@thesnape99 did the builder recover it? and what was that pre-ignition puff of smoke about ? i've seen thousands of launches over the years and don't ever remember seeing one light quite like that LOL beautiful flight though :-)
Calculated what by time? That doesnt make any sense. A bullet will go 9000 feet in 3 seconds. A bird will do it in 10 minutes. And the rocket continues to coast after the motor burns out, in this case for a long time maybe as much as a minute.
@joe69rocket This one probably had about 2,000 to 4,000 lbs of thrust. Something in that range, a car in other words. Goes mach 3 or so for this kind of altitude. That is M16 bullet speed with a rocket that weighs probably more than 100 lbs.
Wow! Richard and crew, you have a lot to be proud of. As they say... 'she was fast, hard and true.' Curious to know what type of guidance and/or stabilization was employed. Thank You again for a great video.
hahaha you cant just go buy these rockets first you need to get certified and that is a lengthy proccess or if you just want to fly some ones that go about 1200ft i could help you with that
google for NAR, Tripoli, Estes, hobbylinc, model rocket, etc. There are thousands of web pages so you must not have tried very hard. Far more web pages than for RC planes (which is a great hobby also!)
In the USA, you don't need any certain license or certification to fly with a G impulse motor. They are hot little motors though and should be treated like a "high power" motor.
im not going to be able to make it to Aeronaut this year. But ill be at XPRS. if i can get my rocket built before then in between all the other work i have to do then ill get level 2 then.
I have no certification, I will used aerotech G series the biggest I can get about 6 of them. THe rocket is about 9 or 10 pounds. Three 6" tubes 3 or 4 feet high and the middle tube is also 6" about 9 or so feet high. All homemade. someone help me with any ideas, thanks
BE VERY CAREFUL!!!! Be at a safe distance Composite engines do not ignite suddenly. Expect difficulty timing the ignition of all six of your G's. Before launch, test the electrical continuity and placement of each igniter. Consider dual igniters. Also, be sure your airframe can stand the stress. I've seen a single F engine rip a rocket apart. Your rocket will break the sound barrier. Find some mentor who knows what they are doing and get certified. G IMPULSE ENGINES ARE NOT TOYS.
Other than the comments these guys gave, such as "freaking sweet" or "do it but be careful"...
I have to leave a more depressing one.
Do not fly more than two G motors at a time without certification, because it is illegal. If you do it on your own, you will get in trouble with the law most likely. If you go to a launch, they plain simple wont let you fly the rocket at all without level 1 certification.
Rocketry is great, get into it. But biggest rocket possible isnt a good first step.
This is not my first rocket. I've built 10 foot rockets before, the material i'm using is a bit thicker. i've clustered three g's before, went about 2,000 feet, that was a 10 foot plus rocket. i also made a nice sidewinder rocket with two g's.. a lot lighter, about 6 feet tall, it went out of the atmospher. had to get a search team to find it, I have vids of some launches, i'll put them on soon. I've been in rocketry for 15 or so years I'm not saying im a pro.. but I do know what i'm doing..
Awsome flight. straight up up up and up.. Perfect flight. I'm making a 9 and 1/2 foot rocket but I need some power to launch it.. Anyone have any ideas.? Thanks for the video..
They make a 10 foot rocket that will fly on a D motor. If you are not certified, you may want to start with rockets under 3 feet for a while until you get certified. If you are certified, I suggest a skidmark! If you dont know what that is, dont fly a 10 foot rocket.
OMG I have got to see that. What event is he going to launch it at? Course I've been avoiding Black Rock for years now, that might be the one to get me to show.
The motor was a Q6102 with a total impluse of 105,000 Newton Seconds. It was six fuel grains each one weighing 18 pounds. The rocket's max alt. was some where between 86,000 feet according to GPS and 76,000 feet according to the accelerometers. The rocket is 8" in diameter and 17 feet tall. Weighted in at 300 pounds on the pad.
What does the "Q-reaction" mean? just Q motor?

It most likely did hit 90k. This is at Tripoli's BALLS launch, they have a waiver to 100,000 feet and people constantly aim for it.
This was a minimum diameter rocket flying on a Q motor.
