  • Can someone get me the sheet music for this please

  • beautiful, thank you. I really needed that.

  • It's amazing... Yo-Yo MA is amazing

  • At the end he's like "Ho-ly Shit... I'm awesome."

  • phenomenal cellist.

I don't like the piece personally, it only has one colour.

The cello suites by Bach are of a different league :)

  • It almost sounds medieval, or renaissance music. In fact it would sound far better on a viola de gamba, methinks!

  • sound is too scatchy has nothing to do with the music which I am sure is great.

  • So sweet!

  • Please, please, please people, get the title right. It's Appalachia Waltz, not Appalachian.

  • @drewsinky I know it bugs me so much..

  • I am so fascinated in watching Yo Yo Ma play this piece, because it's really quite difficult to play chords on a cello and make it sound as good as he does. He makes it look 100x easier than it actually is...

  • IT'S BEING PLAYED B ACKWARDS ????

  • @fiddlnbanjo wat are you talking about no its not its the way it recorded

  • @fiddlnbanjo wat are you talking about no its not he's playing everybodies part he's playing violin part the viola part and the cello part

  • this is the greatest peace on the cello I have heard, even better than Prelude of Bach cello suite #1

  • i´ve got this on a cd. Yo yo Ma cd. Too much sensitive song. Deep emotions and time for reflexion.. Simply beautiful.

  • Art!

  • this sounds funny. but very good.

  • I love this song...Makes me think of, well, Grandma because she lives in the mountains.

  • Shame that this version is so scratchy and poorly mic 'ed. Yo-Yo Ma's tone is so much more smooth and brilliant and refined than what is represented here.

  • @veedub87 Its nice to see someone other than my Wife say that, my skin in this video wasnt as smooth as normal it was because Nebraska is very cold and Contrary to common belief Nebraska is lame And Cold .

  • My son is learning to play this on his bass, for me, before he goes into the Air Force...:)

  • Learn how to mic a cello!

  • you people are stupid saying it sounds bad...of course it does, because the sound hasn't been enhanced!!! if you listen to this song on the album it sounds 10X better. and most other professional cellists enhance the sound quality in these videos, retards

  • if you ike it , enjoy it. other wise go somewhere else but quit criticizing what you dont like!!!

  • I don't agree. So according to you, it's only allowed to praise something/someone? One should be allowed to criticize if it makes sense or is constructive. Here, it wasn't the case for the ''horrible player'' but I don't think xylenz was serious.

  • Nobody in the whole world agrees with you. Not even a little bit :)

  • are you kidding? yo yo is sooo much better than rostropovich and those others. their playing is mostly too dry and heavy.

  • Perhaps there are better "cellists," in the sense that some MAY have a better grasp of the instrument's abilities. I would not, however, claim that ANY of those cellists have a more intimate musical understanding than Ma can articulate in his music.

  • are you sure he wasn't joking...?

  • Truly amazing! A Mark O'Connor classic played so beautifully - I am blown away yet again.

  • I love his pieces. I have this song for cello solo and Butterfly's Day Out as well. this pieces is much more difficult, because the thumb position is so low, and my cello's fingerboard scoops down right where your thumb is set (E and A on the D), and it hurts like crazy!!! but still a very unique song!

  • I saw him perform this piece as an encore in one of his concerts...it was pretty amazing to say the least

  • there's a time for rock'n'roll and a time for yo yo

  • Thats not his Strad - It's the 1733 Montagnana.

  • @Celloics Thank you. I love comments like that on YouTube. Just another wonderful thing to look up and learn.

  • A Strad sounds like it lacks so much sonority when there's no acoustic. This is actually not that slow. Maybe it sounds that way because of the double stops.

  • i saw him in 2001 and he was amazing

  • yea, but he's also great at fiddle tunes. its easier going from classical to fiddle than the other way around. he was amazing in Appalachian Journey.

  • Please, don't give this video a low rating due to some problems with the sound quality, because the rating unfortunately will go to the performer, and Ma's interpretation here was just magical! It's the way that microphones are being placed that makes it sound a little bit weird in the beginning!

    Thanks for posting!!

  • so beautiful !!
