@innavoig123456 la canzone NO e italiana!!! e una canzone russi - Дорогой длинною ("Dorogoi dlinnoyu"), escrita per Boris Fomin (1900-1948) e letra da poeta Konstantin Podrevskii.
@mauquiroz We rode on a troika with bells, A lights flashing in the distance ... Ah, how i would like to follow you, To deprive my soul from the boredom Chorus By the long road,by the moon night With the song, which flies away ringing With that ancient and seven-stringed which at nights so tormented me But it turns out we were singing for nothing, Needlessly burning night after night. If we did away with everything old, So these nights also moved away Chorus
@mauquiroz But by now passed a long ago I didn`t write last couplet yesterday (there were some problems on site).here they are In native distance by new ways We fated to go from now , We rode on a troika with bells, But by now we passed a long ago
I do not know if everything is correct in English(My native language is Russian) -but i like original poetry more, than Hopkin`s version.
@friend256 my dear... I am not Russian so do not miss understand what I will say... but just for your information... The song "Those Were The Days" is actually and originally a Russian Song called: "Dorogoi dlinnoyu" which means "By the Long Road" by the Russian song writer Boris Fomin in 1926. Gene Raskin just put the english words for it in 1960. Most of us do not know that because of the lack of media and recording devices as well as the Iron Curtain lock down during the Soviet Union era.
@discouniverse Don;t say anything thing masty about someone else's ethnicity...the same could be said about yours... I doubt that you're even 1/8 Russian!

Two weeks ago my daughter and I sang "Kalinka" in a restaurant near Tsarkoe Selo after seeing the Catherine Palace. It was thrilling, unforgettable...why can't we have peace on earth, we are all so beautiful, every one of us!
in the west we fear russia and its geological and militairy power its ambitions and there menality. but why should we fear a population wich made a song like this. its wonderfull
This is why I love YouTube! I never knew anything about this song other than Mary Hopkin, and now I've seen different versions and this superb Russian arrangement. Thanks for posting!!
I love this song really much. listens to it a lot when I was little with instrumental stuff.. but didn't have a chance to find out the name :). thank you for sharing.
He isn't singing the song "those were the days" he is singing a song called "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" An American called Gene Raskin (who sang with the "limelighters" and who recorded it first) wrote the lyrics for the song "Those were the days" and used the melody only from the song "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" Дорогой длинною ("By a long road" or "along a long road") which was written by the Russian song writer Boris Fomin with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii
@Freyja1133 This song? Do you mean "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" Дорогой длинною or "Those were the days" Sheet music for "Days..." is easily available on e-bay or other various music sites as for "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" type in the title in a search engine and the best of luck there are many 'versions' out there.
@Freyja1133 If you are looking for the Boris Fomin / Konstantin Podrevskii song "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" Дорогой длинною sheet music, I wish you luck I have been looking for it for many years. If you are looking for the Raskin sheet music for the song "Those were the days" then it is easily available from ebay or other on line outlets. As for gypsy music I have no idea.
@Alekc1313 no eto muzyka eto cyganskaja muzyka, a slova ja dumaju tozhe ochen poxozhyje na bradiagskije cyganskije pesni :) tak govorit shto eto ruskaja nacionalnaja pesnia i stil eto uzhe chepuxa, ja neochen liubliu cigani no eto ix pesnia, a nie ruskovo naroda :)
@richpat My name is Alex Fomin, am I related to Boris ? My parents were from Russia ( father Rostov Don ) my mom ( Zhitomir Ukraina ) I was made in Austria , Salzburg, born in Sao Paulo, Brasil now in Chicago and Miami, happiness to all !
The melody is Russian, but the song was not translated, an American Gene Raskin wrote the lyrics for the song "Those were the days" this is not a translation from the Russian song "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" which means "By a long road" or "along a long road" The song in Russian Дорогой длинною, was written by Boris Fomin in the early 1900's with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii.
Mary Hopkin had the biggest and best known hit with this song.
He is fantastic and this song is wonderful. I added it to my favorites. Joelma , brazilian singer , recorded this song when I was almost a baby and I never forgot it. Congratulations!
Does anyone know where in russia this song comes from?

He isn't singing the song "those were the days" he is singing a song called "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" An American called Gene Raskin (who sang with the "limelighters" and who recorded it first) wrote the lyrics for the song "Those were the days" and used the melody only from the song "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" Дорогой длинною ("By a long road" or "along a long road") which was written by the Russian song writer Boris Fomin with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii

I 'm curious
Freyja1133 1 year ago
@Freyja1133 This song? Do you mean "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" Дорогой длинною or "Those were the days" Sheet music for "Days..." is easily available on e-bay or other various music sites as for "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" type in the title in a search engine and the best of luck there are many 'versions' out there.

@richpat I'm looking for the original Russian gypsy 'version" of the sheetmusic
Freyja1133 1 year ago
@Freyja1133 If you are looking for the Boris Fomin / Konstantin Podrevskii song "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" Дорогой длинною sheet music, I wish you luck I have been looking for it for many years. If you are looking for the Raskin sheet music for the song "Those were the days" then it is easily available from ebay or other on line outlets. As for gypsy music I have no idea.

This is a great one! Added it to favourites now.
Many does not know this is actually a Russian song. Not at all an English one.

to Uusikaarlepyy
The melody is Russian, but the song was not translated, an American Gene Raskin wrote the lyrics for the song "Those were the days" this is not a translation from the Russian song "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" which means "By a long road" or "along a long road" The song in Russian Дорогой длинною, was written by Boris Fomin in the early 1900's with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii.
Mary Hopkin had the biggest and best known hit with this song.
