  • THANK YOUUUUU!!!!!

  • Thank you very much for your help man!

  • How do I fix latency on the "playback audio while recording" option?

  • gah. i thought it was just me. ive been trying to make harmonies, and it was delayed like no tomorrow, as was the click track. this program is exasperating

  • Thank you so much. This has been keeping me from recording my guitar. Thanks.

  • subliminal squirrel.

  • @bomberbadj he's saying it right. it's lay-ten-see not lat-en-see

  • just drag the track hahahaha

  • Thanks, that was wrecking my head!

  • there isnt a latenct option on my version of Audacity. i have the latest one

  • YOUR VOICE IS PISS ANNOYING STFU!

  • Learn to say latency..... PLEASE.....

  • thank you so much

  • THanks my guitar tracks were pissing me off..i was like WHAT the fuck is happening i had perfect timing...

  • THANK YOU!

  • is this latency for software playthrough or just normal latency?

  • ok now can i run beta using XP? I'm only running 512RAM and a 1.8GH processor. Is my system even powerful enough?

  • My Problem is that the Latency is CHANGING! Pls Help :/

  • 2:02 Squirrel?

  • My version doesn't have the time stamp at the bottom or the latency box. x__X

  • Hello, can you please help me! D:

when ever i change the pitch down (even at -3) the voice gets really really deep and sounds horrible. do you know how i can fix it? :(

  • thanks so much, this is just what I needed to fix my audacity!

  • Your a saviour..i recently set up a studio with no clue of how to fix this problem until now...goood video!!!!!!!!....also i did notice the subliminals lool

  • subliminals

    A

  • Hey, I just started using audacity, most if not all the songs don't play the full length. Is there anything I can do about that? Any help would be appreciated.

    Sanch

  • dude. you saved my life. I was going crazy.

I literally changed operating systems because (amongst other reasons) I couldn't record two tracks in a row.

    cheers

  • The new version of Audacity does not have the latency problems. I just tested it. Version 1.3 (unicode).

  • @ryanistherhyno weird, i just downloaded it, and it's still there..

  • wow thank you. I think this ought to solve the problem for me!

Now to work out what number to correct to...

  • The latency is a great band.

  • Useful video! Thanks!

  • omg ty SO MUCH! i finally fixed a problem dat has been bothering me fo YEARS ^^

  • audacity wint even let me start recording when i hit the record button =(

a box pops up and says "Latency Problem, Latency correction setting has caused the recorded audio to be hidden before zero"

    WHAT DO I DO?

  • you just allowed me to continue making guitar covers via audactiy, I LOVE YOU THANKS :D

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU SAVED MY LIFE!

i have been trying to record a guitar part over a song, and everytime i played it back after recording it was off by a lot.. and i knew my timing wasn't off. this should fix my problem, thanks a lot.

  • squirl at 2:02 lol

  • that is not a good way to correct latency. That method has everything to do with how you said it (speed). To correct latency record a metronome, then either tap along with the metronome as you record anothher track, or start the metronome at exactly the same time as the track. the difference there is the latency

  • Please help my problem is when I record using [Play new track while recording] so I can hear myself in the headphones, I hear my voice lagging and it throws me off. How do I fix this problem, this is not the same problem is it? please help !!!!!!!!!!

  • @TubeOfPsychoAnalysis Hi I have same problem regarding input sound to mic in Audacity...a time lag... have you been able to fix it. If so can you tell me please :)

  • Great job...this is perfect.

  • QUESTION: how can a record mi mixes from my mixer using a interface audio 4 dj?

  • Excellent!

  • Audacity 10 doesnt have this issue

  • @deomartinez77 or 1.3.10 I mean

  • thanks Jimmy! you just saved me a lot of frustration.

  • dawgg yuh the bestt

  • my problem is when i record my voice it's really fast . i dont know what 's the problem :(

  • I have adifferent problem where say you have two audio tracks of different parts from the same song, when I get very close to having it timed perfectly theres this wierd phaser type noise that apears when i play it again, how do I stop this

  • Jimmy, thanks for your efforts mate, I'm having Audacity latency problems ...The current free Audacity did not have those same toolbars so I've gone back and downloaded that 2007 version of audacity ....I've adjusted latency to minus thousands without any effect on my latency.

Any advice? What am I being stupid at ?

  • latency isnt my problem, all my audios are slo-mo. what do i do?

  • a Squirrel? 2:02

  • this really helps :) thanx !

  • Do you know how to fix latency in Audacity 1.2.6? thx

  • i was getting really frustrated, you helped a lot. Thanks.

  • thanks for the tutorial

  • thanks so much

  • I think Audacity has variable latency according to my PC's CPU usage. I shall use your suggestion though, thank you very much.

    Clarissa

  • ahh! i love you right now. thanks soo much, this has been driving me nuts for awhile and i had no idea you could just fix it in the program like that. now my tracks are recording in time right off the bat :)

  • Thank you for this!

  • i find it hard to believe that audition 3 doesn't have a setting such as this.

  • too much fucking around...just get a better sound card.

  • sound cards cost money. if i had money, i wouldn't be using audacity...

  • you're my hero haha. i never used to have a latency problem until i got a new soundcard and it was getting so annoying always having to align my tracks after recording! THANKS A BUNCH!

  • cool

  • I have cool edit pro and I have this problem but can't fix it can someone please help me out it's really important it was working a few days agoo and then Idk wth happened

  • He's sending us subliminal messages in the form of Squirrel Images.

Gah, you evil New World Order, commanding us to gather nuts and live up trees.

tsk tsk tsk... evil evil evil... =]

  • There's a better way to do this. Using vocals allows for too much measurement error. If you want to make the correction much more precise click on generate and choose to make a 'click track'. Any click track settings will do. Then use your mic to record the click track playing back from the speakers, headphones, etc. Then adjust the latency as described in the video after measuring the difference in milliseconds between the original click track and the recording of the original.

  • By the way, I'm not sure if this will help those of you having problems with the latency starting off correct (or seemingly so) and slowly getting off time as the track progresses. However, If you compensate for the latency correctly and you record with a click track, you should stay accurate from the beginning to the end of the track (in theory). Click tracks/metronomes are too often underrated.

  • @umphreak42 Thank you. Spot on!

  • whoa what was that thing at 2:02????? looked like a squirrel or something.

  • LoL, you right. i think its a squirriel

  • When I try to align a vocal track with a guitar track, for some reason certain parts of the tracks do not align and other parts do. Is this something i'm doing wrong or can this be fixed by fixing the latency?

  • Uhh all you really need to do is select and cut the difference between the two tracks, its alot easier T.T

  • or you could fix the latency so you never have to do that again

  • @jimmyrcom

When recording musical tracks, I like trusting my ears for each track than changing the latency.

Is there a guarantee that the latency will be the same for every time you record?

Or can it depend on the state of your computer at the time (such as programs running at the same time).

  • @jimmyrcom Well said! Thanks for your vid man.

  • when i record a new track, it seems to record at a different speed. ive corrected the latency so the start lines up, but it just gets more and more out of time as the track progresses. any help?

  • that might be a computer performance issue

  • mine says error while opening sound device. please check the imput device settings and the project sample rate

  • One tip to make it even more accurate: generate a "click track", hold your mic at your box, record the click track and tataa you can perfectly correct the latency!

  • thanks for the video!

Now, recording with my POD xt is a breeze!

  • how did u make those dots shape stuff cos i wanna know

  • No matter what number I put in the latency correction the latency does not change. I don't understand.

  • yup. i have the same problem. i have no idea.

    you found anything yet?

  • I was looking for something so that I could hear what I was currently recording, play accurately while recording. I guess it's impossible though.

  • yeah i'm in the same boat. i've researched it a ton and haven't found anything. all the solutions that people have are things that don't work for me. i just cannot correct the latency at all.

if you find anything let me know, and i'll do the same. good luck.

  • so my version of audacity doesn't have these options in preferences at all... nothing about latency at all in the preferences.. whats up with that??

  • beta

  • yeah i found it out, got it working now... Thanks :)

  • thanx dude great video...the animal threw me off but whatever lol

  • thanks! this was one of the reasons i stopped using audacity because the offset was getting EXTREMELY annoying!

  • Great video - really helps me - thanks!

  • dude pull back a bit... we cna see everything fine from father away... your making everybody dizzy

  • hes doing it so small because the screen recorders arent reallly efficient. Even if u have a fast computer it still looks choppy because the fps would be small. so its better this way cause its smooth

  • Well that's a good point.

  • Thank you very much, i work with audacity a lot with my music. this really helps and makes editing tracks fast.

  • thanks for posting. I'm really having a problem with latency delay.. thanks...

  • Thank you sooo much!!

  • how do you make your input playback not lag

Im playing a guitar and it lags when I record

  • grr i have audacity 1.2.6 and theres no latency in the preferences! GAH!

  • thank you very much for taking the time to record and upload this video. take care

  • Dat was wicked bro,, thanx,,

  • how do you change the audio buffer length?

  • Thanks a LOT, man. That really helped me out.

  • Very helpful! THanx so much!

  • wtf squirrels XD ur good at that. i subscribed. can you approve my request plz. :) tanks. and yes i mean to say tanks. it sounds funny.

  • Thanks for the info man, I've had a whole lot of issues with the latency thing before. I'm gonna try this technique and hope it hepls.

  • How do a make track marks without glitches between my audio tracks using Audacity, can anyone help me?

  • Oh god I love you.

    THANKS.

  • Broken Video Bro

  • subliminal message?

  • dude thanks this helped alot!

but a better way to get it really synchronized is to go to generate and make a click track to base it off of.

    thanks for the help!

  • exactly... you can either feed the click track back into the input or just record a click and then feed it back.

In audio editing 1ms off-sync already causes flange effects, so you really want to line it up exactly, and a click is much better at that.

  • This came in handy. I was having timing issues with the old version so I downloaded the new audacity version. The funny part was that the recording was too far behind in the old program. In the new, it jumped slightly ahead. But, adjusting latency has helped me.

  • Does every download of Audacity have the same latency problem ? I am not sure if having a problem, if there is ,it is very slight.

  • ty dude

  • this is very well explained. I didn't know about the shift+left click function...that should make selection a little bit more like goldwave. thanks, yo.

  • My only question is... how do you know you started to record the two tracks at he exact same moment? I just recorded a half dozen tracks while trying to start at exactly the 1 second point and the tracks varied in both directions - both early and late. Since you are adjusting for milliseconds, its important to start recording at precisely the same time. But I don't see how you can do that.

  • ps, The recording starts off in sync, but gradually gets worse. I removed audacity from my pc and downloaded it once again. Same problem

  • I imported a backing track to audacity, made a few guitar recordings over it everything was fine, But now my recordings are out of sync with the backing track when i play them back. Is this also a latency problem. How do i get it back in sync?

  • Thanks alot man! This is what i've been looking for a long time..

  • subliminal message

  • oh my god!! i was freaking out because i couldn't get the vocals and guitar to sync up while recording, and i was so happy when i saw this. thank you!

  • Very helpful! I was able to fix it right away!

  • thanks a lot man! I was having problem with a solo.. it just wouldnt play back right.

  • Great info - thanks! It took me a while to realize you were using the beta version, but I've downloaded that now and will try setting the latency!

  • you rock.. thanx!

  • Error while opening the sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.WTF IS THIS?

  • Slightly different topic: I sent email to the Audacity developers to request a feature. What do you think of this feature? I would like to be able to swap the right and left channels on a stereo track, or otherwise manipulate the channels (edit, move them in time, etc.) Do you think this would be a good feature? Or is this something that one should never be trying to do?

Thanks again for the awesome lesson!

  • Awesome lesson! This is fabulous information because without this knowledge, one is not able to record more than one track and mix them together later. Like record a guitar track and then add a vocal track, then mix them.

Thanks again for the great lesson.

  • WOW! You have no idea how much time you saved me! Thanks so much for posting!

  • BTW there are more accurate and quicker ways to check the latency. I used a drum machine.

  • Thanks, this worked for me. Getting rid of the latency actually makes this a viable multitrack program. You should note that you're using the beta version here. The beta is really an improvement, though it did crash on me once so far. Thanks again, for saving me a lot of time.

  • is this porblem in all versions of audacity?

  • when i record with audacity the sound sounds horrible

  • this is very helpful. i use audacity for all of my recording and i used to spend most of the editing time trying to line different parts up, and that usually resulted in many tracks for maybe just one verse of vocals.

  • thx so much

  • good stuff...

  • Quick question: Does your latency change over time? I followed along with this video, and it all worked, but will I never have to change the latency again after I've punched in the correct numbers?

  • it should probably change every time you record something. you cant have perfect timing every time. the latency could even change in the same track.

  • ahhh...okies. That's why! I thought it was my laptop. XD thanks!

  • i have a question i can't really find an answer for, when i record over an mp3 i can't hear the mp3. my speakers/headphones are on and functioning.

  • good tutorial

  • i can;t see the latency section in preferences... i think mine is a diff version of audacity

  • I start the vid by saying, "the new version of audacity"... get the beta

  • oh yea, yea.. sry... i realized that afterwards..

  • I don't have a length bar at the bottom lol

    :(

  • i prefer a heath bar :)

  • Fantastic, really helpful.

  • one question why is my audcity silent like i say something in my mic and it sounds so silent

  • Looks like you need to set up your inputs.

  • plug ur mic in?

  • plug ur mic in?

  • is it possible to silence the voice of a singer in a song so u can only hear the beat of the song by using audacity?

  • never mind i found out :D

  • wo, crazy flash thingy

  • very helpful thanks.

  • "You wont have to adjust the stupid audio anymore"

    AHAHAHHA!

anyway thanks for this tut. i had latency problems :[

  • Very good. Thanks very much for a very good video~~

  • Thank you for solving this issue! Great video but could you try and improve the quality of it! Perhaps by using more proper terms. For instance , "chunks".

  • This helped so much. Thank you.

  • What Soundcard would you recommend for recording stereo? i wanted to get things like the sounds from games but its horrible. Do i use record from microphone or stereo? Please help.

  • Yea teh Audacity doesn't have very good documentation. This is much better.

  • For some reason mine's decided to be retarded :S. I have the beta version and if done as you've said in the video only to realise that my latency can be quite drastically different each time i record something, so even though I've dialed in the latency correction my recording can still be either late or even early compared to the origional :S any ideas? cheers

  • it's not working... i have the beta version, but when I open prefs, it is a different layout. there is a place to adjust latency, but it doesn't work.

  • wow thank you. I like some other people I thought my timing or rhythm sucked. thanks for this video.

  • YES!!!! YES!!!!! i didn't even know you could do this!!!! THANK YOU!

  • ok tnx i think i will weit for a stable
