You see the problem with american's is that they give the titles J-rock, J-pop, J-rap, but don't bother to give them any sub groups. Source: I'm an american who's studied japanese modern culture and language for the past year

Not to give the wrong impression though I started learning about japanese modern culture so I know that evertying there is more modern and less formal, like seriously it's hella less formal. Then I started learning how to read and write, no I'm just expanding my vocabulary. Also The pillows did spend a year or two in america so it does sound western

Is it just me or did they lose some of the 'harshness' and 'indie' in their music?

I mean, hell - I didn't listen to them all that much. FLCL soundtrack 3 years ago and that was that. Bumped onto them just now and it somehow feels different; milder and more generic. FLCL OST on the other hand sounds more like delicious glam rock. But maybe it's just me?

This is what I love so much about The Pillows. They're one of the few bands in where their music doesn't regress througout time, but instead, just get's better and better. That's saying a lot since they were amazing to begin with. I know most people can think of bands even if they love them, that will agree their music get's crappier with each album. Also, I can listen to The Pillows when I'm a little down and always get lifted by it :D They're so fucking good!!
