Is this a Thein Ben van Dijk model? I just checked the website and they're about $17000 AUD! What was the reason that it was in Australia? It's definitely an instrument that you don't come across very often (if ever!) Man I would like to get my hands on one

@basstrom88 You see them quite often actually. Mostly in the orchestra pits for operas. Wagner and Puccini have in almost all their operas contra parts. Also in orchestra literature it is used, only not as often. Some famous pieces which use the contra are "Ein Alpensinfonie" by Richard Strauss, and "Gurrelieder" by Arnold Schonberg.

If ya want one: Get a load of money, or a rich sponsor who hasn't got anything better to spend money on. ;-)

This is indeed a Thein Contrabass trombone in the key of F. There are contrabasses in BBb that have a double slide - but generally speaking they do not play as well. The F contrabass is the most favoured.

The video is meant as fun - if you read the description you will see that we literally just unpacked the instruments. One would need to spend a great deal of time on a contrabass to play it in tune.
