good review but i have to disagree with the naked scene yeh nobody wants to see man meat flopping around but, the reason behind why he got naked was fucking badass...i mean straight up chuck norris badass, he has all this armor and weapons n shit but he wants to fight the monster on an equal lvl because the monster doesnt have armor or weapons so i mean how badass do you have to be to take on a giant rage monster in ur birthday suit just to make the fight more even? come on now better than sex

looool at the black guy, he's completely useless and they still let him talk. "I didn't really...connect with the characters" wtf do you think this is, the Matrix ?! It's an epic tale, you don't 'connect' with characters, you analyze them as metaphors like in a novel. You're not supposed to connect with Golum or Leonidas.
The movie was funny. Beowulf strips everytime he goes into battle. Remember the part where this guy wanted to kill him, and Beowulf suddenly strips down naked and told the guy to battle him? No wonder he didn't want to battle him, I'd be scared shitless if some guy suddenly strips down naked and told me to attack him :/

I kind of like this film. I've seen alot of various adaptations of Beowulf and very few are accurate (try the 1998 animated one or the narration by Benjamin Bagby for that). Grendel Gendel Grendel, Beowulf and Grendel, Beowulf 1999 etc. I can deal with some differences as long as the source material is there. That was a bit off too, but the story was still there just from other points of view. It isn't as bad as the 1999 version at least. But I would like an accurate Hollywood version someday.

They used motion capture in this movie, just like in the new games.
They talk their lines and act (while being dressed in a special suit and filmed by a lot of different cameras), but they get textures and effects added to the basic animation.
I'm not talking about lip syncing, I mean in CG movies the lips never look like how real lips would naturally move and just look like creepy computer twening. This happens in movies like the Polar Express but not movies like Beowulf and Shrek.

I honestly thought this was one of the worst movies I had seen. The poem was great and this movie doesn't do it proper justice. Basically this is a whored-up version of the original story and I'm very disappointed in the director's decisions for the film.
My friend and I rented the DVD and watched it on my computer, and we were so bored after barely half an hour that we just turned the movie off. I really think the 3D effected their ratings. Even if I had gone to see it in theatre, we don't have any movie theatres that show 3D movies where I live.
I thought the animation was good from times to times without the 3D but it went to computerized throught most moments however I just enjoyed the movie for what it was, but I swear to god, if I hear the name "Beuwulf" one more time I am going to eat 2 pounds of salt, lol

See it's flawed, but it's actually the best I've seen when it comes to having a movie that's pretty good in it's own way. I mean it's certainly better than the 99 version and not as in your face as Beowulf and Grendel even though I love Skarsgard.
compared to the game i think this is just bad acting, here you just hear Beowulf whisper his awesome speech while in the game you hear him yelling it to everything with a passion, it really gave me chills how good that was voiced :P but yeah, in the game instead of using a door to hurt grendel he just literally rips his arm off.

I actually thought it was more believable and deeper than the book. People can be very greedy and stupid at times and like to put it there way despite certain facts.

I don't know if you were being sarcastic or not, but he cut off his arm, not only cause his arm was probably broken by the chain he was hanging off of the dragon with, but by cutting off his arm, he was able to pierce the dragon's heart.

Are you guys kidding me? This movie was sooo bad. It felt like it no direction whatsoever, the CG was lame and unnatural and the story was over-the-top in a bad way. I'd say rental, if not bullshit.

maybe if you actually picked up a god damn book and actually read the story you wouldnt need to nit pick the movie. the movie gave just as much back ground of the characters as the book did. like i said its not that type of movie or maybe this just wasnt a good book to make a movie from either.

See it's flawed, but it's actually the best I've seen when it comes to having a movie that's pretty good in it's own way. I mean it's certainly better than the 99 version and not as in your face as Beowulf and Grendel even though I love Skarsgard.

This movie would have looked a lot better if the CG characters had not looked like the actors.
Because the characters looked like the actors, you constantly compare the real life to the model. Of course the model is going to look flawed.
The plot didn't flow all too well, but I agree that it is a fun movie.

compared to the game i think this is just bad acting, here you just hear Beowulf whisper his awesome speech while in the game you hear him yelling it to everything with a passion, it really gave me chills how good that was voiced :P but yeah, in the game instead of using a door to hurt grendel he just literally rips his arm off.

I hated this movie. It was really hard to follow and I didn't care about or felt connected to the story or characters at all.
The only reason I saw this movie was to hear the amazing Idina Menzel sing the song in the credits

The movie wasn't terrible but its no full price. Because of the fact that the CG is very awkward at times and the story was changed to much and had me thinkin like WTF? where they thinking. Other then that the action scenes were awsome and the voice works were pretty good two.

the story sort of did something new like the old boewolf story said that grendle mother was all evil and he killed her and after year he went back home and killed a dagon at the end for some reson
but in this movie its like behide the story like that he did it with gredles mother
and the dagon was his son
and also in ireland where pg 13 is a 15s

I saw a lil bit of the trailer on tv and i didnt even realise it was CGI and when i saw the actual movie it was a shock but i enjoyed it. Its the best CGI ive seen the action seens were great but i fell asleep half way through it (maybe because i was tired) but it gets abit boaring after awhile but all in all it was a great movie. I'd give it a matinee

I actually thought it was more believable and deeper than the book. People can be very greedy and stupid at times and like to put it there way despite certain facts.
Ex: Taking grendel's head instead of the mom's. I know the real reason, just saying.
I loved both of these versions but the book was great. At least you guy's have to admit it was the best of the Beowulf movies.

Great story, but I really hated the movie :( I thought it killed it, and since I grew up with a familly full of history geeks, I saw al the flaws and it just ruined it for me. Like how Grendal's Mother is wearing high-heels and stuff like that.

I don't know if you were being sarcastic or not, but he cut off his arm, not only cause his arm was probably broken by the chain he was hanging off of the dragon with, but by cutting off his arm, he was able to pierce the dragon's heart.
