  • I've been checking a few of your covers and there really great. Closest to the originals I've heard. Do you write any of your own stuff?

  • You do the best covers of Nick Drake. Love to hear you do a version of "From the morning" by Drake from Pink Moon.

  • Perfection mate!! I feel like I'm getting that rare chance to watch Nick perform live!

  • well played...one of the easier drake songs to play

you sing/play very well in this cover

the feel to it was genuine

a very relaxed song...tough at times not to lose the pase (i think you were just a bit fast at times)

but it didnt take away much from your performance.

again, great job. i loved listening to you

  • betwenn an apple and a pear I would choose the fruit.

  • i love how you can faintly hear the metronome... a good sign, and it shows.

  • wow!! you're really good!

  • Wow this is fantastic. I prefer your covers with just guitar and vocals. A cover of which will would be fantastic if you're stuck for ideas.

    thanks

    Sam

  • Great work man!

Do you have your own material? Or do you only play covers?

  • Amazing, I really enjoy your playing. Do you play out?

  • BRILL just BRILL

  • flawless

  • You're picking hand looks like a sea creature entity separate from your body when you play that one.........what else are you involved with besides playing Nick Drake? Any classical renditions?? Great stuff thanks..........

  • Excellent. Every woman will fall for that.

  • Yeah, agreed, excellent

  • holy fuck that was excellent

  • Love this version. Voice suits also.

  • You have made the best covers of Nick Drake I have heard. You make singing and playing his intricate style look easy! Excellent.

  • Absolutely amazing ! So close to the original version. Great guitar skills ! How long does it take you to learn a song ? Do you use tabs from internet or playing by ear ?

  • Hi again Plectrum,,was wondering where the song appears?,i,ve searched around without any success, any help would be appreciated.

  • 'time of no reply' album.

  • Or 'Made to Love Magic' album. its an album with original recordings from his cambridge years. only released in 2003/2004.

  • you seem to be one of the more skilled people that cover drake tunes on here. ever made any attempts at playing 'rain'. would love to hear someone do a clean recording of it.

  • You are just amazing. The best videos to watch when wanting to watch some Nick Drake. And we all know there's no footage of Nick performing. So, there you go. Since this is the closet to watch Nick Drake performing, I do dare to have a request.... Free Ride !.... thank you for posting all of these great videos. Cheers !

  • Just brilliant! I wish you would come to Britain and do a tour (on the wheel?)

  • i usually have a negative prejudice towards Nick Drake covers; this, however, is amazing!

  • incredible performance

  • Good goin!

One of the more accessible of Nicks songs

Hard to believe that "Black eyed dog" was cut at these last sessions - thats REALLY hard to listen to ..

I really like this. One of the better of his posthumous tracks (up there with "Joey"!)

    Peace out!

  • Great cover. Great voice you have there.Always enjoy watching & hearing your Nick covers.

  • Great cover, as usual :)

Wish you could do a cover of "Know".

  • Thanks for your positive comments,I'll keep your request in mind.

  • I always get surprised whenever I see you play and sing. Don't you have any songs you wrote? I really wish I could listen to it if you had one.

  • It´s every time very nice to hear you covers of Nick.... you guitar sounds always so accurate and your voice so gentle.

  • Holy... stunning, really. You need to play this stuff live man! closest renditions ive heard, well for a long long time.

  • Thanks very much for all of your positive comments and for subscribing.

  • Another amazing cover. 5*'s from me.

  • Hey,thanks again.

  • yoou seem to have the same stereo problem as I have... sounds great with fmt=18 here, without its flat... I am stuck with my video upload today cause in mono youtube is "eating" effects and whole tones cause of the phasis.

  • Thanks for your positive comments and for subscribing..Yeah,as I've commented in the past, the fact that youtube converts to mono is quite frustrating..Before I was aware of this I initially posted in stereo and the conversion played havoc with the mix,as you put it "eating" most of the reverb.Afterward I was able to post a few vids in FLV which kept the audio in stereo but that was before youtube caught on and started converting those as well..At this point I just post everything in mono.

  • Rich -

For some reason, the opening reminded me of Fleetwood Mac's "Not Going Back Again"

Nice to see you and the guitar again!

  • Thanks again Jess...yes,I think there is a slight similarity between the 2 songs.

  • Sorry, Rich, meant "Never Going Back Again" - but glad you knew what I meant. :~)

  • So wonderfully done...

I love the way you play...

    5****s

  • Seriously, what do you do for a living? Cause all these amzing covers must take up alot of time.

  • Thanks again for your positive comments...I've been lucky enough to be making a living as a musician...doing these covers doesn't take as much time as you might think,I do them for enjoyment in spare moments.

    Amy

  • Thanks as always for your comments Amy.

  • Amazing, just amazing. Really glad you did that one.

  • Thanks,I do remember it was a request and I'm glad you enjoyed it...I'll keep Time Has Told Me in mind as well.

  • Great job!

  • Thanks!

  • It sounds so clear and full! :)

  • Thanks...glad to hear it sounds good on another set of speakers.

  • ahh, YES, another great live performance from plectrum34!

you are incredible, sir. do you ever play live in NYC?

  • Thanks again for your positive comments...I do play quit a bit in the NYC area, mostly private party's but also at a couple of Irish pubs in the Times Square area...it's a very different gig than this, mostly up tempo classic rock and pop tunes.

  • Excellent Rich I'd like to ask a couple of questions here:

Did you you work with the premise of creating accidental incidentals (mouthful) on the low E?

Also, do you think Nick tuned his Guild up or droned the low E?

I've tried the droned G because I'd be a bit to scared to tune that high up also! Whew! brave!

  • Thanks Walt...I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "accidental incidentals",as I mentioned in the description box I'm alternating playing the A and E string for the low bass notes in the pattern to give it a more legato,"drony" sound...not sure if Nick played it like that but I think there's a good chance he tuned it that way since Black Eyed Dog is almost certainly tuned with the Low E up to G and both songs were recorded around the same time.

  • Thanks much Rich! That's primarily what I was trying to figure out, i.e. whether low E was sharpened up to G, or down an octave. "accidental incidentals" I recon might be interpreted as if Nick even used the 6th string at all--I should have been more specific. In other words, occasional notes would have been hit on the E string, or resonances coming from it. Many thanks!

  • If it were your ambition to do so, you could have a lucrative career as a Nick Jones impressionist. Perfect.

  • Thanks for your positive comments...not sure how lucrative it would be but it would be nice if there were that many Nick fans out there.

  • *Puts down guitar, bows head, and walks away*

  • Thanks...but pick that guitar back up and keep playing:)

  • Perfection again. How long does it usually take you to nail a Drake song like that?

  • Thanks again...it's not so much learning these songs as it is working on my fingerpicking in general that's time consuming since I've never really been that comfortable doing it,I'm much more naturally a flatpicker.

  • Yes! Another video! & it's more Nick Drake!!!

    You're awesome. That's all.

  • Thanks again for your positive comments.
