I saw a video, were they presented the "Taller" album, and there they played and talked about Push the button, Ugly, Gotta be you and Follow me home. I guess if Mutya wouldn't have left the group, Gotta be you would've been the third single instead of Red dress (I also read that Mutya didn't like Red dress, don't know if it's true though).
@maritta2504 Island Records had pre-selected their singles. From past interviews, I've noticed Sugababes have had very little input in the FINAL decision on what songs are released as singles w/ Island. "Red Dress" was contracted as a single, so it had to be released, and "Follow Me Home" was already selected by Island as the albums closing single. Amelle recorded vocals for "Gotta Be You", so only assuming that "Gotta Be You" was up for possible single release. Oh well.
@maritta2504 During promotions of "Change" Keisha even said they didn't want "Denial" or "Change" to be released as singles, and when asked if they thought the singles would chart well, she replied "NO" and laughed - hahaha
Can you show me a link to this Interview with Keisha? I'm pretty sure that the label also decides, which singles they are going to release, but I don't think that the Babes didn't had to say anything about that at all. So if "Red Dress" was already selected, why did Amelle re-records "Gotta Be You"? She also re-recorded "Ace Reject", but they didn't put that on the album. Did you read their contracts back then or is this just an assumption? (I'm just curious, don't get me wrong!)
@maritta2504 OMG! i would have to DIG through my Sugababes favorite videos, haha. But it's one of those interviews were Heidi is absent, and it's ONLY Amelle and Keisha speaking, there/s two parts. Amelle was suppose to re-record all of Mutya's vocals for "Taller In More Ways" but didn't finish, there was too little of time. Assuming that "Gotta Be You" was a contender for a single, but it was decided against. And you'd need to ask Island why "Ace Reject" was not released w/ 3.0 on vocals
Well, you sound like someone with many information about the Sugababes, so I thought you could answer my questions ;-).
I know that Amelle was supposed to re-record all tracks. But to me, it's still strange, why she recorded Ace Reject and they didn't put that on the album.... :-D
@ipolson I know it was written for some artist named camille and their was just a few changes in the lyrics and maybe some instrumental changes but nothing major.
@asheshpatel9607: Thanks for the info !. Although probably not the original intention/meaning of the song, I think they must have thought it could apply to their situation regarding the press and rumours (which is why there is Mutya, Newsweek etc). As you say, they adapted it slightly. Good song.
THIS IS THE SUGABABES !!!!

This really should have been released from taller in more ways!!! wicked track and very sugababes! Prefer the mutya version over amelles
Sugababes used to be known for the urban rnb style music and an edgy street style look but now they like plastic pin ups :(
asheshpatel9607 1 year ago
@asheshpatel9607 The irony of you saying "very Sugababes" is the fact that the song is actually a cover.
Cazxiro 1 year ago
@Cazxiro tru but i mean that its was in sugababes stye as in their sound is rnb, pop-hiphop, with grittyness and edge

Ufff!
Heidi and Keisha would only think of clapping hands and making everybody shout.
