Plus, Ryuk even said "thing are gunna get pretty boring around here now that L is gone" yes rebuilding the world and all, but yea, it was gunna get boring and Kira knew it. Plus kira constantly was saying "it's been fun L" right before he thought he would win, because for him, it was! :p

@xHermione31x They did in the films. As I recall the ending, L writes his own name in the death note and gives himself a month after Light regains his memories. He then uses that month to prove that Light is Kira, and dies peacefully at the end. Even though the movies suck, I think it's a better ending. L was a one-of-a-kind character, you can't just split his personality into two people.
