I think what happened was that Jay and Spinner never framed Jimmy for the prank, so he just went for Emma instead of Jimmy. Since he wasn't in shock over having already shot Jimmy he was more confident going after her, it was easier to shoot and Sean got shot protecting her. Rick might even be alive in this alternate.
