i heard the acoustic to this song on my way home from school one day, and i got pissed at myself because i couldn't think of the name or band. everyone on the bus was bitching and moaning "change it to the rock station" and i wanted tohit them so hard. this song is more rock than any of the music they call rock today (except if you listen to your rock station. but big time rush and selena gomez is not, i repeat, NOT rock, contrary to the average 13 year old beliefs. it's more like fucked up r&b)

@StealthParadox What version of music theory did you learn? These songs are in contradictory keys and STP uses way more jazz voicings than Pearl Jam. STP was recording this album when Pearl Jam appeared on the scene, but did not attempt to copy them. They just happened to have some similar vibes. Synchronicity. Love them both, at least the first few albums from each, but I still get annoyed at the comparason.

The song's chord structure was inspired by Robert DeLeo's love of ragtime music, and its lyrics were loosely based on a newspaper article Weiland had read about a girl who had been found dead in an area outside of San Diego. Weiland has also said that the song's lyrics are a metaphor for a failed relationship.
