What is up with this train? No baggage car behind the engines, Amtrak California commuter car in with the regular coach cars, baggage car ends up being in the back with the express box cars. This is realy an odd lash up. BTW: What was that design on the baggage car?
The starlight that I did the photo shoot of that had the Amtrak California cars on the rear was the northbound Starlight train number 14 (Los Angeles to Seattle), it had left the Salinas station and was on its way to Seattle when I got the shot of it.
This is a REALLY rare sight to see that out West. The only reason it might have been out there is that Amtrak probably really doesn't care no more about which baggage car goes where. That baggage car was used way back in the early 90's when they promoted that train and so no they probably just don't care.
They also have a baggage car painted for the Vermonter, a route through Massachusetts and Vermont; also for the Downeaster, a route through Massachusetts, New England, and Maine. Those cars have, I think, no since been painted into the Phase IV paint scheme.
great catch! 5/5 &Fav!

The baggage, and both units should've been on the east coast.
MarkConductor775 3 years ago
Both units? Not just 82?
SF3751 3 years ago
The high-stripe thing is sort of a midwest/east coast deal.
MarkConductor775 3 years ago
Yup, I agree. You said both, and I guess it doesn't matter where 133 is. Even though she is Coast Starlight power as I type.

I have no clue with the baggage car paint, odd.
SF3751 4 years ago
Definatly an odd rare site. Once I shot vid of the northbound Coast Starlight just north of Salinas with two Amtrak California cars on the rear.
CoastStarlight11 4 years ago
Is that the one that goes, or leaves L.A.
SF3751 4 years ago
Coast Starlight runs between Los Angeles and Seattle.
CoastStarlight11 4 years ago
No...I know that I rode it. I chased it. which Starlight did you chase and was it the one that leaves L.A., or goes to L.A.

Don't know why they where going to Seattle. Odd.
SF3751 4 years ago
The cars could have been in Los Angeles for repairs and on their way to Oakland to be dropped off.
CoastStarlight11 4 years ago
Most likly, but those where on thr rear of the train? Where there in the consist.
SF3751 4 years ago
You can see the vid that I shot of the Amtrak California cars on the rear of the starlight if you search youtube for "amtrak 14 aromas".

Weird.
SF3751 4 years ago
yep, quite an odd site. First and only time I have seen that in person.
CoastStarlight11 4 years ago
ya, same here. The 2 vids of the Zephyr being pulled backwards here are my only vids of that happening.

The paint scheme on the baggage car was the Adirondack⌐.
trainsmaniac2009 4 years ago
Never heard of it.
SF3751 4 years ago
It is from the east coast. The Adirondack runs from New York City, through the Adirondack Mountains to Montreal, Canada.
trainsmaniac2009 4 years ago
Cool, never heard of it. So would you say this is a rare sight?

Well, with the rest of this train it just added on to the weirdness.
