This brings back some memories. Back in about 1980 at boarding school, we had a little Ferguson record player and a stack of 1950s/60s singles, and this was one of them. The fun we had as 8 or 9 year-olds playing these records, and ever since I've loved this era of music. thanks for posting
I must disagree with a few of these comments. A a fan of Sinatra's as well as Matt's I cant realy see their voices sounding alike. Matt Monro had the most cultured voice you could ever listen to, with perfect diction. He was unique and did'nt need to copy ,or sound like anyone. He was the owner of a voice you could never forget. As was Sinatra. The nearest voice for sheer quality to Matt's was Vic Damone, another great singer of years gone by. Where are their equals today?
I have to agree. Matt Monro, Sinatra and Vic Damone, all brilliant singers in their own ways and yet with distinctive styles. Equally as good, equally as different.
These comments are all pretty much on the money. The early Sinatra was truly incomparable (I'm talking mid 1940s--many of his fans don't know this Frank). But Matt Monro had a gorgeous, flawless voice and ranks at the very top. I just love listening to his voice; good for the soul. In fact growing up in the 1960s and hearing his songs on radio I did not even know he was British. It's sad he left us so early. Thanks for posting this for us!
First come first serve. I think Monro is perfect but Sinatra came enough years before him to claim the throne, so to speak. You have to knock the 'king of hill' off of his perch if you want to be the best, it just didn't happen with Matt even though I'll admit he could have been the best. Timing is everything.
when i was a kid, i'd turn the am radio dial to another station when this song came out. funny, as time progressed, i started to appreciate first the brass blaring, then the drums, then years later -- Mr. Monro's voice and style. Then much later, i realized i'd better listen lots closer cuz these type of songs did not come around often. And now i really like the lyrics and makes me think of a recent lover. she fits the words to a T... thanks for posting excellence!

Matt Monroe was his own man with his own talent, but in his day he was often referred to as "The British Sinatra".

As a Sinatra fan, I've got to admit that M.M. had a better voice - at least at this age - the early Sinatra voice was incomparable

M.M. was pure class & one of Sinatra's favourite singers. There is a hint of Sinatra in his voice but I prefer Matt every time!

Thanks for posting this. I used to play this song to serenade my then three-year-old boy to sleep. He's now 10 years old. It's our bonding song.
