This as is disrespectful to Michigan and it's future. Now you know why people refuse to move here and businesses don't wanna start and grow. Cuz of this non sense making our governor look like a tax hog (even though she won by one of the biggest margins in MI history). Without this tax, MI and it's citizens will never grow and compete. Our schools will fall. Thanks Naysayers for the 16 years of nothing.
No, because I'm lucky enough to not work in the automotive industry (the industry that fuels our economy and who is being challenged right now). It's doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why we are economically challenged...WE ARE TIED TO THE BIG 3! If you naysayers would stop cutting school funds and other funding to help our citizens then maybe our Michiganders could apply for the VACANT positions that need at least 2 years of college education!
Excuse me? I'm already paying out the nose for all kinds of things the government thinks I need, more than half of which is totally unnecessary. Have you checked out Granholm's budget yet? She has increased spending and added programs EVERY year she's been in. Under her watch, agencies overspent and she looked the other way, then demands more of MY money to pay for her lazy refusal to get spending under control.
Almost all of those new programs were paid for with tobacco settlement money, not tax dollars. Save your bullshit conservative talking points for someone who cares.
untrue. check out the facts before you start calling names. facts are facts whether one is a dem or GOP-er. Save the little kid reaction for other libs.
When you send your children to public schools or travel on our roads, you're using a service that is provided by taxpayer dollars. People who don't want to pay for these services and yet use them anyway are freeloaders. They are at par with the same people who use welfare as a way to get something for nothing (as opposed to those who actually need it). They're scam artists and should be ashamed of themselves.
1) I'm fine with paying for roads. That's a perfectly legitimate role for government.
2) I won't be sending my kids to public schools. Is it a problem for me not to want to pay for a service that I don't plan on using?
3) I'd guess that the argument being made here is that raising taxes in a state that trails the nation in business development is going to be counterproductive. I don't think your comment(s) counter that argument in any way. Care to give it a try?
Well if you want businesses to continue to go to other states because our schools aren't teaching kids the skills they need for the new workforce, then fine. Don't pay your taxes. I'm not trying to convince you, you're a right wing idiot. Jesus himself couldn't convince you to invest in your home.
An eloquent comeback there, worthy of Jefferson himself.
Look - businesses go to other states for a simple reason: it costs too much to do business here. Too much tax and regulation. Granholm can raise taxes all she wants, but all it will do is drive away more business from the state. It's not a talking point; it's reality.
I'm not your enemy, so cut the "right wing idiot" crap. I just have a contrary opinion to yours. If you can't engage it like an adult, then just let it go.
Actually that is false. New York has the highest state taxes in the US and last I checked they're #12 or #13 in the nation in terms of unemployment. Texas has the lowest taxes and they're #28. Conservatives love to brag about Texas and yet they're not even in the top half of the country. We've deregulated business and it hasn't helped any. When it was done on the federal level we got a recession.
But the repeal of the SBT has made our economy even more unstable than before. Not only has the deficit caused our state's credit rating to go down, but businesses are reluctant to come here because they can't make up a budget if they don't know what kind of tax is going to replace the SBT.
And I wasn't kidding about the schools. Now the Publicans are admitting that they're going to cut school funding. If you want Michigan to be unable to compete in the new information economy because we don't have the resources to teach our kids, then feel free not to invest in education. I want my State to do well, though, so I'll have no problem ponying up the dough.
OK, whatever. I could continue to argue with you about taxes, andI could point out that there is no evidence that simply increasing spending improves education. But there's no point to it. You're wedded to your views and think I'm a moron. So whatever.
Stop raising taxes you evil moron Granzilla freak. I PAY ENOUGH - over 33% I'm going poor!!!

@MartyBarret Gramholm's plan was to raise every tax she could. Even inventing new taxes.

Schools are over funded.. we just have unintelligent teachers and/or aids being paid just because they belong to a union.
I would pay any good teacher a great salary... but I refuse to throw good money after bad.

Just a bunch of Republican freeloaders who want to get stuff from the State without paying for them. They're worse than welfare cheats.

???
Seems like it's Granholm who wants to take something from us, not the other way around...
