@jasbuc It's Small... but My deep Passion for Him make it bigger! :) I met in halloween the last year, and he autographed my books, I'm in the video on His official web site. Halloween 2009.
Ah yes. When I bought the supposedly uncut version of Tenebrae on VHS it had a picture of the woman with her throat cut with a red anti-AIDS ribbon on her neck! WTF? I know what Argento is talking about. Stupid censoring.
DVD is without censor! Damn wonderful!
And his take on the Saw movies as having no soul. So true.
I realy enjoyed suspiria. and no! that was not Bobby Rhodes! that was somebody trying to promo something.
it seems in all darios movies it delivers a theme and with that theme brings a messgae. i am yet to see tenebre or the bird of the crystal plumage seen as they are not very common in Australia. But i think dario has come up with some brilliant movie ideas and i would advise him to keep writing. He has set a history for horror movies.
Einstein was a genius, Darwin was a genius...Argento is just a filmmaker. One who hasn't made a decent film in decades. Those who still praise his work are are a bunch weak imbeciles who obviously don't understand the mere notion of what quality filmmaking is all about. Time to grow a spine and move ut of your parent's basements, fellas.
I get what you're saying, but you shouldn't be judging his fans, that's not cool. and although it may not be with this guy... some filmmakers could very possibly be geniuses. it's a great way to get a message out to people, thru movies, or thru books. and also, Einstein and Darwin... they were amazing, but couldn't you have come up with any others? that was so cliche.
I could have come up with other names of geniuses, but then the fans of Argento - whom most I'm sure are of mediocre intellect- would not know who the hell I'm talking about. So yeah, so much for cliches.
I used to love Argento in my teens but as i started to explore Italian cinema more in my 20's, i finally realised why a small group of snobby Italian critics in the 70's thought he was a joke, because he is nowhere near the level of film makers like De Sica, Antonioni or Fellini. He is like a porno director next to those guys.
No wonder the Italian film industry went down the toilet in the 70's. Argento made 2-3 decent films, but he is no fucking 'genius'.
@lamentate07 ahahah of course stupid... argento made great HORROR films... of course he cant compare to great artists like fellini.. its like saying ''wes craven sucks compared to tarantino or spielberg''
@BornToDie90 Tarantino is a junkyard director compared to the old greats too.
But no, it's not 'stupid'. People have, and do, compare Argento to the big guns, and that is the problem. IF you accept him for what he is--a horror director--there isn't an issue. It's only when he is defended as more that the problems occur.
Hello I'm Bobby Rhodes actor in other 2 Dario Argento's Movies(Demons and Demons 2),i would like to invite you to check my officiale Tube channel, where you'll find a short interview and news related my upcoming projects.
Not human, meditation facilitates whole brain functioning, turning on more of the right brain. The right brain is the "artistic" side of the brain, so I would have to disagree with your comments. Meditation expands your ability to understand art IMHO.
NNH, I only wish torture and death on people who inflict the same to others. An eye for an eye type philosophy seems fair to me. Art should never include acts that harm people or animals IMO.
I agree with you totally. Art does not have the need to harm anybody but yet show in the screen whatever it want to show. And the eye for an eye is also my type of pholosophy
I was interviewing him one on one! It was only my second interview ever, and to be honest he's one of my all time favorite filmmakers so I was a bit intimidated.
Phantom of the Opera is the only film of his that I absolutely could not make it through, and since he had pretty much made offered his own take on the story with Opera I'd be curious to know why he felt the need to remake a story that's already been told and retold a bajillion times.
Indeed, but I still regret not bringing up "Phantom of the Opera" when he started dogging on remakes. It would have been interesting to hear what he had to say.
Argento enjoyed mixing in real animal cruelty scenes into his movies, that is enough to steer me clear of his work. Too bad the POS was not put in prison and raped every night until he died from Aids.
Great interview. Watching this makes me wish I knew Italian so I could watch some of his Italian interviews... you can tell from his eyes that his mind is racing faster than he translate his words into English.
I WOULD LIKE A HORROR MOVIE WITH DARIO ARGENTO AS PRODUCER, DAVID CRONENBERG AS DIRECTOR, JHONNY DEPP AS LEAD ACTOR AND FIORE ARGENTO OR MONICA BELLUCI AS LEAD ACTRESS....I SAID FIORE, NOT ASIA! (i am concerned fiore is a fashion designer and not a full time actress BUT HER CAMEOS ARE EXCELLENT)
Is wish that they'd conduct interviews in his native Italian. His English is wobbly. He'd probably be so much more edifying to hear if he could just fly stream of consciouness, unencumber by trying to find the right word in his second language.
Yeah, it was a bit tough going for sure - in addition to the obvious communication issue Dario was unfortunately feeling a bit under the weather that day. Still, he was very gracious, and I'm sure his English is better than my Italian!
I love you Argento... I can't forget our first met, in Profondo Rosso store!

@sandrodream1 with all due respect, i find Italian cop movies cheesy. Comedy.....it's hard to say, humour doesn't translate as well across borders.
The Italian film industry is a mess now imo. the only Italian film i've liked recently is Gomorrah.
