Another great book on the events covered in Montrose is "Alasdair MacColla and the Highland Problem in the 17th Century" written by David Stevenson which argues that the victories were essentially due to the Irish troops
Recommend the biography of Montrose by John Buchan! I picked it up in a 2nd hand bookshop in Arundel, West Sussex for £7!! His campaign in the Highlands 1644-5 is surely one of the most amazing in military history....
This track was recorded live at the Winter Gardens, Bournemouth on 7th March 1978 - the album is not hard to get in Australia as I have both a vinyl and CD copy. This song took up 3 years of my life as I did a post graduate thesis on Montrose because of it
This is such a wonderful recording, to hear the 'uncut' version is a delight and a treasure. Thank you for this and for letting me know, as the record would be hard to get in Australia. Do the liner notes indicate when this particular recording was performed? Love and affection for Steeleye Span who instilled in me a love of melody and harmony - and Maddy Prior.
it is a big ask ...and you have done some much....more than we should expect....could you please post the lyrics????

Stunning vocals from Maddy. I'm Irish but I don't care about the politics! Absolutely love the music and Maddy's voice. The Passion!

@millstreet11 The Irish contingent led by Alasdair MacColla was crucial to Montrose's success!

@Hicksie52 No surprise, Scots and Irish make a formidable foe.

The best of all the Grahams, followed perhaps only by Bonny Dundee.
Brilliant leader of men, tactician, sadly let down by those he gave his life for.
God bless you Montrose, one of Scotland's all time heroes.

@nacho1560 Very true! I'm amazed not more is made of his achievements! There is a Montrose Society I believe

I feel somewhat scared/scarred by this. I blame my mother.
