@sacriel42 thanks for responding, 1 more question, whats you're CPU? I'll be buying i5 2500k alone cweith 7970 3gb. Im not trying to show off or anything just curious how my gaming play will be even when it gets busy
@PilatuS23 My thoughts are the same with my 7970 new setup. Check my vids. But yeh with MSAA at x2, the only times when i need to turn it off is the B2K maps. My system is stock. Not OC my cpu, but my 7970 is the Black edition and did come OC'd.
I want to have 60fps all the time. A few drops to 50fps now and then i don't mind. But i don't ever want the framerate to dip below 50fps. Even on Caspian Border i found that with 4xMSAA the framerate would go far below 50fps at some point. I don't like to play a multiplayer game with a low framerate. For me the difference between 60fps and 40fps is huge.
@hamtetutu I dont tend to notice, I use sound cancelling headphones 100% of the time so I have no idea how noisy my 6970 or 7970 are. I'd recommend checking something like toms hardware
what is your CPU? I'm thinking of upgrading to 2 7970s or 2 from Nvidia to match with a i7 930. My concern is that my CPU will either bottleneck or cause my total wattage to get out of hand. -- Good clip
@Saki630 Your CPU is very rarely a limiting factor as far as I'm aware, load the game, spawn, alt tab to a performance manager and you will likely see your CPU at 30% utilisation
@Saki630 Your CPU is very rarely a limiting factor as far as I'm aware, load the game, spawn, alt tab to a performance manager and you will likely see your CPU at 30% utilisation
I'm going to be completely honest, I play this game on medium-low setting and i don't see any MAJOR differences and yet I run it on ~50 fps..optimization on this game is amazing
What's the difference between the SV98, L96, and the M40? I've heard a lot of people say the M40 is much between than the other two, but there doesn't really appear to be that much of a difference...
@Tehflu42 there is a damage difference, the m98 hits a lot harder, also each sniper rifle has a specific bullet speed which changes the amount of drop - I find the sv98 the closest to the baseline BC2 drop which I spent a lot of time perfecting.
Finally -- good that you're back (can't wait for the chopper tutorials you promised ;) ).
Question: how can you cope with the noise level of the 7970 in case you are playing without headphones (personally I am waiting for the XFX 7970 dual fan to become available).
@kettleresprit overclocking is taking a peice of hardware and force it to work harder than its original specification, nowadays lots of hardware is sold as 'overclockable' meaning its almost designed to be pushed furher, but often has a downside of overheating which means you need reasonable cooling in your computer case to counteract the heat.
@T9Eugeneslim im breaking 100fps, im recording at 60fps, not sure why everyone is playing the 'my dad is harder than your dad' game with graphics cards
@sacriel42 Because they're jealous. Lame really. Weird though, you say that this is recorded at 60 fps (I do believe you don't worry), it's just it doesn't look like 60. Somethong sort of stuttery about it. Did it render at lower FPS then or something?
I want to get get rid of my GTX465 and I'm really tempted to get the 6970. Don't know if I want to wait for Kepler just because there's probably going to be better driver support and the physics technology is a added bonus. Oh and at the moment the card seems to be overpriced, maybe because rival 28nm cars are a few months away. Any tips?
@SolidMGsnake if i record at 24fps, when i turn quickly it only recordes a few of those frames, if i record at 60+fps i can slowmo and viewers will see every detail
@sacriel42 just one thing to note when you have such high fps- you could use pixel blending option if you have it in your editing program(or vfx program like after effects). That makes slowmo smooth by not just blending consecutive frames, but actually calculates the inbetween frames so you really get more than 60 frames/sec(ofc digitally calculated frames, but it looks cool as hell). =)
@SolidMGsnake 24 or 30 fps is just too low to play with and this resolution and framerate, 1 minute of raw fraps video is about 6+Gb on your harddrive. So you have to compress it anyway before uploading.
@kukikarlolukaps3 Adobe after effects, the footage is recorded at 60fps but once uploaded to youtube its flash-ified, if it was -recorded- at less than 60fps, when i turn fast you wouldnt see each frame, it would skip like mad

With 4xMSAA you will have drops to about 40fps. On the Back 2 Karkland maps its worse and really not playable with 4xMSAA.
I now run on Ultra with 2xMSAA and SSAO. Sometimes i have drops to about 50fps but overall it runs great, even on the B2K maps.

@sacriel42 really? My cpu is usually around 90% in bf3. phenom 960T. Even when its unlocked to a 6 core. Right now i just use it as x4 but at 4.4ghz.
Jaymobe07 1 month ago
@sacriel42.
30% ? My i7 950 @ 4.2GHz runs at 60 to 90% on all core's with BF3. Not a single core will ever hit a 100% but 30% is nonsense.
To bad the 7970 is not enough for 1080p at ultra settings. Even with an overclock to 1150/1600 i still get framedrops to about 40 when it's busy.
