  • how assuming he is and he could not take a HINT!

  • He is a wonderful actor - amazing performance !! One of the best scenes is when he tries to dance with Elizabeth in those ridiculous long black stockings...... ! LOL !

  • What a sleeze-bag >:(

  • He's about ten years older than the character is described, but he's so perfect, and well within a possible appropriate age for the character that it doesn't matter. Been a fan of David Bamber since seeing him in the totally forgotten sitcom 'Chalk', which the BBC attempted to hide when they showed it the first time. I'm glad he's still successful as he's clearly brilliant.

  • My God! Mr Collins is so hot!!

  • @TheFockerizer What planet do you come from again??? O.O

  • @PurpleSpiderWitch i don't know.... I thought it was earth but I may be wrong in that nature

  • truly awesome, this guy should have won some kind of award for this performance.

  • What PERFECT delivery of Collins' unbelievable pomposity!

  • collins is so stubborn !!! :))))

  • Collins probably had no thought of getting married until Lady Catherine recommended it!

  • Capitol! Capitol!

  • That is some of the finest acting ever.

  • XD LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!! Guys, NEVER propose like this to your future wife...EVER!!!

  • I just watched the Mr. Darcy proposal and when I watch this one I have to turn down the volume!

"Mr. Collins. You forget that I have made no answer and let me do so now. I thank you for your compliments. I am very sensible of the honor of your proposals. But it is impossible to accept them".

No she doesn't look like she's smirking or about to burst out laughing. She just looks anxious, tired, and nice. I love her. She is completely right about Mr. Collins.

  • Nobody else seems to have noticed this, but even here, on youtube, with dubious quality, I'm still annoyed by Elizabeth. In this particular adaption (the 1995 version?) she seems to be constantly holding back a smile, like a giggling schoolgirl... It is so annoying! Even in serious or sombre scenes, the corners of her lips constantly twitch upwards and she looks like she is stopping herself from grinning...

  • @Arachnidius I know EXACTLY what you mean. She always looks like she's smirking or about to burst out laughing. It's so freaking annoying! I was the only one in my English class who thought that - just like I was the only one who thinks that Darcy is actually a jerk.

  • If you consider the social and economic structures at that time (which have not changed as much as everyone likes to think--which is why this story is so relevant) then you might understand the layers under Elizabeth's so-called smirks and defiant personality.

  • @Arachnidius Well, in this scene it's appropriate at any rate- it actually says in the book that when Mr Collins talks about being "run away with his feelings" she had meant to use the pause to stop him but didn't manage to because she was too busy controlling her desire to laugh ;)

  • Watching this in my english lesson other day!! fuck loada shit and im never ever gonna write another essay about it again!! i much prefer bride and prejudice tbh!!

  • "you cannot be serious in your rejection" and "you are uniformly charming" LOL...

  • What a great actor David Bamber is. I haven´t seen a better Mr. Collins than his. This guy was Jane Austen´s Mr. Collins in flesh and bone. Cloying, creepy, cheesy, wet, dark and simply ridiculous. Genious actor.

  • Great stuff. What a brillant adaptation.

  • He is greasy.

  • you gotta feel sorry for mr. collins at the end. He just can't handle being told no. He thought he was going to get lizzy and ended up with nothing. It's a huge setback for a man who can't take a hint such as him.

  • I love Lizzy in this. She's looking at him as if to say, "you have got to be kidding me." :)

  • He is such a prat

  • David Bamber is awesome here!!! What a fantastic Mr Collins he made. The very spirit of the character. Great job.

  • haha! I love it when she rejects him and he's like "You're just playing hard-to-get now, aren't cha?" and she's like ????????

  • I Like and I Love Mr. Collins !!

  • lol wtf

  • Collins isn't really an idiot he is just very vain. Notice when he's proposing to Elizabeth all he does is talk about himself and Lady Catherine. He just assumes Elizabeth will say yes right away. Now guys, we can learn from this experience. 1. Don't bring up other girls in your proposals. 2. Don't talk about yourself. :D Haha.

  • haha thank you soo much for uploading this! i have to write an essay on the movie, specifically about collins and this helped tremendously with refreshing my memory about his character =] cant thank you enough!!

  • hey i have to write a rhetorical essay about this scene too wats the odds

  • me too!

  • OK, collins ain't romantic. But underneath...what so wrong with him? Sure, he's obnoxious....but he's not womanizer. And he definitely isn't a pig. He is just honest, displaying all his vanity and silliness---which everybody has..... its just easier to see with Mr. Collins because of his low IQ.

It is really funny. But it is DEFINITELY not disgusting.

  • Precisely! Maybe everyone should be a little less proud and prejudice? Hmmmm?

  • god,he's scary.

  • wow! ::bARFS:: Collins is such a pig!

  • Dear mister Collins such an idiot

  • STOP TALKING MAN!

  • omg! he sounds like the mister collins in the 2005 version!! like his voice i mean. its kinda funny!

  • Refuses Mr Collins then Darcy the first time. Are there no limits to her arrogance and shallowness! In 1813 she wouldnt have lasted a heartbeat with that attitude.

  • I smell a caveman!

  • 5 stars! They are great!

  • Man we had to watch the new version of this for my english course.

The actors in this version are way better! Not quite so fake

  • this mr.collins reminds me of scabbers (pettigrew) from harry potter...they dont look alike but they're both rat-like

  • this mr.collins reminds me of scabbers (pettigrew) from harry potter...they dont look alike but they're both rat-like

  • Agreed

  • SAME.

  • i bet if she could she would have cut and run for all her life is worth

  • She only has £1,000 a year; oh the fool! And how could she refuse the honour of meeting the honourable Lady De Burgh

  • His proposal creeped me out! Yikes!

  • oh mr collins and his wandering eyes...lol good old david bamber
