The problem with electric cars, and cars in general is 2 fold. Weight and space required. With cars, most of the required power is used to move the car, not its occupant, meaning that no matter what power source is used the car will be inefficient. Secondly cars require much space for what is usually one occupant.

Lets look at another fact, Americans are FAT! I love the part where the guy says how can you put a family of four in that.. How many times do you see a car with one occupant.

The answer lies in reducing urban sprawl, and using bicycles more. This gives the benefit of less obesity. America should look to places like Amsterdam, and Copenhagen, for answers!

@KrunchyJD I think you are right but remember when Amserdam and Copenhagen were planned as cities and towns when cars did not exist, America had not been colonised, and transport was slow. As such planning was centered around slow moving transport in short distances i.e. walking, horse, tram, bicycle. I believe that this problem can be solved through cycling but not as we know it.

Its not a question of the type of bicycle people use, that is personal preference, but seeing biking as recreation and not transport is also part of the problem.
