@reymatt76 Have you ever owned a BMW? I got mine certified pre-owned and it is by far the best car I've ever owned. It is reliable, very comfortable to drive and sporty/responsive. Some people own BMW/Mercedes for materialistic reasons... others own them because they are quality vehicles that also look good ;-)

@jayci68 Nope I have never owned one. Funny how a BMW is "pre-owned" and every other car is "used." One of my friends has a BMW. Yeah it drives great. But twice in my life while sitting at a light I've had a drunk driver cream me and total my car. On top of that, living in a city, people bump you in parking spaces, parking lots, even sometimes minor incidents on the roads. I don't see a point in becoming attached to something that could be gone in one second.

To risk the security of your home, for a flashy car, is extreme stupidity. It's this core of screwed up decisions, that lead to the housing collapse in the first place. Don't you people ever learn? You don't f*** with the security of your home for something that -- in a few years will have no value -- no matter what the interest rates are.

though for the most part I agree that home equity loans should only be used to increase the value of the home, that might not apply here. She might have used the home equit loan because the interest rate is lower than if she got a car loan. She could have using her home equity to save some money. Not that this is something I would have done.

If you're taking equity from your home to do renovations to increase it's value, that's one thing. To spend it foolishly is quite another. And taking equity from your home to buy a $33,000 vehicle is a fool's decision.

So a $33.000 home loan to pay for a car! The Car won't lose that much value that quick, yes it takes a big hit at the start but they make good cars. Mercedes and BMW make high quality cars that retain some good value. Not Equal value no!

If your financing a car and the dealer bank offers you 7% on the loan but you can get a home equity loan at 4% fixed term then that's the only way you can think about doing it. The problem is if you lose your job and can't make this equity payment you lose your house. But hey at least you get to keep the car. :)
