  • Animals are needed for the many things that man does. They have no choice as humans are masters. One day however the debt will be repaid. Tenfold.

  • Thank you for the heartfelt video. My father was a disabled veteran from WWII. As so many of us understand the tragedy of war, the sad fact that horses suffered great hardship and death without recognition is reprehensible. I have a blog - 2talkhorses - and have shared your video with my readers. Thanks again for creating such a moving documentary, Pat Miran

  • sad, as i believe the horse is the

    single most mistreated animal in

the history of mankind, shame on us,

but thank you for the video, very well

    done, however sad

  • m great grandfather was a war horse cavalry soldier in britain. Makes me sick these innocent animals being put in the line of fire. The thanks these animals get today is people ditching them to slaughter houses and rescues. No sense of courage or loyalty to these animals. Disgusting. Thank you for explaining this to the general public that need to understand these horses sacrifice and the men who fought in this war with them

  • It breaks my heart how many horses died. We shall never use animals in war again. Great video!.x

  • @myhorses4ever I TOTALLY AND EMPHATICALLY AGREE! Selfish human beings destroying innocent lives. Humans have no right to do this to these animals just because they can. Lack of common sense to take horses up against machine guns. Hello? My great grandfather was a war horse person beautiful man but why? Why/how/what on earth were they thinking to do this on horseback?

  • This is the saddest thing I've ever seen. Thanks for educating us. What noble creatures!

  • Well done man!

    absolut outstanding!

  • i eventually started crying how sad :(:(:(:(

  • Very well done! The footage of horses used in the war is brilliantly used to tell the story, and your Dad did a great job too.

  • fantastic well put togethor video - great music choice

  • Well done and poignant video! So sad that the horses were exploited so. The music was touching and effective also. This video will haunt me for a long time. Good job.

Read the War Horse book and loved it (though a dark story). A wonderful public service to open up people's eyes to the plight of war horses. Understand there's a new true story book Warrior: the real war horse out now. Want to read it too.

  • How nany died in the war, horses and other animals used in it?. I have heard numbers as high as a 3rd or 1/4 of the human casualties of the war.

  • She did a great job!

  • Very well made video which tells the true story. Thanks.

Shires and mules aren't film star material in Hollywood, but they are acknowledged here along with ridden horses for what they did.

  • omg thats so sad :'(

  • Fabulous film. Well done to you.

  • More moving that Spielberg's "War Horse", as well as educational. Your Dad has a great voice.

  • i just learned something.... you know war horse the movie? it kinda takes all the credit for what really did happen ..and no offence but the mule was a way better animal then the horse

  • Hardened and battle experienced soldiers were brought to tears when they saw the suffering of the horses on the battlefields. Will we ever learn? We still make war today. In the name of what?

  • Great Documentary, thanks so much for sharing.

  • Yes...I can't bring myself to watch the Spielburg film. Knowing how the horses of the "Great War" suffered, I doubt this could have been shown in Spielburg's film. If he does show it, most viewers won't want to watch. If he doesn't show it, then it is a fairy tale. Thanks for your showing of the true nature of WWI and the fate of the horses.

  • @pattywolford He did show the harsh treatment of man and horse during WW1, but it was in no way glorifying it. He also showed that there were men with kind hearts, who objected to such harsh treatment of these horses, but in such conditions, under orders, were forced to push them until they buckled under the pressure. He portrayed the war as Hell on Earth, for both Men and beast, but in the packed cinema I saw the movie in, it got a huge round of applause at the end. It is a Masterpiece.

  • @Madando2011 Thanks you, Madando2011. I have a real problem seeing animals mistreated, even if there is a positive outcome. Doubt I can watch the film because of this.

  • @pattywolford No horses were harmed in the marking of "War Horse", so you won't really be seeing any animals mis-treated. Madando2011 gave a good description of the movie. I can't get past seeing the horses swap out playing the parts in movies, as like swapping out human actors. What... that isn't the same horse... oh yeah... it is a movie. I kept being reminded it is a movie and jolted out of the story by horse swapping to do different tasks. Did a fair job though!

  • @GreatG0dOm Thanks for your reply, but i still can't bring myself to watch the film!

  • it is always good with information about things that happened during wars, But funny enough USA is the country with many files who can't be opened in 50 years 100 years, well it is not funny as, most the things about torture of iraq people will never be shown, Bush got his wish and shovled USA back to before the civilwar, and most americans just act like sheep and agree, I adore horses, but would choose a human life over a animal. why do we always see biblethumbers saying god bless on war

  • I think Spielberg's movie is a direct result of your idea!

  • @Randy91331 oh yes Spielberg trolls around on youtube to get ideas and materiale for new movies. NOT

  • Wonderful Video :) I Loved It So Much! You Guys Did Great :)

  • Great film. Thanks for uploading.

  • Thank you for this fine tribute to the horses during WW1. Nice job!

  • Thank you for your video....

  • I think we should acknowledge that horses played a big role in WW1, but if the choice is kill a man or kill a horse? i would kill the horse.

  • @myusnadine WHY would you kill a horse?? What reason would there be to kill a healthy, innocent being? Since when would anyone need to choose between killing a healthy, innocent non human being or a human?

  • @VeganEyes Many of the Horses were killed by their riders.........who knew that if they left their horses alive they could be abused, misused or worse, butchered alive for meat to keep the humans alive in Countries where there was extreme starvation. Various Governments banned the return of Horses, so the Soldiers had no choice, most, I believe, chose the kindest, most difficult and heartbreaking option.

  • @VeganEyes Starvation?

  • @myusnadine um the choice between horse or person was not what the war was about :o what on earth is that statment all about?

  • Depressing.

  • Needed to be seen and said. Well done.

  • Mankind owes a debt alright, and that debt can never be paid, but what can be done is stop using animals for wars that we create, it is morally reprehensible. I first learned of horses being used in battle while reading All Quiet on the Western Front (German: Im Westen nichts Neues) is a novel by Erich Maria Remarque, a German veteran of World War I. It the most beautiful anti-war novel on earth, and it is no wonderthat the Nazis banned it. I highly recommend it.

  • Mankind is indeed indebted to the millions of Animal Soldiers. God bless them all and their memory.

  • enya - evening falls :}

  • I have seen men/women cry for their fallen equine friends, much like if they were family. Humans can and do form close bonds with horses and dogs (mostly) and morn their passing with great sadness and reverance.

  • @JustMeOrMaybeNot very true, I cried when I lost my dog, it was like loosing a brother.

  • Good job Bambi! ;)

  • hello :) thankyou for commenting :D

  • Shame is upon all who use, abuse, then abandon our equine partners - great video well done !!

  • Excellent job! And wonderful music choice! You really captured important information about horses in war.

  • Any relation to Jamie Pugh from Xfactor? Great video.
