Not really. I'm sorry, but it didn't seem realistic to me. These endings are only the most obvious because that's what the stereotype of the weak woman predicts. If you don't marry, you might as well die.

Why couldn't the meeting have been with her boss, who's offering a promotion? The dilemma there would be whether or not she feels comfortable enough with her own mental illness to take on added responsibility.
