It's like in high school when the "dungeons and dragons" kids who never spoke in class suddenly got put into a group project together and had to perform a skit... And it was really awkward for everyone, but the content was kinda good. Like that
Although, to their credit the staff there was friendly to me despite me not being dressed in skintight pants, a wool scarf, and a Fedora with a feather stuck in it. My previous comment is more of a remark on their clientele, not their business.
@fireaunties well,i don't think someone could make a shot of espresso with a mocha pot. it can't maintain a certain temperature and pressure of the bolied water ,actually. n' ur right ! they don't even warm the cups for espresso
These videos must be done best sober... whether or not you make this normally sober. I don't think I understood more than a few words from the mumbling and bullshit. Decent demonstration as to how easy it actually is.
There are many problems with this video, but i'd just like to comment on the moka portions and not the sarcastic baristas that are obviously only trained to use expensive machines.
1. As said throughout this thread, do not stomp the beans. Very bad idea, and might cost you another moka pot.
2. Boling the water first does not affect the beans, since your stove should be on the lowest setting
3. The grind can be anywhere from semi coarse to fine, but espresso grind works the best for me.
You think they're douchebags just from this video? The chick at the store had not one iota of their personality. She was dry and almost enjoyed telling us that they don't have lowfat milk, only whole milk. I must say though, they made a great latte with whole milk. Very nice. Hate hipsters though.
@kubes Meh.. It's for that croud of people. And if you know how to make sence of that groupes well uhm "way of expression"? I guess you would call it. Their actualy pretty cool to hang out with as long as their not all into whos cool and shit.
Wow. Get over yourselves. I don't think you're indie enough...try harder.
But decent video. Boiling beforehand is a good idea.
They're not tamping! They're simply evening out the grounds, which is good. You can tell she's not really putting any pressure on it, certainly not the 40lbs for normal espresso.
For the future, the you guys handled yourselves made you seem really unprofessional which makes me want to doubt the validity of what you're saying.
why did you heat the water up first? Do you make the water boil first or just heat up? Also to what temp? Also, why did you tamp the grounds? Everywhere I read people say not to tamp grounds in moka pots because it can cause the moka pot to clog. Finally, how much coffee do you use in your moka pot? I tend to use 4 Tbs for the 13 oz moka pot I have since I figure a little water is always left still at the bottom section of the device. Is that amount about right?
My 13oz moka pot is called the 6 cup model. It makes either a mug and a half (or one full fancy cappuccino mug full.) The three cup model might be ok. It depends how much coffee you use. If you really pack the filter full, then using a 3 cup model or less will get you something more towards espresso (kinda.) If you buy a 6 cup and don't fully fill the filter basket you will still get thick, rich coffee, just a little less like espresso. Of course the bean and grind make a difference too.
After experimenting, I have found this video to be wrong. Do not tamp--you can even out the grinds with your finger if you like, just don't tamp. Also, don't pre-heat the water, it tends to cause the warm water to reach boil and push through the grounds "burning" your coffee. Use room temp. water or cold water. Also, no tap water, use bottled water or filtered water.
Made my first cup for me and my sister yesterday using Cuban dark roast beans that I gound in my shiny new burr grinder. The coffee would lovely.
I tried to make an americano but didnt realise ur meant to top-up with hot water. I just added milk to the coffee straight from the moka pot. I wondered why I wasnt getting 2 full mugs outta it. lol
There is some difference. Tap water has additives in the water. The problem is that these enhancements effect the flavor of the coffee. Bottled, or filtered water does not have these additives. But it really depends on your taste. If you can drink the tap water from your sink and like it then you will like your coffee, but if you prefer the taste of a particular bottled water, use that to make coffee. Adding milk also makes it harder to tell the whether you have used tap water or bottled.
Dumb bitches. stop laughing.

I'd call them the female equivalent of douchebags, but I'm not so sure they're even female.
Also, Ritual is a den of hipsters. I paid $7 for a cup of coffee there once that wasn't even that impressive. I won't be going back.

I must agree with some of the negative comments here. Have some staff with a little more class represent your company and your product.

Btw what size moka pot is best for one person wanting a mug full of coffee. (3 cup?)
