If that's the point being made then it is clearly incorrect. Shearer is not the reason why Newcastle were relegated...he didn't exactly have many games to turn the fortunes of the club around. I agree with Arsene Wenger who commented that it would have taken more than a good manager to save the club in the available games; it would have taken a miracle. I think there were a multitude of reasons why Newcastle were relegated; I think you're the one missing the point.

Let me just point one thing out: Newcastle have been in every Premiership League season (bar 1) since it started! Sunderlnad have survived for at least 2 years rinning only 3 times. Also, we managed to be English champions on 6 occasions, twice more than NUFC whose last title was 82 years ago.

I'm originally from Gillingham, and was there with the away fans when they relegated Sunderland to the old 3rd division, for some reason there were loads of Newcastle fans in there too, and when Gillingham won they all stood up and waved their balck and white scarves at the fullwell end, taunting the Sunderland fans! I though then that if Newcastle ever get relegated the mackems won't forget this, it was a nasty, horrible gesture and in my view the Sunderland fans have every right to gloat now!
