Even if he was in the middle of a fight to the death he would leave the fight to rescue Rin. They kind of chose each other. Rin was the first human he had actually held, & her heart beat supprised him. She intrigued him.

I've been reading the manga and im up to date and the manga has no hints of him loving Kikyo what so ever and probably never will and it never happens in the anime.
