oh one more thing you little Kobe Haters. Eddie jones hated on kobe and was the most jealous of them ALL. Everytime Kobe had a good game, or dunked the ball or did anything great as he does, You would see a shot of Van Excel and EJ huddled in the corner with their mouths squirming like they tastes a limon. Oh yeah Head coach Del Harris=GONE. Now why in the blue hell would you think your pathetic 95'-97 team was any good??? Kobes 98-2011 team produced 5 NBA CHAMPIONSHIPS!
@willjk3025 stop spreading false rumors about topics you know nothing about. kobe has said many times eddie jones was his mentor when he came into the league. they were even friends before kobe's rookie season. eddie was like a big brother to kobe.
Look man Admit. your just a Kobe bryant hater ok. Little 17 yrs old kobe came into the league and stole Eddie Jones spotlight. LOL. See what all of you fools dont see is that kobe was a star before he even stepped onto the hardwood, before the NBA and had more talent than EJ. Yeah EJ showed some signs of greatness but he wasnt a KOBE by far. LOL. After Shaq joined the team in 97' and kobe joined shortly after the was built around those 2 superstars. LOL. Vlade=gone/Van Excel=gone/ and EJ=gone...
Ahh the good ol days when it was actually FUN watching the Lakers. My fav Laker team of all time is the 94-95 team. And then they become methodical, hollywood and boring. zzzzzzzz
i remember when this game was aired live - you had to be a eddie jones fan after that sh%t - you would think he was playing for the 76ers from the crowd reaction - i aint never seen no sh%t like that - jordan was only player i seen get more love as a visitor then a home team would
If there's a player who exemplifies the exuberance and excitement of that great '94-'95 team, it's EJ. Van Exel was the heart and soul but Eddie took your breath away. People also forget what a great defensive player EJ was. He'd pick your pocket without a second thought.
I still say, the worst trade the Lakers ever made, was trading Eddie Jones and Elden Campbell for Glenn Rice. I agree the Lakers could have won 5 straight titles and have a Bulls like dynasty if they never made that trade.
@rebelranger you r right the only thing people seem to remember is that he couldn't make a jump shot or be a spot up shooter to be exact. that was not his game as you can see from video. the first footage was the real lake show (no divas) here in the first part of the video from philly game. all that team needed was a new coach. dell harris couldn't or lead that team.
It's definitely one of the worst trades of all time considering how the Lakers ended up using Rice. Also he was an atrocious defensive player where as Eddie Jones was one of the best defensive players at sg...you might as well just have Kobe and Jones at sg/sf then Rice...even if he was bigger he didn't do anything defensively nor did he rebound lol.
@rebelranger Kobe wouldn't be who he is today if he had to play with Exel and Jones dumbass. They wanted to develop Kobe and they did! Kobe has won 5 titles and he didn't need either of them.
Kobe looks like eddie jones on some of his dunks. I think the reason they traded eddie was because him and Kobe were like the same type of player, but Kobe was a bit younger and had more potential
Haha. This is an old video of mine when I had zero skills. Judging by 143 K views, I think I might upgrade this one and add a couple more clips. The Philly gm was the night after Van Exel beat the Celtics in Boston at the buzzer. Loved that season.
I seriously miss Chick Hearns, he made listening to bkball more fun than watching on tv. "Mother call your daughter in!" "Doors closed, lights out, the eggs are cooling and the butter is getting hard!" The guys at ESPN are a bunch of TOOLS.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong (this was a long time ago) but didn't Eddie attempt a 3rd dunk on Bradley who proceeded to hit him with a vicious clothesline?
#VIDEOPOSTERID# dude, what else is there to say?. People who have fun playing basketball need to all know how to dunk, I only not long ago completed the exercise program at 50inch vertical[dot]com - and now I can dunk easily (Guess what, I'm only 5 7!)
xmykro I'm 5 8 and I can do reverse 180 dunks. Truthfully, anyone can do it, just do the right workouts with the right nutrition. I recommend the training program at 50 inch vertical (dot) com but any workout could be followed if you know they work
Eddie Jones I truely believe is South Florida's finest basketball player. It's a damn crying foul shame that the Heat traded him the yr before they won the Chip. Thanks to Fat Shaq.
@D332Fr3sh when they ditched/dealt Nick @ Nite and EJ... I was pissed. That's when I spotted being a Lakers fan... both men deserved to win rings wearing the Purple and Gold. Its cool that EJ got one in Miami, but shitty that Van Exel never got a ring.
@D332Fr3sh Kobe wouldn't be who he is today if he had to play with Exel and Jones dumbass. They wanted to develop Kobe and they did! Kobe has won 5 titles and he didn't need either of them.
LOL i agree who didnt dunk on bradley?, but eddie had talent the lakers shouldnt had trade him, we all know kobe is the shit but he would've made a great backup for him.
sometime i wish eddie and kobe could have stayed on the team together they played one year and he was trader but when eddie left i was hurt he was and to this day my favorite laker he was so dope and its sad he didnt get a ring with the lakers .....fucking kobe lol
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Actually. it was Shaq that requested Jones and Exel to be traded. He was complaining that they had too many talented gaurd who wanted to score and didn't give the ball to him enough. So Glen Rice was a good decision. He was 3rd leading scorer behind Kobe and Shaq, and your right, he did help us, ALOT. Better than ball hog Eddie Jones.
My god. This team made me cry and it made me cheer so hard. To me, they were the little engine that could.
Elden with his small hands, you'd open the window just a bit and Vlade would fall to the ground, Nick the quick doing his thing at the 3, Ceballos not faking the funk on his hocus pocus dunks, Tony Smith the defensive specialist, Sam Bowie what a block, Eddie the Gazelle, Dull Del tellin em what to do, and Chick n' Stu making every game feel so epic.

no he got traded to memphis before their championship season for jason williams and james posey. he then re-signed with the heat after the championship season, so he missed out on the ring
he played on lots of good teams.....just not championship ones....i mean if he stayed around wif the lakers he wud have been part of that party...and sum of his teams have been shit...he is awesome but he did have his chances
Eddie Jones was picked 10th in the class that included Jason Kidd, Grant Hill, Juwan Howard, Donyell Marshall, Jalen Rose and many others. Very underrated players, but was forgotten after he left the Lakers.
ThePHENOM987 is right. Loved the team with Eldin, Cedric, Eddie, and Nick. Then later with Rob, Rick, Shaq and KB08. Too bad Phil didn't come 2 seasons earlier. That could have been a well coached squad.
Of all the original members of the "Lake Show" team of the mid-late 90s, Eddie Jones was the ONLY one I didn't want to see dealt in wake of them retooling the squad with Shaq and Kobe. Sure Glen Rice did an okay job since management felt they needed a pure shooter for a 3rd scoring option, but Eddie could do that AND SOOOOOOOOO MUCH MORE!!! I truly think he wasn't treated with that much respect IMHO. Heck, just about every Laker on the team hated that move at the time as well...
people think eddie was the reason LA didn't win it all, but that's ridiculous
if you want reasons why LA couldn't win it's because Del Harris was an awful coach, Kobe should have been playing small forward alongside Eddie for a long time.
Also, the Lakers won after the NBA talent pool dropped considerably. The Utah Jazz, who eliminated LA two years, had aged while the Houston Rockets, who eliminated LA another year, also aged and lost players.
eddie's 5th all time in 3 pointers, and will end up 4th b4 he retires so not that inconsistent. but his defense and attitude would have helped more than his offense.
i still have eddie jones jersey when he was number 6, he certainly was one of the best dunkers back then, for some reason he lost all of his flair as soon as he moved to charlotte. still one of my favourite players ever, it was a sad day when he left LA. im a lakers fan living in perth Western Australia
somewhat - the lakers couldnt afford to sign kobe AND eddie, so they had to make a decision. even though kobe wasn't very good when eddie left, it was the right decision because look how kobe turned out. if they somehow signed both they would have won 6 championships at the least. i remember watching a game in 1998 and doug collins says 'if the lakers trade jones, they will probably win 3 titles, but no more. if they keep eddie, they will be a dynasty.'. he was 100% right.
as many times people have attempted and successfully dunked on shawn bradley, i have yet to see another person take off one step from the free throw line in game and dunk on someone. i loved eddie since he was a rookie on the lakers. "Can it be that it was all so simple then?"
i guess this even further backs up my point that the NBA today is not what it use to be. you dont see this kind of shit anymore. and check out those bad ass uniforms. so FUCK NEW SCHOOL. i know this isnt old school either but at least 90s NBA is better then current NBA.
I miss showtime

So true. I think EJ and KB could have been a great one two punch. Only problem is that EJ wasn't a consistent shooter...
Gfresh1620 3 years ago
eddie's 5th all time in 3 pointers, and will end up 4th b4 he retires so not that inconsistent. but his defense and attitude would have helped more than his offense.

i still have eddie jones jersey when he was number 6, he certainly was one of the best dunkers back then, for some reason he lost all of his flair as soon as he moved to charlotte. still one of my favourite players ever, it was a sad day when he left LA. im a lakers fan living in perth Western Australia

somewhat - the lakers couldnt afford to sign kobe AND eddie, so they had to make a decision. even though kobe wasn't very good when eddie left, it was the right decision because look how kobe turned out. if they somehow signed both they would have won 6 championships at the least. i remember watching a game in 1998 and doug collins says 'if the lakers trade jones, they will probably win 3 titles, but no more. if they keep eddie, they will be a dynasty.'. he was 100% right.

The Lakers won 3 rings after that trade, so as a Laker fan I can live with it.

Ever since Chick Hearn departed from this place, the Lakers fell apart.
redhatlinux06 4 years ago
as many times people have attempted and successfully dunked on shawn bradley, i have yet to see another person take off one step from the free throw line in game and dunk on someone. i loved eddie since he was a rookie on the lakers. "Can it be that it was all so simple then?"

Eddie Jones used to be my favorite Laker. My friends used to call me eddie when I played streeet ball

The last part of this video is exactly why Chick Hearn was the greatest commentary in NBA history.

He mispronounced bowing, you little fag. Guy was 80+ yrs old.
chriso728 4 years ago
Would be understandable even for a 40 year old calling a game as fast and as detailed as Chick did. He had Sam Bowie on the head.
Jordan, the "little fag" assessment is an accurate one. Die.

i guess this even further backs up my point that the NBA today is not what it use to be. you dont see this kind of shit anymore. and check out those bad ass uniforms. so FUCK NEW SCHOOL. i know this isnt old school either but at least 90s NBA is better then current NBA.
