I also experienced that the intense meditation during a zen-sesshin benefitted the curing of a middle-ear infection which I got on the second day. It was cured on the fourth or fifth day, if I recall it correctly.
I also experienced during a self-experiment that your emotions DO have a biochemical impact on your body. So no matter if you're an idealist or a materialist, it's important to know that whatever we think and then feel will have consequences on ourselves. Right mental conduct.
@brucinda01 It can help though. Studies have shown that meditation has helped reduce stress levels (abnormal hormonal activity included), strengthen your immune system and provide psychological reinforcement. It helps you deal with the situation with a clearer view of how things are, allowing you to be at peace with whatever that is ailing you, even if it is a cancer.
I don't know if meditation alone can cure cancer but I think it definitely helps you deal with it and maybe act as a preemptive.
@pragzter I have done more research about meditation and illness and you are quite right, it really can help cure cancer, or at least help you cope with it and go towards curing it. Thankyou for your comment. :)
I love Ajahm Brahm. I need to take this opportunity to speak on behalf of non-humans. All sentient beings deserve to not be exploited. Please consider going vegan. We kill 56 billion animals (not including fish) every year for no other reason than their bodies 'taste good'. Non-human animals value their life as much as you or I and fight to hold onto it, please don't needlessly take it from them.
@cricket279 animals are not the same as us, one primary difference is they don't know they are going to die which is one of the worst curses we have as humans. On top of that we aren't meant to be vegans. It's an unhealthy diet that can lead to health problems without supplements.
I am a Sri Lankan and i used to listen to Ven. Ajan Brahms talks. These are amazing and always capable of making peace in the minds of so many people. You are so blessed for your compassion.... May you attain Nibbana very soon!!! :) Triple Gems blesses!!!
Indeed, the biggest problem with people, in my experience, is their inability to be still and quiet, which is likely a by-product of their inability to be comfortable in their own skin and inability to accept themselves.
Bible is written by 12 men and revised by several powerful men. Buddhist Tripitaka were improvise by 1250 monks of Buddha's own disciples. Bible can possibly be miss interpret. Jesus is real. Buddha and Jesus are probably saint. The reality is as empty as what's proven in Buddhism and Physics String Theory.

Lol when he says about disease. He keeps talking and feeding his cold XD. Anyways I guess being quiet can be nice. I couldn't stay quiet 24/7 though. I love to laugh and listen to music. I have my peace there also.
Totally agree. We need to understand ourselves before we can live in peace with ourselves. When we live in peace with ourselves, we also live in peace with everything else. Talking about people being cruel to animal......actually people are even more cruel to other people......all because we don't really learn about ourselves and how to live in peace.
you are just expressing your personal opinion. These talks reveal the truths of life, and it makes you sad only if you are not brave enough to accept that truth and practically apply these teachings into your own life. As for myself, I have to say truly, that these talks are changing my life a great deal for the better. I am so much happier, and at peace. Do please keep uploading these talks. They are changing my life....turning me into a much better human being. Sadu sadu sadu!!!

Ajahn Brahm's talks regularly make me sad. Dear viewers, please, look beyond his talks, and if you got energy, discover the problems of the world, and do some good for other beings, for the nature. We can find real spiritual development in putting our heart outside us, but if we are always concerned about our own condition, we will hardly find any peace. Peace lies not in us, but in our compassion for others.
And we already know the main cause of cancer: western, animal-based diet.
Baratgab, your comments are very unclear. What do you mean by getting sad listening to these talks? You don't say why and you imply it is because Ajahn's talks are not compassionate. I find Ajahn's talks to be very compassionate and very concerned about the problems of the world. What could be more compassionate in this noisy and cacophonous world than reminding people about the value of silence?

Thank you for your reply. :-) Due to the limit, it's hard to go into details. Basically, his talk is almost always deals with the trivial issues of people (anthropocentrism), while the world is *falling apart*. I'd call this "Buddhism as usual", like the "business as usual" attitude in politics. I know that Ajahn use this technique for reason, but there are other ways of teaching; ways that inspire people more directly to see, feel and act. If you're interested, google "Letter from Thầy".
You know you have a right to express your views and opinions. Ajahn Brahm is a really good teacher with a lot of experience and well trained by Luan Por Chah. He is a fine example of discipleship. We all have a tune to dance to and he is dancing to his.
He is a good teacher, I agree. He knows how to meet with people's expectations, but meeting with people's expectations in these days often means feeding anthropocentrism and self-centered attitudes: the main delusions of today's societies and minds. We should all strive to explain reality as completely as we can, and to do as much and as universal justice in the world as we can; not just among the humans, but among all sentient beings.
I'm confident that he'll realize this one day. Metta. :o)
You raised a very good point here. Ajahn Brahm always says open the door of your heart, no matter who you are and what you do. To me, thats the compassion. When one has the wisdom and the insight to embrace all matters, not just all sentient beings, but also ones own anxiety, hatred and fear, one would live in peace with all and one will serve all sentient beings naturally became compassion is our true nature.
Sorry for my carelessness. The last part should read.....one would live in peace with all and one will serve all sentient beings naturally because compassion is our true nature.
Yes, compassion is universal. But my concern is the Ajahn's aspiration. I feel that his aspiration is limited to people, while there are many other sentient beings. Yes, we can only share dhamma with people, but we can share it in a way that results in direct support for other beings. The one who truly unbiased aims the most good with speaking, even if it's not the audience's good. For example, watch Earthlings, and then tell me that dealing with trivial human matters is a fair thing to do. :-(
Of course I'm not saying that he is some good for nothing teacher. On the contrary, my very motive to raise this issue is the impression that he has great insight and compassion; this is why I don't understand how could be possible that he doesn't talk at all about these things. In the case of several other teachers I wouldn't even bother to write anything.
About Earthlings: you can find it's playlist in my YouTube-page. It really broke my heart.
In other videos Ajahn Brahm talks about reincarnation, so he does promote compassion toward animals. He never talks about exclusively people matters, he talks about emotional strifes which are intrinsic to all beings.
I think the most important thing I can say to you Baratgab is that these talks don't have to influence you. Buddhists speak only in suggestion. Only follow the path if it agrees with your own sense of conscience. There is no one answer, so I am happy for your different perception.
Thank you for your post. :o) But I think, without any hostility, you're defending a position with rationalization that you wouldn't like to defend at all if you had have saw what I saw. Are you familiar with the documentary that I suggested, Earthlings? If not, I really recommend it; it can change our whole ethical perspective and our priorities in life. (Of course a single documentary can't give us all full understanding, but I think it's the best source to recommend.)
