  • I remember hearing this song back in the 60's while at the beach at Salton Sea Lake in California...memories.......

  • this just might be my favorite country song of all time

  • Just heard this song for the first time on sat radio, nice song.

  • A hauntingly beautiful song that will stand the test of time. Thankyou for posting.

  • what a nice voice much better than that fat bitch adele!!!

  • If you'd put out like Lisa, maybe you wouldn't be bitching about it.

  • I don't download a lot off here because of a slow connection but I'm glad I did for this song. I remember it from when I was young. I listened mostly to rock. Some country artists just have that "voice" that makes you want to listen. Jessi has that voice.

BTW, sentimental for the background hiss. Gotta luv it!

  • a song about a love s strong nothing could destroy it.

  • how very beautiful this song is sung with so much feelings ..top song lynne

  • Well, I did experience the loss of a spouse...kissed her good-bye in the morning, and never saw her again. This song speaks volumes to people like me...it tells of our loss like no other song. The singer is simply a kindred spirit who has recognized his emotional turmoil, and vows to help an old widower cope, and go on living. In my case it was: 'I'm not Kyoko...my name is Linda.' Thanks for posting this priceless, soulful melody.

  • I agree with the Okie, it is truly one of the best songs ever recorded!

  • please, would it be possible to have "come on in" uploaded...? maybe?

  • I WANT TO SEE N HEAR THIS SOO BAD BUT IT KEEPS STOPPING ERRR

  • "trials" on the "christian" people as the cause, bad things and situations happen to all people, and If I were a counselor and was going to add my input or opinion to this song I would remind the souls that are in these terrible traps and marriages that tolerance, patience, love, and understanding conquers all. WE ARE HUMANS, we aren't perfect ever no matter how many bibles we read. Christians have murdered more people throughout the ages than Hitler ever imagined.....God bless

  • or some other Christian hymm. I am sorry for being somewhat brass but this beautiful song is somewhat tainted now because christianities double standard, biased and judgemental negative view was applied to it. This song is about the HUMAN struggle and many people are hung in traps such as this. It always puzzles me that rape. murder, child abuse, etc. very horrible painful things happen in society and christians pathetically blame peoples loss of god on wordly people as the cause and gods

  • Comment removed

  • The bible actually states that followers of Christ would always suffer greatly, due to the "tests" trials and tribulations that he places upon them, so don't hand me the typical double standard that if you are close to god he will make your life easy and painless because that is a contradiction to everything your good book says. Also important to remember this song wasn't written for christians so maybe "christians" should be analyzing judging and critiquing "Amazing Grace" "Kneel at the Cross"

  • Hvae I ever lost a spouse to sudden death? NO If I had would I allow anyone or anything to deteriorate my love for her? NO This is a tradgedy any morally decent person would have enormous difficulty overcoming....So is the man being judged for having this "hole' in his heart? Or are you judging the woman for being soft hearted and reaching out to love someone who had this greif in their life?? Do you think the word of God automatically removes all of our pains in "RL" lol?

  • Never said this song was about Jesse and Waylon and it is very blatant from the lady narrator of the song that although it pains her her love will endure thier pain to his or death. Actually hearing songs such as this one is very much so...therapy for people in similar situations, knowing that someone else has suffered the same often soothes the heart...just knowing were not the "lone Ranger" helps us...anyhow this is one of the most beautiful SONGS ever written or sang

  • 2) October 26, 1969 - Jessi Colter married Waylon Jennings in Mesa, Arizona. They both contributed to country music's first platinum album, Wanted: The Outlaws, and Waylon frequently hailed Jessi as a major force in helping him conquer his cocaine addiction. Waylon passed away on February 13, 2002. In 2006, Jessi released her first traditional studio album in 20 years, and their son Shooter Jennings has followed in mom and dad’s footsteps as a recording artist.

  • Anyhow for a real take on the strength of love outside your closed mind paste "Waylon and Jessi Their Love Their Legacy" in your browser and open your mind, but be careful may be nore than you can wrap your mind around.

  • My eyes are not blue, but mine will not leave you til the sun touches your face. Must be painful for you to live your life"MR. Christian" without the realization that love can overcome ANYTHING! Hmmmmf!

  • You should open your heart and your mind because a "christian ccounselor" should always find the positive side of EVERYTHING. This song was written when C and W was about hurt and pain. I hope you would reconsider counseling people with your '"I'm so right and informative mneandering" under the presumption that you are a "christian" God Bless

  • Seriously man??? Really? I have read my bible, trusted God and prayed since I was small child and now I pray for you to open your heart. This song is about a couple who both greive because of the mans prior loss of his lover but this ladies undieing love and devotion to him causes her to always greive with him to her dieing day. IT IS ABOUT LOVE OVERCOMING ALL It is peculiar and typical to me to witness the closed minded and negative input of a...lol..."Christian"..

  • my half sisters' name is lisa... and mine is julie... this is a song i would show my dad, if only he understood. sadly he won't, because he doesn't know how to love his children

  • I love her and Waylon They Loved each other, and it went to grave loveing each other.

  • I know a house just outside of Adin CA. It was the house of my first wife's uncle. The ghost of what once lived in that house carries this feeling and it's noticeable.

  • Just awesome Jessi! We Love you, Benji, Fallon, Nv.

  • my names not lisa my name is waylon

  • Reminds me of my first breakup and how horrible it felt. The pain goes away. Just hang tough.

  • I am In love with A guy. He loves me Back, But He Is still in love with A girl who Left him Last winter. This hurts because He refuses to make me his Until He isn't In love with Her. So, I'm Not Mayra, My Name Is Haylee, Mayra Left you, Months ago.

  • I'm not Lisa, my name is Julie

    Lisa left you years ago

    My eyes are not blue

    But mine won't leave you

'Til the sunlight has touched your face

  • She was your morning light Her smile told of no night Your love for her grew With each rising sun And then one winter day His hand led hers away She left you here drowning in your tears, here Where you've stayed for years Crying Lisa, Lisa I'm not Lisa, my name is Julie Lisa left you years ago My eyes are not blue But mine won't leave you 'Til the sunlight shines through your face I'm not Lisa
  • the best decade of country was the 1970's

  • Jessi hit #4 in Billboard, 6-21-75. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • WOW......listening to this takes me RIGHT back to being a little

kid in the 1970s.........so young, but knowing even then what a sad,

    and poignant song this was.

  • Very Cool Song~!~!~!~

  • wrong again hammerod. i never said ANY thing about SEXUAL MONOGAMY as it relates to LOVING another - i think you've been a psych for so long you need treatment for dementia.

we are NOT designed to love one person emotionally or otherwise and it is only through our experiences and self discovery that we can figure out what and who it is we are looking for - some people are fortunate and find it while most spend their lives searching - they may not find it until they've passed.

  • This song could bring tears if I'd let it....I'd change the words to "I'm not Lynda...." and dammit...my eyes are green!!!

  • My Mom has this record, and I remember listening to it over and over again when I was young. Her voice is amazing and the simplicity of arrangement highlights her talent. Truly beautiful. :)

  • This song still touches me in the core of my soul. It is so hauntingly beautiful.

  • What a gift we have received "Waylon & Jessi" Go with god.

  • This song gives me goosebumps!!!!

  • the 7 dislikers are either named Lisa, or, Julie. God bless ya, Miss Miriam. (Jessi's real name).

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

  • Very Good!! So many memories came rushing back!!

  • i've always loved this song. my ex wife used to sing it to me before she turned into "LISA".. still like it, sorta bitter sweet

  • cvfd & roseylee8 have said it all.

This song takes the heart to another place in time.

  • i love this song, it's right up there with "he stopped loving her today"

it is the only song with Lisa in it

  • So beautiful! I get the goosebumps listening to it. I'm a senior and remember Jessie way back when and always loved her voice.

  • what a beautiful voice,

  • I was raised on this song; it reminds me so much of my mother, it brings tears to my eyes.

  • lovely song :) i have the 45?

  • ...What a nostalgic peice of "Sonic Alchemy." Longer, deeper & more memorable than the best of traditional music. Legendary at the least - Soulfully riveting at it's best. Miss Jessi cannot be forgiven nor forgotten amongst the greatest. What memories she recalls will not be forsaken....

  • OHH i remember this song, this album from when i was a kid. My dad had it. I looooved this song and still do, i was siging it low the other day, kinda under my breathe so as not to bother anyone or scare them lol, and i was hoping it was on here. thanks so much for this lovley song. Such a gem, would be nice to hear a remake of it. But by whom? who can top that?

  • I was named after this song, which kind of makes it sound like my mama forgot the point lol

  • @irishcatholicgirlie so your mom named you after this song & forgot why she named you Lisa? lol

  • All I can say,is that since I first heard her voice years ago,her voice and music brings me to tears...I absolutely love her! She will always be number one in my book! May she NEVER be forgotten!

  • I Love this song. It brings me back to my youngert day, in the 60's. It may be a sad song and I will always cry when I hear it..When I was in Vietnam, they would play this song. It brought me back to my home in Miami, FL. For a short time I could put the war out of my mind, and listen to a very special song.

  • Why do so many of these country women sound like goats when they sing?

  • @donepearce You must have some kind of fetish for farm animals if you think Jessi sounds like a goat everything about the woman is beautiful.

  • @stakfan I agree. Any fool who thinks this superb woman sounds liike a goat has probably been spending FAR too much time with farm animals in the first place.

donepearce is not fit to lick the edge of Jessi's cowgirl boots.

But his putrid liberal mouth may feel free to lick the nearest goat's ass at any time.

  • @TheDreamer122 It is not my mother who was the country singer.

  • My deepest condolences to Jessi on the 2002 loss of her superstar husband Waylon Jennings.

  • Jessi, on her own and apart from Waylon, was one of the biggest selling recording artists in that mid-70s period. She did three powerhouse Capitol albums, then when she wanted to do a "tribute album" to her deceased mom in 1977, her label refused to support her. She made the album anyhow, then she backed very clearly away from the spotlight to have her baby and focus upon supporting Waylon.

She doesn't deserve to be known only as "Waylon's wife." This woman was a major star/talent on her own

  • How haunting is that opening music? Have loved this for YEARS!!

  • beautiful

  • Nobody can ever really replace our first real love. We can love again, we can love deeply, but that one true love, once lost, will haunt everything we do. It won't necessarily be a factor in day to day life but it will sometimes be the only factor we focus on. I think we are designed to love one person from the beginning of love until one of us passes away. When that inborn desire to be with only one person gets short-circuted by divorce or death we never get over it, not really.

  • @hammerogod I've never read those feelings so eloquently written.

  • @hammerogod

correction, if there is a TRUE love, you never LOSE it - therefore, the first love is not always and USUALLY ISN'T our first REAL LOVE.

and for science's sake as we are wired by our CREATOR, human beings are NOT wired to love only one person from the beginning - we are one of the least monogamous species god ever created - that's TRUTH. may not be what one likes to accept, but it is fact.

only thru multiple experiences, self discovery, standing in our truth do we find real love.

  • @inbetweentics

    I mostly agree.

It may be true that we are not sexually monogamous but it is demonstrable that we ARE "Spiritually" monogamous.

What I am saying is simple.

We can have important relationships with 1000s of partners but 'most' of us will find a life partner that satisfies that inner yearning.

Example: If that were not true why does Divorce ruin so many people's lives, permanently in most cases?

Desires of the 'Spirit' and the desires of the 'Flesh' don't always coincide.

  • MY DAD USED TO SING THIS SONG TO ME ALL THE TIME AS A KID! MY BEST FRIENDS NAME WAS LISA! IT HOLDS A DEAR PLACE IN MY HEART!

  • This is a great song. I really love Jessi Colter's voice! She's a wonderful singer!

  • I'm not Jesus, my name is Jamey; Jesus left you years ago. My eyes are not blue but mine won't leave you til the stars fall from the skies.

HE is our morning Star, sacrificed for you and I,

  • i tried hooking up with a Lisa last summer but she didnt know how to be a girlfriend..too much perscription junk and booze i guess

  • made the top 10 on the pop charts early summer of 75 i think

  • My name is Julie, I married my best friends husband 2 years after she passed away of rectal cancer. Her name was Lisa. I have dark hair and Brown eyes, Lisa had Blonde hair and Blue eyes. I know he still mourns Lisa. Seems like this song was written for me!

  • It's impossible for me to listen to this without crying...and this moment is the first time I've heard it since it was this version came out. I have no clue who did it first, but this is absolutely the BEST one. Thank you SO MUCH for posting (also the best post) one of my most favourite oldies ever!

  • @jtaforJesus Oh, you can best JESSI COLTER was the first. She wrote this song herself, recorded it, and took it to the top of the country and pop charts in 1975. It is one of the all-time classic songs. A few people think it's too sugar-y, but millions loved this, it made Colter a major recording star, and most critics saw it as a beautifully structured work of art and musical stylism. Aside from all that, it's just plain AWESOME.

  • I wanted to hear this for my DAD Thanks Matt

  • Beautiful Thank You

  • Wonder why Waylon loved her? Isn't this just incredible?

  • ~Great song~******

  • I saw her perform this song in the 1970s at a concert with Waylon in Bowling Green, KY. It was awesome. Thanks for posting

  • One of the saddest songs I ever heard. Makes me feel like I had just watched "Precious".

  • Letting go is not always easy but is a necessary part of life sometimes. There is always a purpose in life and a reason for everything... sometimes the one person you "think" is the love of your life..... really isn't. Then you meet someone that makes you feel like no other has ever made you feel before. Then and only then do you realize that "letting go" was what needed to be done.

  • @angelajoyner31

Angela- I used to think this song was about Lisa's leaving, but as I've listened numerous times lately, it seems as if "Julie is suggesting Lisa died...

  • 1 hit wonder on the pop top 40. Hit #1 country, #4 pop in Billboard. God bless!

  • Sweet memories

  • I think it is very sad...he lost his wife years ago...thinking life wouldnt go on..he met the new woman..he just has to learn to "let go" of the love of his life.

  • @angelajoyner31 if only letting go of the love of your life was that easy. The mind is a memory roulette wheel that never stops spinning.

  • Beautiful song by a beautiful lady. Thankyou for posting.

  • yes, my hubby's ex is named lisa, but i know in my heart he loves me more, and this is one of the most beautiful songs ever

  • It is. I remember when this came out on the radio and hearing it was like slow torture. Some guy I knew made fun of it singing "I'm not Lisa, my name is David..."

  • @andie531 lmao!!

  • @pwizard665 Not if it's fucked up before they got there by whites. Came to hear a pretty song thanks for spoiling it with your nasty azz filth ya mouth-breathing, knuckle dragging inbreed.

  • Stop it!! You both know we are all housing a soul. No need to get vicious with each other. We will never find peace on earth if this keeps up.

  • Stop it!! You both know we are all housing a soul. No need to get vicious with each other. We will never find peace on earth if this keeps up.

  • As a child I used to hear this song all the time. Unfortunately I do not like being called Julie.

  • This song is art. The man lost Lisa, Julie is his nurse. Julie knows he is in an emotional breakdown. She is patient. She will stay till he is well. "His hand led her away" Who's hand? Capital H? Who took Lisa? Gone, on a cold winter's day. Did God take her? Yes, God took her , man can't get over it. But his faithfull nurse, Julie, is going to see him through. Song too beautiful for words .

  • Interesting interpretation - my interpretation was more traditional - as in he used the wrong name at the wrong time........... sadly, it happens.

Despite the negative comments, I like the

song. Anyone got access to Elizabeth Cook's version..........please!!

  • I remember working at a few bars in Winnemucca Nevada and seeing that picture reminds me of the bar and what all us girls had to deal with. This song is old but man did we sing it as we drank our Jack and smoked our cigarettes, waiting for someone to call us Lisa. May God help them find peace, those girls I left behind over there.

  • im 42 and even tho I didnt really understand what the song was about, me and my sister would sing it and I would try to play the guitar lol. wow, how a song can bring back memories.

  • After 20 years I was talking to an old several years flame. As usual I was beyound my limit. Reality check. I called her by another' s name. No explaining that away.

  • a very haunting song.

  • my grandmother wrote this song:)

  • My gosh, that entire album by her was incredibly good.

Talk about memories--I'm in my 40s and my mom played her album, start to finish, every day when I was a kid. This was, of course, the big song, along with 'Blue Eyes.'

My God, hearing this song makes me think of summer. I can still smell the mowed lawn, being a kid with no worries or cares in the world. Wow.

  • same here she sleeps in heaven now..that 8 track played none stop..

  • @Vengeance509

...I was never fortunate enough to hear the entire album. I do recall the smell & thrill of mowed lawns, the naive innocense of youth in the days of 25 cent candybars and candy cigarettes at the local gas station and perhaps the beloved trust in sharing a 15 cent soda with many brothers, sisters and cousins that treated it as nectar. The world is irreparably different now and sometimes I think it can never be as it was. Simply, pure nor innocent...

  • You are so right. In order for us to go back to those times, we have to rid ourselves of tv's, video games, computers. It wasn't so bad to get a written letter. It makes my whole week getting a letter.

  • I agree, today's country music is nothing like the old time country. I'll admit some of today's songs are good but the artists aren't really getting the true emotion that comes with singing a classic song. Without any real emotion, it's just quacking. And country singers from the past didn't rely on such programs as American Idol like some of today's artists. A true classic never goes out of style, no matter how many years have passed since they last had a No. 1 hit.

  • Hey that was just amazing

i so loved this all the stars,

hugs wee deborah shasha xoxox faved

  • ...What a wonderful piece of Sonic Alchemy. I remember this song from so many years ago. I wish I could share with you all the wonderful memories that came with it, but alas, It and apart - Are what what makes us what we are...

  • Man has Country ever changed...this was a great find...wish the country genre had stayed true to itself.

  • agree to that one... todays country isn't country thanks to shinia and faith and garth.. and the ones out today...

  • good song i was named julie because of this song.

  • such a sweet song......

  • Country music, is not what it use to be.

I'm glad we can still listen, to counrty like this. Today's country is not the same.

    Miss, this. RIP Waylon.

  • I'm not sure this is country - it is certainly a ballad. Great voice, great song, great lyrics. Why do we have to categorise good songs?

    Peace requires acceptance.

  • i ready like how elizabeth cook sings this song.

  • Couldn't find this on a jukebox anywhere and I live in countrywestern America. It's such a beautiful song and she's gorgeous.

  • Dont fight it...Just go with it, until something else comes along

  • Wow, I was 9 years old. Still can't get over this song.

  • what a killer song to write for one of your very first songs. she sings it so great, it doesn't sound like its over 30 years old.

  • Oh I love this song so much. I can not stop listening to it. It is so hauntingly beautiful. Thanks for the post.

  • Wow! Beautiful... These nice harmonies, I just can't stop listening...

  • This was a big hit in my native South Africa in 1975.
