  • saw you commenting on animal planet and either you got paid to say stupid shit which makes you an idiot or you are simply an idiot you pick

  • handsome and intelligent speaker! Yes, Facebook is not just a website to post pictures on..it means a certain social and psychological needs that most of us are longing for!

  • facebook is meaningless and is more at face value of what people want you to know. I think its all about attention , and these people use it in a way to gain that attention in which they lack in the REAL WORLD. Im sorry it is very idiotic , i miss the time where you didnt know where people were ( as in being tagged) and if you saw them out and about you would talk and catch up. people have more time and are not spending it wisely

  • Can't see much of interest or value in this

  • This guy doesn't really get it. It's the age gap. Anybody born before probably 1985 give or take a year will never really understand the culture of online social networks and how the offline and online realities of our modern lives affect each other.

  • this video's not really informative, i can sum up all those words hes saying with a really simple statement: people spend a lot of time on facebook, and our research tells us they use it simply as a medium of communication... so uh.. ok... cool..thts it

  • OMG Check This Out You Can See

Who Is Viewing Your FaceBook Profile

this is the coolest thing ever!!!! Check it at

    Peeker . info

  • Well he talked for 3 and a half minutes but i learnt nothing.Yay internet : D

At least he's got a cool accent.

  • Oh my, I wonder what this guy would say about youtubers. He would make mincemeat of me. It's all about perception and sometimes perceptions are wrong. It's interesting. Does he profile musicians also?

  • His argument is weak. It seems pretty obvious that people make a good amount of effort to portray themselves as "better" than they actually are. Humans are masters of deception, we are experts in making ourselves appear bigger, sexier, smarter, braver, and so on (the list is way longer) than we actually are. Facebook is the perfect environment to exercise this tendency in.

  • Check out I'm an Island By Kaz Piech

  • wow. very professional judging people people's behavior professor.

    total dislike.

  • Mindless dribble.

  • I can't disagree more that Facebook is used more for communication than to project an ideal self. He seems to know the truth till 1:12, when he's let a whole host of narcissistic drones off the hook. Facebook conversations and particularly the 'what's on your mind' functions are used to fulfill celebrity desires. Facebook is used to live through other people's eyes. Never seek affirmation from anybody else. Still an Interesting talk.

  • I'm an early adopter of social networking, I'm just not sure about Facebook.

As for people without phones, they force me to put pen to paper and think about what I'm going to say to them.

  • interesting stuff

  • misleading title

  • @kennyvsspenny24 The title is the answer and is also the question, which is addressed with "Facebook is really great, it helps you psychologically in some vague way". Meaning this Sam Gosling guy is a Facebook addict and won't admit it.

  • Animals are the best people!

  • What does it say about you if you don't have a facebook profile?

  • It probably means you don't need coddling...

  • True. I haven't been coddled in a long time. :)

  • @YourTeacherLE That you may be left behind over the next couple of decades. How do you view people without telephones? Social networking is the foundation of communication now. Buckle up the future's coming at us at a ferocious pace.

  • If you want true intelligence check out Milton Friedman on youtube... not this hack diaper doper baby

  • another faux intellectual.

  • Just because you don't like it or agree with it does not mean you can dismiss the content of it on a whim by dismissing it as faux intellectual.

I'm amazed at how many people go around with a labeling gun slapping "pseudo-intellectual" on thoughts or perspectives they find boorish or simply don't care for.

Even if the man is not brilliant or well spoken, it does not discount the validity of his point. Human beings act they way they do for good reasons. Be that in a bar or on facebook.

  • What in the hell are you talking about soldier? I think I did dismiss it... no? Is it illegal to have differing opinions? Last time I checked the progressives haven't accomplished turning us into a monocratic government.

... and no, humans will never be brilliant and well spoken all the time, but calling this garbage education is doing a huge disservice to our future. This is what colleges "teach" now? Incremental indoctrination leads to tyranny becoming reality.

    But I digress... why soldier?

  • My heart dropped @ 1:13. I thought the professor was going explain how Facebook is manipulative program which it really is.

  • @teo829 It is what you make of it, like anything else.

  • @teo829 Absolutely. He seems to disard his own musings which happen to be right. He's allowed dubious boffin research to overrule his own instincts.

  • @teo829 study some psychology you fucking retard

  • You have an amazing channel. I am very interested the perception of reality in a virtual space. Thank you.

  • Dr. Gosling is an awesome teacher at UT! I looooved his class :D

  • well this was really waste of my time looking at this clip...

  • LOL! 5***** Good Job !

    "We all shine on" ;)

  • what you are saying is, excuse my french, BULLSHIT!!!

it's quite informative what he has to say, virtual reality is becoming more and more important and certainly something one can gain insights from which may make us understand the human psyche and human needs a little better

  • You're right!

What would the world ever do without observers providing a steady stream of deeply philosophical wisecracks.

    Thank you for your services.

  • John Watson was a famous psychologist, you may have heard of him, the entire propaganda machine that is the advertising market and to a greater extent the media in general is all based on his psychological theories....you may want to ask yourself why some psychologists are are noted if all they talk is "Mush".....

  • Yeah right.

That's quite a lofty response my friend. Are you sure that the entire sphere of advertising and media heavily draws inspiration from this one man?

And as to the issue of notoriety, you can still vomit out nonsense and have the intelligentsia worship your puke-stained loafers.

  • no not just him, also the nephew of Freud who went to live in the states he used psychology to control the masses....

  • Or you're not bright enough to get something out of it

  • @u5chi1

Congratulations!!! You have no future. You're morally, financially, and intellectually bankrupt. Good luck buying a house. :P

  • @megaFTN lame ... Please try again

  • quite interesting, thanx!
