They appear as playable monsters in Monster Rancher 2, In order to unlock them you must send a monster to the torles mountains expedition where they will find a footprint in a snowman shaped cave. that's what it says on monsterrancher. wikia.com/wiki/Jill

@Rallikt The Phoenix is a large bird that has flames engulfing its body. It’s a legendary and very powerful monster that has to be unlocked in every game it appears in. Phoenix is based on a creature in ancient Egyptian and Japanese mythology and is described as a sacred firebird: a symbol of fire and divinity. In Monster Rancher 2 you get it when you go to the volcano a first time, and find a Fire Feather. Combine it with any two monsters you get a pure Phoenix.
