I grew up in Shiprock New Mexico (Navajo Reservation) and served in the Navy as a Submariner. While in the Navy I have met many Navajo's who served proudly in the Marines and Navy defending and representing our sacred homeland. As my Command Master Chief once said to a group of us sailors. "This Navajo who grew up on the reservation is one highly motivated, truely dedicated sailor who has self discipline, self reliance, and self initiative" I contribute this remark to our Navajo way of life.
I am only a quarter navajo but even I can say that I still have that blood in my veins despite the fact that I lived with a 100% white family after being adopted. Basically saying, you can live your entire life without even knowing about your true ancenstry, but that Native American spirit will never be hidden, even if your ethnicity is.

I grew up in Shiprock New Mexico (Navajo Reservation) and served in the Navy as a Submariner. While in the Navy I have met many Navajo's who served proudly in the Marines and Navy defending and representing our sacred homeland. As my Command Master Chief once said to a group of us sailors. "This Navajo who grew up on the reservation is one highly motivated, truely dedicated sailor who has self discipline, self reliance, and self initiative" I contribute this remark to our Navajo way of life.

I am only a quarter navajo but even I can say that I still have that blood in my veins despite the fact that I lived with a 100% white family after being adopted. Basically saying, you can live your entire life without even knowing about your true ancenstry, but that Native American spirit will never be hidden, even if your ethnicity is.

We lost a Navajo Warrior on 2/16/10. U.S. Marine LCpl Alejandro J Yazzie, 23, of Rock Point, Az. while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Our thoughts and prayer go out to him and his family. God bless.
