that was serious overtake, people who say it was'nt that great either dont like alonso
or are big schumi fans that cant deal with the fact that he was blown out the water at 180 mph on the outside of the 130R..Watch carefully and you can see schumi trying push alonso to the outside then having to re-correct his steering before he screws the corner up.Alonso was having none of it.all done at 180 mph.thats what made it special in my opinion.great 2 watch at the time..we need more of this..
@illy1982 May i asked if you have watched Senna, Prost, Mansell racing? or have you seen schumacher racing in the early 90s. All these drivers are way better than Alonso...
@illy1982 Really? I do not want to debate too much about this. However, maybe u should go and research the type of gearboxes they use... and they (Senna, Mansell, Prost era) used a normal car steering wheel and they had no driver aids. In 2005, cars had power steering and has ABS and all these driver functions and the cars are way easuer ti drive...
2) MS' F2005 was on a wet setup in the dry, R25 was not
3) FA was 4 laps of fuel lighter than MS
4) When FA had a slipstream, and as MS went to the inside to defend, FA had the racing line so MS had to lift off or he wouldnt have made the corner at that angle
5) What is spectacular was that MS held him off for as long as he did (six laps)!
The overtake was more brave than good, it could have ended in a collision
What?! You mean the car behind was going faster than the car in front and was therefore able to overtake? I agree, that's atrocious. I only enjoy overtakes when the cars are exactly equally matched, the pass is completely safe, the defender is able to remain on the racing line undisturbed throughout, and the defender is passed on the first attempt. So far, I have not enjoyed any overtakes in the history of F1, but I have high hopes for the future.
@fateola When a car is that much superior then the high level of reverence for this overtake is not warranted, at least on grounds of ability. It was spectacular, not a demonstration of skill, just balls, which was the point of my original post. IF the cars were even as the scenario you describe then that is an awesome move. The overtake was "enjoyable" as you put it, but mainly because MS held him off for so long that FA resorted to that.
Well, I disagree. Schumacher did such a good job of defending that Alonso had to use a creative and brave manoeuvre. Good passes are often the result of a much faster aggressor needing to find a novel route past a resolute defender, e.g., Jones-Prost, 1981; Piquet-Senna, 1986; Hakkinen-Schumacher, 2000. To my mind, that doesn't lessen it at all; it's fantastic racecraft. I would even argue that the majority of spectacular overtakes have arisen from exactly those circumstances.
@fateola Cool, and its true. Yes I'm a shameless MS fan so was just putting the move into perspective because many people especially James fanny Allen were making out like wow he did that to the great Michael Schumacher, this is majestic, Godly, etc. It was just bugging me at the time. I thought the move was very Montoya-esque, another guy I love.
@Kimisrcn haha, reallly? that's the funniest thing I "read" so far this year... tell me... what do you know? Tell me, which "Alonso over Schumacher" overtake manouver, was the best?
@Kimisrcn It doesn't matter if the Michelins were better than the Bridgestones in wet conditions (in this race), he could've passed schumacher under braking or acceleration... he did it in the middle of the turn... it is still a better maneuver than the one on the 130 R...
@Kimisrcn The big difference was in Hungary, in China for example, there wasn't much of a difference... you seem to be the one who does not know anything... you're trying to say that the hungary one was not a good move... everybody know it was a good one but you :P.... besides, yo still haven't answer my first question... which is the best Alonso on Schumacher overtaking maneuver in your opinion?
Schumacher overtook Senna in the same way (exactly the same!) in France, 1993, but probably the overtaking of Schumacher was better, because Schumacher had a car similar than Senna´s.
Not like this, where Alonso has a much better car than Schumacher´s.
I don't really get why they get these useless rule changes to make overtaking easier, like KERS and moving rear wing. Bring back the old good fast cars and there is no need for things like that, and still there will be lots of overtaking.

@BrotherYounis no man you clearly can see that because alonso was steering in that schumacher felt pushed and schumacher steered in before the corner and he mad a slight corrections to it!
just look to the the moment when alonso steers in then you can see that schumacher felt pushed in and if he didn't make that correction he could crash on the kerb stones.
The overtake was more brave than good, it could have ended in a collision.
its actually alonso forcing schumacher to slow down as he knows if schumacher doesnt slow down they are gonna have an accident with raikkonen so schumacher had to slow down
The joke with this move is that when you look at the helecopter view, Alonso was virtually fully ahead by the corner. In other words, the corner was already his. I think 'best move of the last decade' is a joke.
The best overtake of the last decade, hands down, sheer balls to go around the outside of shuey through 130R, love him or loath him alonso is an awesome driver.
The move looked spectacular, but wasnt that good. MS was in a slower car, on a wet setup in the dry (so FA had the straight line speed), FA had the slipstream, and as MS went to the inside to defend, FA had the racing line, so MS had to lift off or he would never have made the corner at such an acute angle. What is spectacular was that MS held him off for as many laps as he did! The overtake was more brave than good, as it could well have ended in a collision.
If only Alonso wasn't in a superior package, if only 130R was the challenge it used to be and if only Schumacher hadn't lifted off because he knew it was pointless and dangerous to resist...might have been amazing.
@oz7mgs Its not really amazing pass . You cant go two wide into this bend obviously and Schumacher has to let off throttle to avoid a big wreck. I dont even like schumacher but this is the truth.
xpandia, that 2005 Ferrari was no where near the McLarens and Renaults, therefore 'kicked his ass' statements aren't fair. Even in this race, Ferrari used high downforce to compensate for those Bridgestone tires that were over a second off of Michelin.
@bourlivak88 are you joking? its still extremely dangerous to do such a move. If they collided, they would have been severely hurt, its obvious. Its one of the hardest and riskiest moves you can do.
@nixxxon18 did you see Sutil´s accident there this year? his engine blew up and he spun in 130 R..the car didn´t even leave the track..AND there is some run off area with asphalt and the gravel trap..you make an elephant out of a mosqito..Mark Webber´s impact this year in Valencia was also high speed..and he stepped out unhurt as usual.. there were many high speed crashes in the last ten years and the driver was NEVER seriously hurt, you know?? as I said, this is not the 70s.
@bourlivak88 Yes the corner was modified, but you are having a laugh if you think that pass is nothing special, James Allen commentating on ITV could not belive it.
Like it or not Alonso has balls of steel to do a move like that.
@2333321983 I think the sport of formula 1 shouldnt exist anymore if this was the best it had to offer for the past ten years, dont you think? He used the slipstream than made his move...nothing special to me.
@ston3s The speed difference genius, going into that corner at that speed on the outside of someone requires Mansell like balls. It's either this or Mika on Shumacher during Spa 2000. I would like to see you do better...
@2333321983 alright, thanks for replying without insulting me too much! Montoya on schumi around the outside at old bus stop is more impressive to me. Even Villeneuve around the outside of Schumi at estoril (parabolica) was more impressive. watch?v=Mp37Rl2J_fg watch?v=giZu7-A2yS0 these could be called moves of a decade...
@ston3s Both your examples are good overtakes. The Villeneuve one is 1996 though so that doesnt count. 2000 to 2010 was the decade i was talking about. The best overtakes ever were probably done by Mansell in my opinion.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Nothing special compared to other overtakes I've seen in Formula 1. You can easily notice Schumacher holds back because Alonso would've just driven into him if he had let his car stick.
@SteveSpicerPortsmuth Ferrari will bounce back, its a huge team with the biggest resources, they will get it right , if not this year then next year..
Renault that year was updated every race bcoz they were fighting Mclaren. So that race Renault was almost 1s faster than Ferrari, only slower to Mclaren.
I dont think all f1 cars have the same hp output. even if they did they dont weigh the same, some cars have difference of nearly 40 kilos, you know stuff like fuel loads and in f1 thats a huge amount, and slipstreaming isn't the only way to overtake in f1, you can also brake later than the other guy into the turn which means you will be slow through that particular turn and he will attempt a switch back but the guy in front can block him once and if done correctly, Voila! you've gained a place.
i never said the brake later thing happend in this video, why i said that is because you said slipstreaming is the only way to overtake in f1 and what if the other driver has a better car (more downforce) he will make up time in the turns and catch up to you ever thought of that and also you said to brake later the driver has got to use the slipstream of the car in front, yeah he will catch up but the braking later thing is a different overtaking process than slipstreaming.
nevertheless, this overtaking is more a matter of a better car. Alonso overtakes in the straight because of the engine, and then maintains the line as if Schumacher had not been there. Also, in that bend they don´t brake at all, he does not have to care that and he was ahead yet before the curve...
Nevertheless Alonso is an incredible pilot, he will be more than a 4 world champion!!
It's not a matter of just downforce. 2005 was a terrible year for Ferrari in general. The only time MS won that season was when he was racing against just the Minardis and Jordans
I am not going to say which driver is the best, which car were better. But simply Alonso did show us how brave he did at this moment.

@bourlivak88 yes so what, they were going at 300 km/h and this is still very dangerous no matter how safe is the car.
nixxxon18 1 year ago
@nixxxon18 did you see Sutil´s accident there this year? his engine blew up and he spun in 130 R..the car didn´t even leave the track..AND there is some run off area with asphalt and the gravel trap..you make an elephant out of a mosqito..Mark Webber´s impact this year in Valencia was also high speed..and he stepped out unhurt as usual.. there were many high speed crashes in the last ten years and the driver was NEVER seriously hurt, you know?? as I said, this is not the 70s.
bourlivak88 1 year ago
@bourlivak88 Yes the corner was modified, but you are having a laugh if you think that pass is nothing special, James Allen commentating on ITV could not belive it.
Like it or not Alonso has balls of steel to do a move like that.

Kimi in the box had the best place for this movie.
Oh, wait a second. He was also part of the race...? :D

@2333321983
take a loot at Hakkinen's overtaking of Schumacher in Spa 2000. Everybody remembers that one.
Btw, in this very same race Raikkonen won from 17'th on the grid overtaking Fisichella in the very last lap to win.
SteveSpicerPortsmuth 1 year ago
@SteveSpicerPortsmuth
ye the one in 2000 is my 2nd favourite. Kimi's move was more important but less spectacular.
2333321983 1 year ago
@2333321983 I think the sport of formula 1 shouldnt exist anymore if this was the best it had to offer for the past ten years, dont you think? He used the slipstream than made his move...nothing special to me.
ston3s 6 months ago
@ston3s The speed difference genius, going into that corner at that speed on the outside of someone requires Mansell like balls. It's either this or Mika on Shumacher during Spa 2000. I would like to see you do better...
2333321983 6 months ago
@2333321983 alright, thanks for replying without insulting me too much! Montoya on schumi around the outside at old bus stop is more impressive to me. Even Villeneuve around the outside of Schumi at estoril (parabolica) was more impressive. watch?v=Mp37Rl2J_fg watch?v=giZu7-A2yS0 these could be called moves of a decade...
ston3s 6 months ago
@ston3s Both your examples are good overtakes. The Villeneuve one is 1996 though so that doesnt count. 2000 to 2010 was the decade i was talking about. The best overtakes ever were probably done by Mansell in my opinion.

martin33011489 1 year ago

Nothing special compared to other overtakes I've seen in Formula 1. You can easily notice Schumacher holds back because Alonso would've just driven into him if he had let his car stick.

Now everyone watching the Turkey GP in 2010 wonders why he is in Ferrari now when he could be in a Red Bull, McLaren or stay in Renault.

Renault that year was updated every race bcoz they were fighting Mclaren. So that race Renault was almost 1s faster than Ferrari, only slower to Mclaren.
NinC13 2 years ago
alonso was slipstreaming
that helped him
alfooo14 2 years ago
obviously!!!
thats how you overtake in f1
xxxsde 2 years ago
erm, some people say it was because the renault was faster in the straights and * add my previous sentence here and it makes sence*
alfooo14 2 years ago
well i beg to differ with you...
most engines in f1 are the same when it comes to the straight..
only way you can overtake in f1 is by slipstreaming which reduces the drag temporarily to make the car go faster!!!!
xxxsde 2 years ago
I dont think all f1 cars have the same hp output. even if they did they dont weigh the same, some cars have difference of nearly 40 kilos, you know stuff like fuel loads and in f1 thats a huge amount, and slipstreaming isn't the only way to overtake in f1, you can also brake later than the other guy into the turn which means you will be slow through that particular turn and he will attempt a switch back but the guy in front can block him once and if done correctly, Voila! you've gained a place.
alfooo14 2 years ago
to get close for braking later. the driver has got to use the slipstream of the car in front...
you are now making up shit just to prove you were right...
xxxsde 2 years ago
i never said the brake later thing happend in this video, why i said that is because you said slipstreaming is the only way to overtake in f1 and what if the other driver has a better car (more downforce) he will make up time in the turns and catch up to you ever thought of that and also you said to brake later the driver has got to use the slipstream of the car in front, yeah he will catch up but the braking later thing is a different overtaking process than slipstreaming.
alfooo14 2 years ago
i am talking about modern f1 not the racing 50 yrs back...slipstream is the essential bit in overtaking in f1.
xxxsde 2 years ago
Alonso is superb!!!
nevertheless, this overtaking is more a matter of a better car.

The only time MS won that season was when he was racing against just the Minardis and Jordans

arcticGO 2 years ago
viva alonso
Pablito8Aimar 2 years ago 2
arcticGO 2 years ago
Pablito8Aimar 2 years ago
arcticGO 2 years ago
e dixo k no era parcial eh lee bien.

kleinkoe19 4 years ago
a kurva anyád geci kisfia a pöcsmadár. szerintem az ő nevét sokkal jobban tudják mint a te buzi kis nevedet. érdekes 2006-ban sumakernek is jó kocsija volt mégse tudta legyőzni a nagy bajnokat. pancser
