The only Mao style communist govt, is NKorea. We won the cold war in which Vietnam was a part. Our decisions became asymmetrical after realizing the US public would no longer support our involvement in SE Asia. The weight of communist inadequacies collapsed the world communist system. We earned a great deal VC lost big.

The treaty was just a facade for the US to leave with some dignity. In truth the North was still allowed to supply the communist forces in the south. The US administration knew that the the north had began preparing for another invasion and they abandoned the south. The south didn't even want to sign the treaty.

Viet Cong collapsed and the NVA had to take their place. Then we got to kill millions and millions of those hard little bastards from the North. North Vietnam was beaten and signed a peace treaty with the USA in 1973 so that we could leave. They broke their promise with the South and attacked.

You don't read history do you. Well many of us lived it. US/North Vietnam signed a peace treaty in January 1973 effectively ending US participation in the war. We won all our battles killed million of the enemy and then gave it over to the S.Vietnamese to keep their country safe. @meghan42 US won all battles. North Vietnam's head military leader general Giap states that the North lost 1,5 million uniformed and 3 million non-uniformed soldiers fighting in the war, 350,000 NVA were never found, only 58,000 US troops lost their lives, I call that whupping North Vietnam's ass.

The only Mao style communist govt, is NKorea. We won the cold war in which Vietnam was a part. Our decisions became asymmetrical after realizing the US public would no longer support our involvement in SE Asia. The weight of communist inadequacies collapsed the world communist system. We earned a great deal VC lost big.

Communism has failed big time. War is politics by other means. Our goal was not the conquest of Vietnam or else we would have held ground and kept it. We killed 1.5 uniformed and 3 million non-uniformed NVA compared to our losses we kicked ass properly, communism lost period.

@tientienlao The objective of the war was to keep South Vietnam from falling into the hands of the Communist and in 1975 the North took over the entire country so yes the war was lost. The treaty was just a facade for the US to leave with some dignity. In truth the North was still allowed to supply the communist forces in the south. The US administration knew that the the north had began preparing for another invasion and they abandoned the south. The south didn't even want to sign the treaty.
