Avp2 by a long shot! Sure Avp 3 has brilliant graphics but so what, it's a boring game in comparison to it's predecessor. It's also too short, and the storyline in 2 was way more engaging; better yet it actually felt like it was continuing from the films. From the moment I started playing it I felt like I was in the film Aliens! Being the predator was cool too they did a good job capturing it's design from the predator film more so than avp3.
The best part about AVP2 was the worst part about AVP3 the aliens had classes like the drone which was the balanced one the runner which was crazy fast the predalien which was crazy strong hell you could even turn into a pretorian if you got a kill streak but in avp3 its the drone with slightly different skins
AVP2 is better hands down. It delivered a complete sense of ALIENation (chuckle, chuckle), likable characters, and an intelligent plot that we've come to expect from Monolith. AVP3 attempted to replicate all of those, but achieved the exact opposite results. AVP2 felt like it was adding to all of Alien and Predator movies, while AVP3 felt like it was recycling recent AvP movies. Running from the Alien hive in AVP2 is still one of the best adrenaline rides you'll ever find in a video game.

AVP 2 wins for sure. Why? Welll I didn't like how did aliens work, thousands of them running very fast dieing by few shots but hurting plenty when got close, but after all it was pretty fun campaign as all species. Also loads of custom maps and campaigns, mods, skins.... AVP3 doesn't even support that, they rather made expensive mappacks that no one bought anyway, instead they should have focused on fixing the broken multyplayer, like heavy attack cancel, and tail attack from the wall...
AVP2.. avp3 had okay singel player but multiplayer was bullshit. The block,and melee things ruined the game + those stupid executions. funny the first time but then it became annoying and made the game more luckbased than skill based. The executions should have been in singel player only imo

avp3 seems kinda unorigional. in avp2 you felt mor alone, which adds to the fear factor. in avp3 the aliens move slow and kinda fail, as opposed to the ones in avp2. the building structure in avp3 seems kind of uncreative, in avp2 it was more dynamic. all in all, im gonna have to say avp2.
The motion sensor sound in AVP3 seems to have lost its touch if you know what I'm saying. Sometimes I barely notice its presence anymore.
The dialogue also plays a part. The marines in AVP3 thought they were on some sort of crusade. In contrast, AVP2 marines constantly expressed disapproval on continuing the mission. That added to the creepy atmosphere.
Although AVP3 look far better, a AVP2 remake would totally destroy it.
it's not even a question that AvP2 is the best of all them. Rebellion failed hard with making the good old multiplayer from AvP2 into a rock scissors paper shit.
I can say avp2 was way better. Not instant dying like in avp3. multiplayer is really sweet in avp2 and single player had much parts that might have scared you :P
Although the duel wild pistols thing is cool I'd say the second one is better. Of course I dont have the first game so I cant propely judge that question.

I like both AVP2 and AVP3, but they both have some problems, the firs one isn't so realistic, the marine can't kill an alien with a knife, the problem with AVP3 is that the campaigns are too short, just that but the game is awsome, excellent graphics and a good gameplay, not to mention that it is very realistic, raporting to the movies, some people say that aliens in AVP3 move too slow, but watch the movies and you'll see that they move just like that.

@avplgv I like AvP 2 better, the missions are longer, more guns and the predator has more stuff to play with. I never used the plasmacaster in AvP 3, shoot 3 charged shoots and the energy is gone, and the campagn was easy so I never needed the plasmacaster anyway.. And I got tired to return to the same places in all campagnes in AvP 3, and do almost the same thing to, so the game feels shorter that way. It would be nice if the marine, alien and predator had there own levels
AvP2 because it did the multiplayer best. Evac, Survivor, the variety of weapons on preds/rines, the way melee actually took skill, not all this homing melee bullshit they had to add for consoles. Better maps, sweet editting tools. AvP2 is the penultimate AvP game to date if you wanted the genre for the multiplayer. AvP3 is a bastard child abomination dumbed down like all good PC titles are for consoles.

@Wakipenda I wouldn't recommend getting AvP3 honestly, its single player will only net you MAYBE 5-6 hours MAYBE. Its online community has all but withered and died due to how horrible it is. Last I heard sierra had shutdown the mp servers for AvP2 which is sad :( but I've heard rumors there theres a method you can use to still play it online on separate servers. Not sure though haven't looked into it.
For all the idiots who didn't play AVP2 before judging, AVP2 was probably the awesomest game at its time. An ppl are still playing it. They actually tried to create a mod to get multiplayer back. Both have their pros and cons I havent played AVP 2 but I have played the gold edition and AVP 3 ....AVP 2 was probably the prime game to play for all the fans out there. As far as the gold edition I loved it. And I do miss the taunting button which they should've put in AVP3, But I never played online with either of the PC versions which I'm sure I'd be pretty decent at. As far as AVP3 though I'd have to go with AVP 3 even though they could've put a little more into it
