  • Bro idk if you were like me when you first started driving stick, but damn, i tried practicing today for the first time with my bmw 328i and stalled so many times, cars behind me were passing me and driving with my dad wasnt the most pleasnt thing, i just want to get the hang of it but seems impossible :/

  • @acmmisfit Haha, I know how you feel. Today was the first day I drove on busy streets with my Z and it was kind of nerve racking!!! It took me like 5 seconds after the light turned green to get the car rolling, and downshifting was a little rough. My left leg was shaking uncontrollably, but thankfully nobody honked!!!

  • Thanks bro

  • I'm getting the '12 gti next week, my first manual :) im wondering through.. how do you typically brake? press clutch down then brake or do you shift into neutral (without clutch) and then brake? and thanks for the videos :)

  • @rcflite What's best is to brake like you would in an automatic car and clutch in when you're about to stall. That way if you need to keep moving you can downshift real quick and be on your way. I'm lazy so I put it in neutral right as I begin braking for a stop sign or red light.

  • @GTI6speed Just a quick one what about down shift for breaking is it like a bike how u can just down shift and slowly get the clutch out and it will slow the car down....

  • @rcflite The most efficient and safest way to brake is to stay in your current gear and brake as normal. Then, when you're almost at stalling point, shift into netrual as you come to a stop.

  • @LastXdeth What if I downshift to second all the time and brake to almost a stop and hit the clutch in to neutral or first?

  • @aznxdope Why would you want to do all the work? And plus, everytime you shift, you put wear on the clutch. Yes...the clutch is designed to wear, but you can minimize it by limiting its use. If you're going to completely stop, the most proper way (the way that the driving schools teach) is to stay in current gear and brake until you're almost about to stall, and then shift to netrual as you conitnue braking to a complete stop.

  • @rcflite put it on neutral and just coast till you reach the stop sign. Saves A LOT of gas

  • just need to know how to park in a small garage safetly...and to slow down turning....please be descriptive!

  • @miranda1984ify Pull into the garage in 1st gear really slowly just kind of balancing the clutch and gas. Once you're pulled up far enough and you're going slow enough, push the clutch in and the brake. Pull up the e-brake and keep the clutch in and kill the engine and you can release the clutch and brake. Be extra careful in a garage when you first start driving. One slip up can send you flying into a wall.

  • @miranda1984ify To slow down and turn, brake like you would in an AT car and when you're down to about 1k RPM, clutch in and downshift. Easy as that.

  • Pls make another video starting off a hill. I always seem to do a lil burn out. And when shifting gears upward i notice my rpm goes sky rocket high. How do I prevent that?

  • @Tymebandeet If it doesn't rain this weekend, I really will. I FINALLY got a new card reader so I can upload stuff. You're either doing one of two things; 1: Riding the clutch and giving way too much gas (which if in a car with enough torque you'll spin the tires rather easily) or 2: Letting out the clutch too much and giving too much gas. It's something that takes practice. Once you get your method down you're good.

  • @GTI6speed PLEASE a hill video!!! Hills piss me off!!! Why can't the world be flat?

  • @Tymebandeet when going up a hill from a full stop it is a good idea to use your parking break to prevent your car from rolling backwards. this way, you do not need to rush to step on the gas and release the clutch (possibly causing wheel spin if you have not perfected your manual driving skill). begin driving as normal, releasing the parking brake gradually as you pull forward. this is what they teach you in drivers ed.

  • @GTI6speed

Question, do you gas a little bit first and then let go off the cluth, do you let go off the cluth and then gas or do you gas and let off the cluth simultaneously?

  • @MaadAzzGang When you first learn, do gas first then clutch. Never clutch first then gas of you'll stall. Once you get good you do it simultaneously.

  • I remember when I first started only problen I had id slam om my brakes when I was slowin Down ...lmao..but nice footwork..? Lol

  • @andre53211 how are you gunna say that if your watching this video? And what does being fat have to do with driving stick? I used to be fat and it only effected my physical performance.

  • thx to u i drove in 3rd gear in my first driving lesson thx alot mayyyynnnnn.

  • @SuperEnzo1337 Sweet! Glad it helped.

  • your awesome! thanks for the vids.

  • @r0me0juliet Anytime. :D

  • @SuperThirstyFish I think we'd all appreciate if you got a higher IQ level. I'm sure your mom has told you you're smart but you won't get to rely on your mom forever...oh wait you might...so you can just keep you and your language to yourself. Please and thank you :) i personally don't think anyone wants to hear stuff like that. so stop trashing videos and people because you and i both know you can't even drive stick. because obviously you wouldn't be looking at videos like this. Kay, bye.

  • poor americans... brainless fatties can't use a manual gearbox..such a shame

  • @andre53211 fail troll

  • @andre53211 hahaha if that was directed towards me then you must be an idiot.

  • is your car a mustang?if yes which one?

  • @angytknightrider nope. if you see the video with the red GT, it's my friend's.

  • do you have to hold in the cluch while brakeing?

  • what car do you have??

  • QUOTE...

I'M TRYING TO DRIVE AND SHIFT AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!!! HAHAHA EPIC FAIL!!!

SHOULD'VE STRAPPED THAT CAMERA TO YOUR SMALL FUCKING COCK YOU HILL BILLY FAGGOT

  • @SuperThirstyfish LOL thanks for the view. :)

  • @SuperThirstyfish Oh and also, not only were you incorrect in the way that you "quoted" me, you also didn't quote what I said correctly. Again, thanks for the comment and view. :)

  • @SuperThirstyfish He said "drive and shift with the same HAND"

  • @SuperThirstyfish you should go die in a hole he's acutally helping ppl unlike your foul mouth! GO to chruch and then kiss your mama with that mouth! You fifthy disgusting peice of garbage

  • Godd tutorial even for us europeans who drive 95% of the time in manual :P

  • When you are shifting from 1st to 2nd i noticed that you don't let the clutch out very fast. Are you leaving it at that engaging point for just a little longer? Is that so you get a smoother shift and not have the car jerk back and forth? Less wear on the clutch? Why don't you just let the clutch out all the way when shifting? Please excuse my inexperience. ;)

  • @GunFreak271 Yeah 1st to 2nd you gotta let out a little slower to make it smooth.

  • 3. Going back to my first question about keeping my clutch at biting point with brake pedal fully depressed at a stop. I know you mentioned it's less work to just keep off the clutch and place it in N, but I'm still not 100% comfortable w/ that since I feel like I'll stall more likely this way from N to 1st then finding the biting point. I feel at ease when I've already have the biting point and then simply let the clutch go and I'm off, mentally feels easier for me. Good or bad for the clutch?

  • @emagdnim47 3. Bad. Don't do it. Either shift into first and hold the clutch ALL THE WAY IN or neutral with the clutch all the way out. If you constantly have the clutch partially engaged and in first gear, all your clutch will do is slip and wear faster. Like I said, just keep practicing. Soon you'll do the neutral thing without even thinking about it. Just be careful you don't go into reverse when you try to shift back to 1st.

  • 2. When upshifting I make sure to keep the rpm range at min 2k to about 3.5k, without my car jerking forward after each throw. The issue I get is from 3rd to 4th and the higher gears, shifting to say to 5th gear I always feel a slight tug after letting the clutch go. Is it because I'm letting the clutch out to slow or fast? I think I'm letting it out just as I do for the 1st-3rd gears, just weird the higher gears aren't as smooth for me. Maybe the rpm's should be above 3.5k or something?

  • I'm a noobie as well, picked up a 2010 A5 6 speed. I seem to be doing a lot better after watching your clips. A couple things still not working as well as I thought they would, here's my list.

    1. When uphill at a stop, I found it a lot easier to hold the brake pedal down, keep it in 1st and have my clutch out right at the biting point. Light goes green I simply roll the clutch out all the way and the car moves forward then I press the gas; is this in the long run going to wear out my clutch?

  • @emagdnim47 1. Yes you will wear your clutch out doing that. If you aren't completely comfortable starting without your e-brake on a hill, then use the e-brake method. Basically what I suggest is keep in neutral at a red light, that way you don't keep your clutch springs under tension. All you do is when you're fixing to move, set the e-brake, shift into first and let your foot off the brake and start like you normally would until you feel the car kinda about to stall and release the e-brake.

  • @emagdnim47 I would totally use your recommendation regarding the e-brake method. W/ these newer A5's the e-brake is this electronic switch that enable the e-brake fully. Haven't tried that yet, since I remember you saying only use partial e-brake when on a uphill start. You think in my case I should just try keeping the clutch all the way in till I really get the hang of that then maybe afterwards I can begin placing it in neutral instead then to gear method?

  • I'm trying to do a little research about stick shift cars, before I actually decide to buy one and start practicing, but I have a question that I haven't seen anyone really talked about. My apology in advance if it sounds stupid.

Say for example I'm driving a stick shift and I have to step on the brakes hard to prevent hitting the car in front of me. All I have to do is shift into neutral or do I have to downshift, in order to slam on the brakes.

  • @fatboy122691 Braking is the exact same in an automatic car. In a situation like that, all you have to do is well...brake...you don't have to do anything with the clutch or stick shift or anything although you will stall when you come to a stop. What you'll train yourself to do over time through normal driving is to wait until your RPM's are just above idle RPM to push in the clutch to keep from stalling. Once you enter a situation like that, it'll be a reflex.

  • what happens if you don't let go of the gas when you shift?

  • @yellafellaftw well you can powershift if you got the balls (and possible $) to try it but basically your engine will revv really high. My car can't take powershifting...the clutch can't take the high RPMs.

  • anther addition to the video, pretty sure it wasnt mentioned. But when ever you depress the clutch, always make sure its a quick motion. The quicker your foot goes down the less you'll wear things out. Not sure what else is the benefit of this. I was just taught to always do this.

  • @mtbphinx007 theoretically you can depress the clutch slowly as long as you aren't giving the car any gas..but even then you'll still get clutch slippage. but yeah push it in rather normal speed and then let it out slower. as long as you aren't in like 4-5k rpm range you won't wear your clutch abnormally fast..

  • @GTI6speed Alright man really would appreciate it .

    Take it easy .

  • @GTI6speed yeah , thanks for the reply it's in the shop now ... some oil plug was just not put back in the right way . LOL it's like THANK GOD .

Didn't really have any money to fix any major problems.

Got that and some fuses fixed along with an oil change all for 90$ .

So not to shabby , i think .

Keep up the Videos , i'm literally learning from them .

If not i'm going to keep stalling in traffic , yesterday id stalled 3 times at a redlight > FML -_- .. i was so stressed .

    Do a hill tutorial !

  • @kevery12 alright i'll do one Saturday. hill is easy once you get it down as well. whether you use the e-brake method or not (:

  • im a beginner on a audi and i find myself hovering my foot over the clutch until im outta 3rd even. any disadvantages to that?

  • @Gibson2471 put it on the dead pedal when you aren't shifting. it's just better technique. a lot of people will tell you to keep your foot off of the clutch completely when you aren't shifting..which in some way is true because if you aren't thinking, you can partially push the clutch in and over time you will wear out the spring. so yeah just put it on the dead pedal when you aren't planning on shifting anytime soon.

  • was that def leppard

  • I just bought my 1st car, an 04 Audi A4 and i'm wondering why does my "clutch or gears" "not catch" until i almost let out the clutch the whole way.

Does this mean my clutch is about done with or you think it's normal ?

1 more thing do manual Trans. car drip a little oil on a regular basis or do i have a Leak ?

  • @kevery12 take it to the shop and have them look at it. you should just have to let it out a little before you feel it catch. and as far as i know, any car that drips oil is not normal?

  • u sound like tony hawk :D

  • gay

  • Have u ever mistaked the brake for the gas pedal and by the way I need help I just got a new mustang 6speed for my 16 bday and dont no how to drive it I need help

  • @MrSergio344 When you first start driving you will. Go to an empty parking lot and just practice daily until you got it down enough to drive on a flat road.

  • show a footwork video with some aggressive shifting

  • @roverboy888 gimme a few days to figure out how to position the camera so i don't lose control lol

  • cool good supplement to the last video
