Not suggesting that Musir wouldn't have won this race anyway? Because he's been very impressive on both surfaces at the 2012 Carnival. But I do think this race would've been much more interesting if Mendip had ran as well in this race as he did when he won the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 2. I think Musir and Mendip have proven themselves to be 2 of the best, if not the 2 best tapeta surface horses that have raced at Meydan over the past 3 seasons. Both have some big race wins on this surface.
I thought this looked like the Musir seen at the Dubai Carnival in 2010 that dominated the UAE 2000 Guineas and the UAE Derby. He looked a lot better in this race to me than he looked a year ago in any of his 3 tapeta surface starts in the Firebreak Stakes, Al Maktoum Challenge Rd.3, and DWC. l also though Master of Hounds ran big to close like he did. He'll appreciate the step up in distance next time. Not sure where he'll land next? But I think Mendip will be better next time out for this run.
I backed Mendip to win this race and I don't think he ran that badly coming off of a 10 month lay-off. But Musir was impressive today!! Much the best in this race. Musir looks very fit and strong in his coat right now to me. Mike De Kock told the Racing Post that he think's Musir is even better on turf than tapeta. So he might be looking to switch him over to turf now?? Since he has Bold Silvano and Master of Hounds for the other two 10f Al Maktoum Challenge races and the Dubai World Cup. JMO.
