I also think, from Neil's initial admittance that they would not normally "do this sort of things" - that Neil was referring to the genre of the talk show. It is a Gay talk show, that they would not normally do -- my presumption is because Chris was not comfortable with it.

Neil, on the other hand, seems to be very mature in his own views and sexuality. By the time this was recorded, I am sure Neil was perfectly comfortable with the idea of appearing at Gay network.
