  • Epic? Magical? I don't know if any of the so far coined words could come close to the emotions this can give!

  • oboe player has no chin.. lol

  • Because it's from Finland, I always imagine harsh Winters and amazing Spring time

  • Thanks by your sugestion!

    :-D

  • 6:51 is purely, in all seriousness is orgasmic.

  • @kiwihead441 feel that.

    This is just. HOLY SHIT.

  • Sibelius' music still sounds fresh, and transcends time as well as borders.

  • go Violas!! the UVU school symphony...we are playing this next semester. How exciting. :D thanks for posting this. I will have to listen to other recordings too.

  • ohhhh nooooooo!!!!!!

  • 5:51 what happened??? this was supposed to be slow and amazing, heavenly!

my heart sank, internet will never capture the grandness of live performance...

  • who is the first oboe?? sounds great!

  • 2:35. Goosebumps.

  • Listen to Okko Kamu and BPO, or Sir Thomas Beecham

  • Watch out in 2:57?

  • Stunning performance by a group of fresh and talented artists ! I found here all I like about classical music : sharp, frisky, energic, expressive, inspiring and moving. A dream come true... Thank you very much for posting this engchi93 !

  • The greatest Sibelius conductor of the 20th century was, for me, Sir John Barbirolli.......with his Halle Orchestra of course!!!

  • Splendid...

  • I'm 18, if I was in an orchestra with Sir Colin Davis I wouldn't suck that's for sure!

  • what kind of youth orchestra is this?!! some kind of super humans.

  • Wonderful

  • looove this symphony! :)

  • Great performance!

But, the best of all is the old one directed by George Szell.

    :-))

  • Yeh, that recording is legendary. I also like the equally famous Colin Davis/Boston and Ashkenazy/Philharmonia recordings.

  • @engchi93 I find the first of those perfect

  • I guess you never heard Vanska's, Segerstam's, or Bernstein's performances then have you? Because they blow Szell out of the water. Szell was a competent conductor, but he has been bettered by the younger generations.

  • Well, I have a lot of diferent performances of this symphony, but nome of then is those you indicate me. However, I know the Berstein's performance and I believe that Szell performance still deserves the gold medal.

    :-))

  • I absolutely agree. Szell was perfect in every detail.

  • I have heard Vanska and Bernstein' s performances. But Szell's performance with the Concertgebouw in 1964 is the best. Sorry. I beg to differ on your comment.

  • @jprmp ORMANDYS VERSION IS BETTER THAN SZELL

  • @jprmp I've heard them all and Okko Kamu's 1965 performance with the Berlin Philharmonic sounds best to my own ears...check it out sometime, you'll like it ;-))

  • perfect tempos, in my opinion much better than pekka-salonen

    totally awesome

  • I love this symphony... I love when the orchestra gets to the finale... the finale has to be my favorite movement.

I'm so glad I get to play

  • This is the last symphony i ever played with an orchestra(CBYO). How i miss it!

  • I love you mahlerorchestra and i am very sad, that I can't play next tour :-(

  • I love this orchestra, ambitious and youthfull. Little story: when Sir Thomas Beecham wanted a new piece for his orchestra he phoned with "Old Sib" and aften he becames what he wanted!

  • ...good story - if I understood your miserable English writing correctly ;-)

  • to wundakind:

you have my reaction wonderfull understood!

  • yes im playong this in the metro. youth orchestra. and i love this song. thank u for posting it.

  • This is freakin amazing :)

  • I love it
