  • MY FUEL TAP LEAKS HOW CAN I FIX IT???

  • Hi, you just explained easily how to start a British seagull like mine, thank you! I have a Silver century plus, as second motor, on my sailing boat.

  • I've just bought one of these (a 400) mo-fo's!

How many horse power am I toting?

  • my seagull clutch is not working, i cant turn the drive off

    what is wrong?

  • I might be getting one of these. What would be a good contaier to put the water in? And does it splash much when it runs?

  • Hi just got a seagull, not going properly, does anyone know the proper mix for them? pete

  • Hi Pete 10 parts petrol to 1 part oil, change the spark plug and it should run sweet.

  • great, many thanks, p

  • @eetep hey this is MrMixedGas from the states. When you say 10 parts petrol 1 part oil, in america that is called 10:1(10 to 1) and that is one hell of a rich mixture is that what that engine runs on? Please reply back!!! Keep the blue smoke flying 2-Strokes forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • British!

  • as for fangus503, you can buy recoil for seagull ,do your home work before you comment on these reliable old motors, and your motor might run 50.1 but it also might only last 2 years, every evinrude mechanic will all tell you to disconect the auto oil feed after 2 years, cause thats when your waranty runs out, then you have to mix your own, and a lot of people will naturally put more oil in and wamo where back to where we started, i could go on all day on this issue, SEAGULL MEANS 4 EVER

  • @pepsijag Actually, we bought our Evinrude new back in '94. It still runs great, we always had 50:1 mixture in it. And as for the guy who said he hasn't seen a 'Rude in 15 years, that's just bullshit.

  • Makes you proud to be British!!

These engines will outlast all the others!!!

  • That's Cool!

  • What type of throttle cable you using there?

    nice seagull btw :o)

  • its the usual one, but the outer had cracks in it so i slid a plastic pipe over it to add strength, it worked a treat. Phill

  • I might be selling mine in the future.

  • IM THINKIN ABOUT BUYING one formy boat as an auxillary or to power my small fishing boat

dunno wether is would move my 7 metre rib tho!

  • Hi we had this on a 4.5 metre cabin boat and it moved it along no problem, i would not recommend these as a primary motor but as a back up you cannot go wrong. Phill

  • what fuel does this take,

    LRP (leaded)

    or unleaded,

    Thanks

    kris

  • Hi Kris, you just put unleaded in them 10 parts petrol to 1 part oil, they run forever, 100% reliable. phill

  • ok thanks phil,

just thinkin about buying one for an auxillary or for my small fishing boat

  • Yep!, that is how they are mate! COOL!

  • I just got a nice 40+. Runs great. What year and model is yours?

  • Pff, the best outboard for the world? Yeah, that's why they run at 10:1 fuel ratio. That means terrible emissions because it burns so much oil. Terrible emissions means dirty water. My Evinrude runs at 50:1 fuel ratio.

  • Now come on it wasn't evinrude that was used on the D-Day landings was it? it was the seagull 100% reliable, you have got to give respect for the seagull, 60 years on they are still bringing boats to shore when our fancy new motors pack in, regardless when you last used one they fire up first pull, they are the fisherman's friend. Phill

  • @fangus503 I can't remember seing a Evinrude for the past 15 years.

My Seagull was built in 1951 and it is still running as when it was new.

Probably in a few years noboddy knows what was evinrude.

  • @fangus503 yep, seagulls played a big part in stopping you from speaking german right now!, along with lister diesel engines. and anyway, with a new needle in the carb the run fine at 25:1, when you shitty plastic covered engine fails itl be a seagull that you wish you had!

  • Hmm, no automatic recoil pull chord. No wonder they went out of business!

  • you dont need a recoil for a seagull they always start first pull if it dont get a new one "the best outboard for the world"

  • i used this engine about 15 years ago..one of the most reliable engines in the world..

  • Excellent. I have a Forty.

  • ...

  • one fantastic engine

  • nice old motor
