"Compare" or "compile" as in 'make the shadows'?

If it's the latter that's done when you save a map, it automatically asks you if you want to calculate shadows; just say "yes" to that and the game will do it for you (it does anyway).

If you're not seeing any shadows then they could be turned off for performance reasons, in which case you'll have to go into the games settings and enable them

I can't remember off the top of my head if the quality is automatically set based on what TM finds when it boots up. Failing that, you'll need to go into the games 'options' and change them from there - performance may suffer if you push them to high, depending on hardware you have.

Yes, you have to place those from the 'furniture' section where all the building bits are; they're the little square block things used for adverts. You place them and then click on the 'paint' button (iirc, will need to double check), that brings up a screen with various graphic options inc. the arrows.

ho do u connect the Start of a Loop to a piece of regular track? it wont connect for me. it's frustrating!!!

The only reason I can think for it not to work is that you're trying to lay the section down in an area that's not fully cleared. In other words, you've got a bit of track getting in the way; curves need a lot of space on the inside so anything occupying that area will stop it being placed. Check for that and try again (if it's a real problem just try laying a track in a new area to see if you can actually do it.. if you can then you know that's ok).

If it's in the way of the corner track section then yes, it's 'obstructing'. You'll either need to bridge it (put an elevated track section over it) or remove it.

That's why I went 'advanced' because you're right simple mode is quite restrictive if you've made tracks before. Might take a bit of getting used to but it's worth going 'advanced' so you have more control over what you do.
