  • Nice analysis. But skip the "Grasshoppers".. :)

  • @pforgaci Well this is one of my oldest videos that i made for my own students who I call grasshoppers. Thanks for watching. Christophe.

  • great stuff , thanks.

  • Hello Christophe,

One question to be sure : when you uncoiled, you use the hips (like for the forehand) and the free arm stay back to avoid to turn the shoulders. Correct ?

    Jeff

  • @jfhuzen2 Yes the free arm remains behind you to keep you balanced and stop you from over rotating into the shot. So yes more hips and less shoulders on the backhand. Have a great Holiday season, let me know if you need more help. Christophe.

  • Good afternoon Christophe, Yours videos are great. I send you later videos for analysis but before I try to apply your common threats and that help in my game...

I can see on video that you play like you teach

one question : the L position stay until the end of BH because just before contact with the ball federer go below the ball and drop the raquet ?

    Jeff from France

  • @jfhuzen2 Yes the L stays through out the shot but you can release the wrist after contact. keep the "L" when you are below the ball.

  • Great video. The one-handed backhand down the line is the most satisfying stroke in tennis imo.

  • im amazed, thnksz

ill pay more attention to all this

and just started to use onehanded backhand instead of a twoahnded backahnd

    thnksz alot,

  • lol that was hilarious when you put yourself in the roger federer box.

  • Hi there,

Just wanted to say that this analysis was brilliant! Really! I had been struggling with my backhand, but your class is perfect! fantastic, my backhand has improved so much! thanks! I have found that my shot works best when I hold the racquet very close to the end of the handle. It seems to help me keep that loose grip I think. I am enjoying my backhand now and it is becoming my best offensive weapon. Did you ever do a similar one for the forehand? It would be great. Thanks again. Chris

  • @SuperBestgame yes i have done a breakdown of the forehand on my YouTube Channel. I thank you for your compliments. Christophe.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the great analyses. I would love to see a similar video on the backhand return. With fast serve I need to shorten my backswing more and more block the ball back.

Could you elaborate on that as I am struggling with that?

    Thanks,

    Eric

  • @ebphilla I will be doing a one-handed backhand return of serve soon but for now watch the forehand return of serve video i did the idea behind the stroke is the same. You need to shorten or abbreviate your stroke but not necessarily block the ball. I thank you for your kind compliment keep watching Christophe.

  • Finally 2 hear someone enfercising rhythm (foot/arm) and LEFT arm role which is even more important than dominant- in some phases... beside wrist position, of course : )

    Bravo.

  • @milisplitmethod I thank you for your positive comments. Christophe

  • This is the best analysis study of backhand I found on the web. It says it all or almost! great job! Thanks!

  • @SuperBestgame Thanks for watching and the compliment . Christophe

  • does Blake's backhand still follow the 90 degree angle rule?

  • @ccauffma They all do, some release a little earlier than others but they are all at 90 at contact. thanks for watching. Christophe

  • does Blakes backhand still follow the 90 degree angle rule?

  • Amazing 2 part tutorial! I thought I was doing everything right with my single hand backhand but still not getting results. I was: keeping perfect distance from ball, not too close not too far, rotating my shoulders, changing to backhand grip, keeping eyes on the ball, striking ball and follow through. But your tutorial showed me the intricate details I missing: the angle, shoulder rotation along with raquet, footwork, shifting weight, maintaining the angle, left arm position and follow thru!!!!

  • @jgelite78

Thanks for watching I am glad I was able to help!

  • @xstf Hi again coach. I tried out your tips over the last couple of weeks and worked really well. Initially I had some problems trying to keep in mind all of them and follow them as well. For example, a lot of times when on the run there just isn't enough time to execute all the steps. But over the course of time I learnt to improvise and learnt (roughly) the importance of a loose grip. Just a suggestion, could you add a few tutorial videos on the importance of grip: position, tightness. etc.

  • @xstf Tried your tips the last couple of weeks, worked really well! I have a good idea about how to keep a loose grip and take a high single hand backhand but would like to learn more. If you find the time would it be possible for you to make a video on these two topics: GRIP (position, tightness) and taking a HIGH single hand backhand. For now I'm checking out your other videos, serve, split step :-). Cheers!

  • excelent video!!! thank you!

  • 1) HEEL TO TOE, then racquet drops ( the rhythm into the stroke phase)

    2) non-racquet hand should STAY ON RACQUET until it drops to hip into power position to help fluid motion

    3) racquet face || to back fence

    4) BUTT CAP POINTS TO BALL (to prevent leading w/ racquet)

    5) BACK FOOT TUCKS INSIDE FOR POWER (since you cannot uncoil b/c u will open up)

    6) 90 degree point of contact ("L")

    7) on follow through, you CAN OPEN UP YOUR HIPS if you were running for the ball

    THANK YOU!!!

  • Thanks!! I might just use your step by step breakdown in the article part of the video on my website. Please keep giving me feedback and new ideas.

  • Thanks for another awesome Video :D

I ahve a quick question, I seem to be struggling to take a ball on the rise with a 1hbh though my timing isnt that bad. I usually end up waiting for it to drop and hitting it alot flatter. =/

  • love

  • iv switched over the one hander with the blx six one 95, and this video will help me immensely. I get the coach to watch the video before the lesson.

I noticed you were playing with an head racket Christope, iv not really tried playing the heads apart from my coachs prestige flexpoint midplus and felt very nice and improved my backhand.

  • how long does it take to make such a video?

  • Well the actual taping is the quick and easy part unless when I keep screwing up since i don't edit the work it's all done on one take. The longest part that can take up to hours is to choose clips after taping a match. It takes a while to go through my footage to decide which clips I want to use, then load them in the computer. But after everything is loaded it does not take long. So the preparation takes a while the actual taping is quick.

  • good work
