btw counterpoint is the name for two or more melodic lines that move independently of eachother, often times moving in opposite directions on a scale (ascend/descend), yet they harmonize with eachother.Ex:In Cmaj, if we had one ascending melody going"c,d,e,g" and another line doing "g,f,e,d" while descending, simultaneously, we would have a simple counterpoint harmony. Hear what they sound like together and it will make sense. Listen to Baroque music, esp. js Bach, he is a master of counterpoint
pitch axis theory is just satriani lingo. It just means one note from the chord your on is in the next chord. Its really just a way to find a chord to come next that isn't expected, changes key, etc but still "fits" in some sense, harmonically, because one color from the previous chord is also in the next chord. Its a good way to get some sweet sounds but i can't really call it a valid theoretical approach
I often wonder if lars and Het think about replacing kirk his playing is so repiticious and there are 1000s of better players out there, and i do think the mighty met need a change in there sound?Im not saying tony would be the perfect match. But he can shred with the best of them..................................a terrible thing to say BUT it should've been kirk on that bus in sweeden?????AND NOT CLIFF. R.I.P. RANDY,DIME,LAYNE,STEVIE RAY
@DARRINCONNOR1 Wow that was harsh man... but I think I might have to agree with ya! If Cliff was in that band they never would've turned pop... or atlas I like to think so
3 jealous douchebags who are good at typing on a keyboard but really bad at playing guitar!

@shadowoftheshire there's no such thing as valid in music theory.. Any established rule of thumb in music can be broken at will.

It's not a speed lick, it's a phrashing lick.
