this makes me mad..why would you pull back on the yoke!!!! even if it is a dual engine flame out.. you have to pitch nose down to get optimum relight speed, and to prevent core lock. Or just to avoid a dam stall a control decent into the ground people can walk away from..High vertical speed and low air speed is certain death...people start flying jet and forget the fundamental of flight, it is all about controlling energy people Physics 101
@Foxx1981 Ya, good luck finding a United flight from Panama to MArtinique. And Air France is shit. Their planes are damn near falling apart on the inside. Overpriced and rude, I have never been satisfied with AF.
Spot on about MD though. I have a theory about them. They make such good fighters that when they make a passenger plane they're just not used to having a plane that's entire purpose is to NOT kill so they compensate and build crappy airliners.
I assume the reason that they didn't switch the anti-icing system on and simply leave it on, rather than switching it off and then putting it on again later, was pressure from the company to save fuel. Until there are stiff prison sentences for corporate manslaughter, those at the top who make the decisions which result in so many deaths seen in ACI will continue to behave the same way. As the greedy bastards are all friends of the government law makers, that's not going to happen anytime soon.
Nose down, increase speed, slowly maintain altitude, problem solved. What a dumbass pilot. Who in their right minds raises the nose of the airplane when it's stalling...that's like the first cardinal rule of flying.
Easy to say that when you are not in that situation, like it said in the end, they did not have the training for a stalled plane and with personal problems caused by your employers can add confusion to the human brain.I'll like to see you remember to do everything right in any life or death situation?
@TerrieClarissa Hi, How to deal with a stalled plane is not the problem in this case. I think he was spending too much time on other items then concentrating on the stick shaker alarm. What else do you need more to get the message that your plane is getting out of control? Unfortunately the First Officer did not have the courage to overrule the decisions made on the left.
This has to be the saddest one, to date. It's the back-story; since when does a captain of an airliner have to Moonlight as a bartender to support a family. Yesterday he's pouring cocktails, then tomorrow he's in a cockpit, responsible for everyone's life? Then, this shitty ass fly by night airline company folds up, walks away like nothing happened. Just sad. Makes my heart pancake into the ground
Too many crashes so far are caused primarily by pilots being over worked, stressed and tired for my comfort. My sister is in America right now and flying back home in the first week of feb... Good idea to watch ACI, not...
Some similarities to Flight 447 and pilot reactions in a stall.
The computer should be programmed to provide a diagnostic to give pilots options to solve the emergency. Only a computer can make the rapid analysis of lift conditions within a window of a few critical minutes.
@normanjtongmd The two crashes are similar in the fact both planes crashed due to lack of lift. With flight 708, the pilots breached the aircrafts flight envelope. With 447, the pitot tubes "malfunctioned" or didnt register proper air speed. Which, can be overcome by radar and ground speed indicators. That is why 447 is still under investigation and 708 was ruled pilot error.
Cheesy and contrived?? what do you expect, spirit communication from the beyond to re enact this for you?? Usually this series uses the actual data they have to make this, so it's as true as it can be given the circumstances and it gives you documented insight into how investigations are carried out and how the things fly in the first place. Ungrateful individual don't watch it if you don't like it
@Hussainm911, It's because if it was a double engine flamout then the captain needed all the altitude he could get, so he could make it to the airport but he should've relised it was a stall because of the rate of altitude he was falling by.
after washing a few episode of air crash investigation even i know that you have to push forward on the control column to come out of a stall, but this captain did just the opposite, why? its still a mystery to me
@Hussainm911 On one hand, we know exactly what is happening as revealed by the investigation, so it is easy to know what to do. On the other hand, the pilot was probably confused, fixated on his engines, and probably locked into circular thinking (i.e. what's wrong... what's wrong) and not taking in all possible information sources, lilke the co-pilot's statements. If one could break him out of that then he could save the plane because then he'd know what to do.
9:05 does anyone else tut? "isnt equipt with RADAR" If an airport in doesn't have RADAR then it isn't an airport... it is a concrete field what planes land on. Even a lighthouse would be an improvement! does it have a runway? Or is it a row of candles with a man that lights them by rubbing two sticks together with a stop sign at the end?
Another pilot error and another set of recommendations. Still the pilots are left with pen and paper to do the calculations. When will the technology reach the pilots to assist in calcs and set forth alerts during critical situations...
@sasukeAMVcreator Pilots are human. They make mistakes. If they never made mistakes the only fatal accidents would be when a component fails or weather, like micro-bursts, intervenes. If confronted by some unsettling situation, if the pilot reacts correctly or guesses the proper action to take, which is most of the time, he save the plane. If he fails or guesses wrong, it can become an episode on Air Crash Investigation. We see the failures not the successes.
@4k8t You are right. But the stick shaker DOES NOT lie. Whenever you feel the stick shaker you push the plane downwards, the co-pilot realised this and had he been in command the plane might have been saved.... but the captain himself was too panicky to do anything.
Their pilots should be trained better. No communication at all during the emergency.

if stick shaker then nose down. how could the pilot mishandle such a basic rule?

@knakrzy Panic, poor training. Ideally most pilots will never experience a stall, so training is paramount.

Isn't there a golden rule for stall: nose down! To gain speed and lift, and thus save yourself and people.
