One company produces under it's allowed amount and so it sells the extra amount to a company that produces over it's allowed amount. So what happen to TOTAL? NOTHING! Thanks to this system people actually make new companies and simply sell off the allowed carbon credits to their company to other heavy polluting companies so again nothing changes except who gets paid.

@PyroMancer2k but companies will be forced to put in their budget the amount of carbon they produce. they now have to pay for it you see? and now a company when faced upon the choice between two tecnologies, the less carbon emiting has become more profitable, there is now a serious economic reason to buy that less polutant tecnology.

Thanks to the EU ban on smoking in trains...I have stopped using them for long journeys and fly instead (yes, I know I could give up,...but this decision is mine and not the EU's).

If they took the heat chart and laid it OVER the Carbon graph, the heat rises FIRST and the carbon follows. Why isnt anyone talking about that? They just show the graph (one on top of the other)

The film is fiction and propaganda.

The reality is that the EU has enforced liberalisation promoting more and cheaper flights increasing aviation to a totally unsustainable level. On their own website, the EU even advertises that the Union have caused cheaper plane tickets. But not that it has caused increased pollution.

It is no coincidence that the EU, USA and USSR have the U in common.

Co2, Co2, What about the Contrails, lines of exhaust cloud 8-12km up, that spread to form a blanket of frozen reflective acid-rain cirrus (contrail-cirrus) that traps the suns heat and by its physical presence will obviously change the climate and weather below it.

New Boeing 787 Dreamliner is more fuel efficient than its competitors and produces 20% less CO2.

This could couse Airbus some problems with sales when CO2 trading starts.

Yeah, but the 787 does not hold as many passengers as the A380 - even when factoring the A380's lowest density seating configuration. A 20% saving on CO2 will not account for much if the 787 needs to make 2 (or more) trips to transport the same amount of people.

<I>Anyhow, the A350 XWB's statistics will certainly supersede the 787's in terms of efficiency and emissions.</I>

I agree. The European transport commission should have the money and the means to build out extensive high speed rail, or if it's found economically feasible, even maglev. Instead we have a situation where we have to wait for the planets and political climates to align just to build a small stretch which isn't even planned from an European perspective.

In 2012 TGV will run at 360km/h (225mph) and Siemens/Bombardier ICE is already running at 350km/h. If you take a look to the projects in EU the rail grid is under construction.. but it can't be made in 1 month.

Anyway air traffic can't be replaced for long distance or trans-oceanic flights (EU-USA-Asia-Australia-Africa)­. The A380 will be stretched for 1000pax and bigger versions are possible. This will increase efficency. Boeing will certainly do something on its own. Things are going on ;-)

The faster the train the more energy it needs. High speed trains do not save enough CO2. How about a slower pace of travel (life, too). More time for watching the countryside pass, less hurry, less stress, less CO2.
