  • dude, this is just a cheap copy of the macbook air

  • @Matfred2007 Cheap??? It's over $1k so I wouldn't say cheap at all!

  • Btw I was listening to mp3, music video ( Led Zep The Song Remains The Same concert - complete concert video), then finished my powerpoint presentation. I used Monster Dr Beats "STUDIO" High Definition noise cancelling headphones on this Vaio X signature. I never expirienced flying on a business with this much pleasure with 14 hours of juice.

  • At first I was opting for MAC AIR but it does not have enough battery from Detroit to Tokyo so mac is hands down useless at this point. Then came this Sony X series. Running on an Atom Intel, fires up 30 minutes upon reaching 26,000 ft, turned it off several times during food serving & restrm, then turned it off 30 minutes to landing at Narita, Japan all consumed 85% of battery. Who the hell would say no to that. HP ENVY series night be a good challerger, I cant think of anything else

  • Both the Vaio X and P are so Beautiful, they look so good together.

  • it dosent have a cd room !?

  • @1986capy Unless you're buying this as your one-and-only PC (which is stupid), You really don't need it, the only time I used the external DVD drive with my Vaio P is when I made a backup, all the software I need is downloaded.

People who take disks to use every day are living in the last decade, use USB flash or HDD for work saving and backup, enable sharing with your Desktop optical drive for use when you get home.

  • The light is not for the processor, it's for hd access. -.-

  • nice vid but worst intro ive seen XD

  • Sony should go further and make this thing thinner!!! Think, take out the mouse and keyboard make it a touch screen and put the screen over the whole thing. That would be the thinnest tablet in the world!!!

  • @bmw2go11 that would fail as everyone loves keyboards :D

  • eh, it would still be cool tho!!!!

  • @bmw2go11 Be great to rival the iPad, with windows 7, carbon fibre lightness and either black or champagne gold I'd buy it.

  • @G1NZOU now, if only someone with dough to waste can mak one...

    someone.... ^ ^

  • @bmw2go11 Don't look at me, I'm still saving up for another Vaio P (2GHz model).

Maybe I'll get the X instead though, not poacketable but oh so gorgeous.

  • @G1NZOU ;P you actually thought i would buy a 1.4k laptop and destroy it trying to break a record!? ...., ya..

the vaio p is a great portable, the x is just thin and has the same specs as the p with just a bigger price tag.. vaio p= small, portable.. vaio x= thin, mbair killer.

  • @bmw2go11 No I wouldn't expect you to, There was one guy on my engineering course that went through three laptops, THREE.

He basically fiddled, installed linux, reinstalled XP, cut air holes and eventually destroyed all of them.

The laptop I had before my Vaio was an old Viglen I got for £40 I took care of it and it still works.

  • @bmw2go11 He'd do it, make a botch job of it but he'd do it.

Luckily I don't think he'll ever have enough money to buy Vaio stuff.

  • @G1NZOU i have 4 vaio laptops, a 05' desktop (vgc-rb40) and several all-on-ones laying around because of faulty motherboards.. i would take the risk and butcher my x black,... i love it too much ;)

  • @bmw2go11 Ha ha, neither would I.

Maybe I should ask Sony to do one.

Probably wouldn't listen too me, although you never know.

  • If you love the seamlessness of Sony imagine what you would say about a MAC, no HATE.

  • @redz220 OSx86 my friend ;) breaks the barrier of mac and pc

    ultimate computer= vaio x gold + dual boot; win7 + OSx86

  • why does sony makes nice looking laptop thats way under specs and overly priced? Dell has a new thin laptop v13 that has way more options and cheaper.

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM because sony is WAY more reliable than dell

  • This laptop is drop-dead gorgeous. While it is underpowered with a 2 GHz Atom and 2 GB DDR RAM @ 533 MHz and expensive, its design totally blows away the MacBook Air.

  • @ikilluish Won't break your back either, you'd barely feel the weight of it in your bag.

  • lol i love it when he opens the vaoi x and the music in the background changes to a song i think is off shrek. kind of like a magic sound for a magic laptop.

  • Haha, I just noticed that too. It's funny to shoot video inside the SonyStyle store, there is so much ambient noise from people and devices! We try and turn it all down but there is always something making noise. lol

  • This computer is amazing in terms of how thin it is. However, what Sony put inside of it doesn't make sense in terms of the price. Why on earth would I spend 1400+ on this, or even the Vaio P which goes up to around two grand, for an intel atom platform? I'm not a mac fan by any means, but considering the mac air has core 2 duo, there's no reason Vaio X doesn't for the price they are charging.

  • @nr98001 Ah, but mmy Vaio P can fit inside my jacket or the back pocket of my jeans (I don't normally put it in my jeans for theft and breakage worries), forget manila envelopes.

The whole point is the weight, so light.

Also, my P series has pretty decent quality stereo speakers wheras the MBA has only a Mono speaker under the keyboard.

I do like the Macbook Air, the styling of the P and X appeal to me more though.

  • would of like to have seen some video playback on the device. Some people (apple fan boys) have been griping that it would play video choppy... I personally wouldnt care that much considering i would only use this for trips when i have to pack lite or just to have in the house when i want to peruse the net. I have other computers that i use for more demanding stuff like music and video production and gaming. Love the colors though, very luxurious in a sense.

  • Video playback was a little choppy with YouTube, but we were at the mercy of a wireless connection that wasn't that great. I've also heard that Flash 10.1 has improved flash video playback considerably on netbooks like these.

  • Exaclty, Sony produces laptops primarily for japanese consumption and not for american culture And you adopt their technology because you have no better option Conclusion: don't complain about the tactile mouse pad size

  • I'm not necessarily complaining, just pointing it out to someone who is considering purchasing the VAIO X. It may not be the most comfortable experience, and I would honestly recommend a wireless/bluetooth mouse.

  • Dude I was perfectly fine with my Sony VAIO P90's track point. I don't suppose this trackpad would be any worse...

  • "technology guy" holding a microphone so he can be heard...

  • At least it's a bluetooth microphone! That's pretty cool, right? I know its cheesy, I am working on production value. I feel each video is getting better and better.

  • The production quality of your videos is the best I've seen in terms of hardware review vids on youtube. I wouldn't worry too much about anyone complaining :)

  • Thank you for the kind words, it keeps me motivated.

  • The Vaio X certainly is a beautiful machine. However there are major compromises in it's performance to get the machine so thin and light. In that it's got an Intel Atom single core 'Silverthorne' Z550 CPU and Intel GMA500 graphics.

These components where originally designed for netbooks, UMPCs, and MIDs. So the Vaio X will have the performance of a netbook or UMPC, and NOT a regular laptop. Which means it's OK web surfing and basic office tasks, but not gaming or video editing.

  • I agree, and I get confused as to why people are begging for higher performance. They obviously don't understand that would catapult the price to the moon and bring battery life down even further.

  • I think the problem will be, some people will expect too much of this machine. They'll try and do some regular laptop type things with it and find that they can't.

BTW there is an ongoing problem with the GMA500 graphics and Flash video. Which Intel admits with it's current GMA500 drivers.

    Quote:-

"Tearing and frame drops when playing video with YouTube

Tearing and frame drops when playing video with Hulu"

For this reason alone, I can see some disappointed customers and returned Vaio Xs.

  • Wow, very hot and sexy..and the laptop is nice too. J/K ;) I really want to buy one of these right now but i'm worried they'll come out with a new version with a better processor a few months after I buy it. :(

  • I dont see a refresh happening for at least 6-12 months.

  • Fan exhaust 'simply outstanding'!!! Man you gotta get out more

  • I said "outstanding" and "stunning" at least five thousand times in this video.

I get out often, but I thought it was impressive there is only one exhaust area coming out the side of the laptop.

  • looks Nice, But probly to small

  • It's most certainly the smallest laptop I've ever used. I would have a hard time owning one because I'm a bit clumsy with my electronics. However, this is a very durable notebook. I have seen video footage of someone standing on a VAIO X with no issues afterwards.
