  • I saw fome videos by the Gearson Institute and they espouse eating as many potatoes as you can muster, I wondered about that and came to the conclusion that it is the nutritional value found in the potatoe as well as the caloric density of the food. With your intensity I wish you would include a more well rounded view and science in your instruction.

  • don't forget that a potatoe is highly nutritious and very caloric (as opposed cocoa leaves which you seem to be hung up on- on some documentary I heard that coco leaves gives energy, and even suggested that it helps with breathing up in high elevations.) So what bugs me is that the raw food instructors really do not address this point of high caloric intake. I started a raw food diet and quit after a couple of moths because my musles lost all elasticity, hardness & rapid weight loss.

  • Connection with the Earth and energy; with body, mind and spirit. There is so much more to good health other than healthy food. There are some who don't eat much of anything at all (pranic diet) and they are still very vibrant and healthy. Very interesting topic that needs more attention. Food alone is not enough.

  • @nutral84 it's a stimulant and mildly mind altering like other native plants such as Khat which are all illegal in the US because of the war on all drugs.

  • fat soluble vitamins from oils? or fats?

  • Tribes MOVE, all the time. They don't go to the gym because they already work out throughout the day, every....single....day....

I think if I had to fight a Nomad or a Marine I would honestly choose the Marine even though I wouldn't stand a chance since I'm a housewife, lol.

  • Clean air, lack of electro smog, less stress

  • maybe they are not duped by the illusion of disease and poor health. If you want to be healthy then be it! You do not need to attain good health, you are already healthy. It is all just an illusion. Reconnect with earth, make your food with love and move forth through the world with love and purpose.

  • the pure connection they have with earth. living in harmony with the earth. it's like a dance that modern day society has forgotten.

  • being secluded from a majority of the toxins (physical and psychological) that we're exposed to on a daily basis must give them a huge "advantage" as well. and living in a stable, sustainable community seems just as important as nutrition. kevin, how long do the q'ero natives typically live? and what kind of degenerative disease rates do they have? out of curiosity, do you know anything about their pregnancy, birthing, and child rearing customs?

  • I still thinks it's mainly the insane amount of toxins we are exposed to in industrial nations. I remember the study the CDC did on bio-monitoring that found your average person in the US has over 700 synthetic chemicals in their body. It's madness that more people aren't concerned about this. The secondary reason IMO is the natives are more connected with nature (including food).

  • they eat the foods that grow locally in the season they were meant to grow in. also, all the potatoes can be converted into saturated fat in the body as needed (just like the Asians have with white rice) so even though their diet is low fat, they can make as much fat as their body needs for all the roles fat plays in the diet

  • More time outside, less stress, more exercise....

  • Seems they live more on instinct rather than intellect.

  • Whatever environment god puts humans in he puts the food that they r suppose to be eating to maintain life. Most of our food is hybrid. Meaning that was manipulated by man in some form to create another species. So the foods that we eat are not at its highest potency. I have heard that potatoes are a hybird as well.

  • Perhaps it's the magical affects of high altitude itself, once generations have learnt to adapt. I think if you put the average american coming from a SAD diet into the same environment they wouldn't come close to the same affects as these people have, yet.

  • They might be less exposed to the stresses and alienation of global capitalism. I'm talking commodity fetishism, paying rent, wage job, the news, etc.

  • clean air, low stress, low toxin exposure

  • an awareness of & relationship with their creator & no judgement/resentments. Part of the modern people's toxicity, I believe, is disconnection from our creator, judgement/resentments, etc...

  • what is their life expectancy?

  • Air quality...

  • It's hard to say. My guess is that they live in a place with no pollution, are physically active, maybe stress (or lack of) has something to do with it?

  • You have a very inquisitive mind :) It's great to be able to remain so open minded! I think that, maybe, one of the reasons they thrive on such a diet is because they probably eat the same as their ancestors...locally grown...in harmony with their environment...natural rhythm of life...I'm thinking of the ancestors because the people who are more susceptible to becoming alcoholics are the ones whose ancestors did not consume alcohol and did not develop the digestive enzymes...

  • Very interesting talk wish I could of been there to hear the whole thing.

So with the way the world is Will highly mineralized potato's be the next super food?

    Somebody will market this.

I think we need to look at where we live and decide what works best for are climate and surroundings.

  • They almost certainly live in small, closely knit societies or tribes.

  • Very interesting video Kevin. Definitely gives me something to think about. Thanks for posting, I would love to see the rest of that talk if you got it.

  • that was brilliant!- the sunshine I think participates in their metabolism, the vit d being up so high in the mountain range is is going to make their pituitary really be set right and release all sorts of immune boosting lymphosites into the blood and constantly be cleaning the blood and liver

  • low stress

  • The Q'ero eat mostly potatoes, corn, a really small amount of animal protein and very little fat. This is particularly why they are able to do strenuous mountain climbing, in addition to being accustomed to these type of exercises without being overly exerted. It has been documented that people thrive on high carbohydrate, low protein and low fat diets whether raw or cooked. Check out books by Dr. McDoughall, The China Study and Dr. Douglas Graham (80/10/10).

  • I think it's the air they breathe, they do not live in a stressful environment. Kevin and Ann-Mari how do you get so white and beautiful teeth?

    Love your show.

  • exercise and sunshine are the other two legs of the health tripod

no doubt that lack of pollutants can't hurt

  • Even the peruvian indians who lived on a diet of 90% potatoes ate meats once in awhile when available.

    Clean Organic Meats #FTW

  • @imnotabear

    health isn't a tripod:

    diet

    exercise

    sunshine

    sleep

    mind

    emotions

    spirit

  • I think maybe the Q'ero has built up some sort of relationship with their diet. From what it sounds like, those people have been eating a constant diet for hundreds if not thousands of years. It makes me wonder if their bodies have somehow adapted to work better with the food it's been given over the generations.

  • their lifestyle I would assume forces them to move their bodies all the time .. the gathering of food, just the washing of clothing and getting of water... they move their bodies as we were meant to move them and I would think living much as we were meant to live. I would think this would have to account for a good portion of their health...

  • the fresh air that they are breathing and ayahuasca for spirituality...
