BurnRoddy Es muy cierto lo que decís, no jugó Puskas, pero también recordemos que a Uruguay ese día le faltaron por lesión nada más y nada menos que Omar Míguez (máximo goleador uruguayo en todas las copas del mundo), Julio César Abbadie (titular indiscutido y tremendo jugador) y Obdulio Varela. Así que por favor, reconozcamos toda la historia.
No digo que no hallan faltado. Siempre me sorprendió lo del ''Pardo'' pero por ej a falta suya estaba Hohberg para competir con Kocsis.
Y cabe destacar la mayoría de los titulares húngaros jugando estaban destrozados por las patadas y golpes de los brasileños en un partido recordado como de los más violentos de la historia mundialista.
Mientras nosotros veníamos de jugar una tole-tole contra Escocia y un partido más que accessible contra Inglaterra que al 2º tiempo ya estaban pidiendo la hora.

Uruguay también venía de un partido duro contra Inglaterra, y además Hungría también tuvo "su Escocia" en primera fase, recordemos que Hungría derrotó a Corea del Sur 9 a 0 y a una selección fantasma de Alemania por 8 a 3. Así que antes de abrir la boca al pedo sería mejor que se informara o por lo menos que sea más justo en sus apreciaciones. A Hungría le faltó Puskas y a Uruguay Míguez, J.C. Abbadie y Obdulio Varela.
Look harder - the standard is massively good. They look a little clunky in their heavy boots sure, and its difficult to ping that slow heavy ball around. They play some sweet stuff nevertheless.
Moncho although I agree that the Uruguay teams of this general era were outstanding, one thing you neglected to state was that they refused to partake in the World Cup in 1934 and 1938 so that "undefeated statement" is exaggerated.
......I will give everything to be there...to see that Hungarian golden team....to meet Puskas, Kocsis, Czibor, Hidegkuti....my god, what a team....the best of the best!!!......
This game means a hiatus in football history. It shows the end of absolute dominance of world football by Uruguay. Up to this day, it had never lost a game in wcf, and it had never failed to win the cup, whenever present at it. Hungary ´54 was, probably along with Netherlands ´74, best team ever at world cup finals.
