  • The winner Robert Hegyes is hugging is my mom!! Seriously!

  • RIP Robert Hegyes

  • @doggysector, Dick Clark was 49 years old when he did this episode. His 50th birthday was on November 30, 1979.

  • Is it just me or does the dude with the afro look like The Rock?

  • @devares2006 - Kinda...it's actually Robert Hegyes, who played Epstein on Welcome Back Kotter.

  • I believe Terry Davis was on Another World as stacey Winthrop

  • @eurotomm She played April Scott on "Edge of Night from 1977-81 then went on to "Another World" in 1982-84.

  • I always liked the Rhymin nigga Nipsey Russell when he was on. Love that man RIP NIP

  • "Chuck Barris, who was a mad man, he's crazy, and I was on the phone with him . . ." listen closely for it at 0:24.

  • What is even more amazing is that Dick Clark was 50 years old when he did this episode. Wow he looks about 30-35 at the most. The guy never aged.

  • You are right! I think he was drinking liquid money or something! That is why it is so difficult to watch him after his stroke. I am happy to see him on TV every New Year, he always looks frustrated trying to get his words out. Great host.

  • Did the $50,000 pyramid have flashback intros like the 10000, 20000 and the 25000 versions?

  • The $50k version did not. Though on a couple tournament episodes the three contestants would stand in front of the big board similar to what the Davidson version did as the announcer mentioned that "one of these players must win $50,000 in cash this week on "The $50,000 Pyramid!"

  • Is that robert hegyes in the winner circle

    at the beginning

  • Yes it is Robert.

  • How much did he win for his partner? $10000 or $15000?

  • $20,000 bud, there was never a $15,000 version of the show.

  • Comment removed

  • @Doug4422 - Yeah, but it could've been a $15K win...on the $20K version, you played for $10K the first time, and $15K the second if it wasn't won, and then you played for $20K on all subsequent attempts.

  • I like when Dick picked up the chair after the win. lol

  • You just made my LIFETIME worthwhile!! I have been dying to see a slate opening of the $20,000 Pyramid. New York Pyramid era openings are my weakness!!

Hope you can continue to make it worthwhile with more openings!! =D Take care!!

PS: Saw your collection and I'd KILL to see an Alan Kalter $50K opening or an early Cullen $25K opening...=D

  • I can hear someone talking about Chuck Barris over the slate production...lol!

  • that's Dick Clark, lol

  • Apparently he doesn't like Chuck Barris!

  • Chuck Barris was Dick's worst enemy on American Bandstand in the late 50's/early 60's. Chuck was the S&P (Standards & Practices) representative hired for ABC to oversee Dick Clark Productions, making sure that no 'payola hanky-panky' was going on behind-the-scenes.

  • Listen carefully...He says "One of my closest friends in the world is Chuck Barris...He's a bad man..." Dick and Chuck are very close. Dick was teasing about him, calling him "bad."

In fact, Chuck said that when he was assigned to watch Dick, the entire staff hated Chuck but Dick was the one who made him feel important and bore no grudge.

Dick later wrote a nice jacket blurb for Chuck's book "The Game Show King."

  • Sounded like he said Chuck was a MAD man.

  • Well, Dick is right, He was! :p

  • @megamanj2004X Yeah, you hear Dick Clark talking about Chuck Barris.

  • I love how you got to see them dim the lights before the intro started. :)

  • The celeb you're referring to at the 0:49 to 0:54 mark looks a lot like Robert Hedgyes (Juan Epstein from Welcome Back, Kotter).

  • That is indeed him, and he was also on "Cagney & Lacey", too.

Speaking of flashback intros, the 2nd one looks eerily familiar. Gee, I wonder where have I seen that second one before...

  • that's right, because he also appeared on one of the final weeks leading up to the 1st cancellation of the (New) $25K Pyramid in very late 1987.

  • Was it $10,000 or $15,000? I know the second one was $20,000 because of the flashing $20,000.

  • There wasnt ever a $15,000 Pyramid.

  • Yeah, I wonder... lol ;)

  • That was a serious 'fro Robert had goin' on.

  • In the opening, how much did the man won at 0:49 and who was the celebrity that won it, if anyone recalls?
