  • great band.

    great song.

    great album and great memories

  • a truly stunning timeless song...and im mailing them meat dresses so they can try get more famous, i reckon they dont care about fame though, even though they deserve to be multi millionaires because they can write songs as beautiful as this. They deserve the money more than footballers...

  • More than twenty years on...and still my most favourite song. Those days i din`t understand the lyrics, but i was blown away immediately by the deepness of it. So much sadness, so much emotion, so atmospheric so inexpressible, hard to say anything. I just want to let you know that nothing else from an artist haunted me and still haunting me as strong as this epic. And i love the video as well. The eighties and especially the end of it was the best era in rock. Thank you King`s X!

  • 3 dislikes? That's not cool

  • such beautiful tone all around, and Pinnicks voice is impeccable on this one.

  • If you've never seen this band, do yourself a huge favor and go. You will not regret it.

  • Thumbs up if you've seen this on Metal Mania Lol

    Love this!!

  • THIS SUCK! LISTNN TO JSTIN BIEBR 4 THE BESR MUSIKS!

  • I just found this band and my god they are fucking amazing!!!!

  • @arkangel268 Me too

  • man you have the best username in YouTube

  • It's the middle of August, 90 degrees, sunny, and I'm cranking a bitchin' tune called Summerland. Sweeeeeet !

  • Looking for new music, I came here after reading on allmusic.com that these guys are, right behind Dream Theater, the second greatest progressive metal band ever. My reaction: are you joking? I'm not denying these guys their musicianship at all, they are indeed talented, but come on! Off the top of my head I can name about 30 more intriguing prog bands than what I've seen thus far. If THIS is your idea of progressive music, you really owe it to yourself to check out more unique bands.

  • best live act ...I have ever seen !

  • Your sky can still be blue always in love with you....King's X you are da bomb in every friggin' way!!!!!

  • the groove at 2:!2 is bad ass!

  • @Deetroiter One of my favourite King's X grooves EVER

  • Gretchen Goes to Nebraska...right on....

  • Their best song...

Im thinking of doing a cover of this.

I love this song and his voice so much.

Met him once...he is a phenominal guy...very humble..and truly cares about music more than money. Cares about the art and making people feel what he is trying to say..

This song is a defining sonf for them.

  • Kings X is a great band and one of the best 3 piece bands in the modern age. What I felt that held back the band was the drumming. Doug P is the answer to Phil Lynott.

  • underated

  • King's X are not underrated. ask any veteran of this particular industry and see how well respected and admired they are.

King's X fans are true fans and seek what is good. not consumers spellbound by images.

no other band gets as much soulful loyalty and attachment as these guys do.

  • @ziftortion Right. Not underrated. Just not understood by all the sheep who gleefully suck up what ever crap the music industry puts on their plates.

  • They will play this song at my funeral.

  • Guys! You rock!

We will never forget the gig in Belsepub Gothenburg 1999 when EVERYONE in the audience were singin like 20 of your songs with three harmonies while we were waiting for you guys to show up on stage. The show was something we all will take with us. Probably a top 3 gig by anyone, anytime, anywhere. 10/10*

  • Love how they r allways defined as underrated, that is the furthest thing from truth. They sell out every show for 20 years and every rock musician including myself look at them as the greatest of all time. If that is underated I wish I was.

  • I saw King's X open for Pearl Jam in the early 90s.

  • "Out of the Planet comes Gretchen with Faith Hope and Love!!" - Chariot Song

  • Im I the only one who notes the musical similarity between kings X and ten era pearl jam? (I like both)

  • I think im probably one of the only teenagers who listen to King's X. Awesome band.

  • I have been listening to KING's X since first album ...Out of the Silent Planet.....I never have really understtod why they have received as little aclaim as they have. They have sheer raw talent and very mindfully written lyrics.....perhaps if they wore meat dresses, shot at other musicians, or disgraced themselves at award shows rather than write great music the "WORLD" would notice their talent. Sometimes I am so embarassed to live in these modern days!

  • @nwsommelier amen. They played in Idaho about two years ago, to a house of about 30 or 40...no lie....it was sad...but they gave a great show. You could tell Dug was a bit down about it, but he still sang and played his butt off....Kings X is awesome....and yes, tragically underrated and appreciated...but the real musicians and people that like good music know ;)

  • @glueforall I try not to think about it because if I do, it will literally bring me to tears. What a loss for the music world.

How sad for the band, too. Poor Doug.

Something went very wrong. They deserve better.

You know, there's a really great video to this song. Better even than the one to It's Love. And also one to over my head. I used to have them.

  • @nwsommelier I wanted to thumbs up to what you said so BAD but my mouse isn't registering with these guys somehow, because it didn't work!

  • @nwsommelier Because the singers a black guy lol

  • @nwsommelier Amen to that.

  • You know you've got a good band when you have to buy the CD 5 times. I'm glad you liked it, you thieves!

  • Have loved King's X since the Gretchen album came out. Even got to interview them in 1999 in Glasgow. Nicer guys you couldn't hope to meet :o)

  • i've always liked this song, And i've always liked Kings X. Really cool melody in this one.

  • Gretchen Goes to Nebraska is my vote for one of the best albums ever. If you don't know it, you don't know what you're missing!

  • I wish someone would upload Out Of The Silent Planet

  • @karlmoles65 I think someone did upload that song already :)

  • @karlmoles65 Yes I see they have now. It wasn't on here for years thought that I could find. Looks like someone uploaded the whole album. Which is awesome.

  • @karlmoles65 I have the cd if I was a better geek I'd help ya out

  • @moserr11 It's cool, I just drug out my vinyl to satisfy my King's X jones.

  • any chance getting "The Burning Down" uploaded?

  • Greatest singer in the history of the world.

  • these guys rock... aaahh, to be 19 again.

  • Saw Kings X in Richmond 5 years ago , Still shakin in my shoes!!

  • this is about music

to be taken in with ears and processed with the heart

couldn't care less about fashion, symbols, sexual orientation, faith or whatever else

if this music doesn't move you nothing will

  • @eGGsplore I couldnt have said it any better! Great post! Kings X rules!

  • Gretchen was one of the best albums ever. It should have sold 20 million copies but their record company did a sorry-ass job of promoting them.

  • love King's X. great message, get over belt buckles etc ... open your heart fer cryin out loud n quit dividing. maybe you prefer marilyn manson.

  • dude, listen to the lyrics of the songs, they are insanely christian. listen to "over my head" by them. or their new one "pray"

  • @bdrobbins1 In the song pray each verse goes over a different religion. Christianity is first, then Islam, then Jewish, then he talks to all of them and and says.."If you think your better off than me, then don't forget to pray for me." Spiritual and powerful. The songs had more Christian overtones in their earlier stuff for sure. I agree with you about Over My Head and some of the early songs.

  • fantastic song!

  • best spiritual band ever. and if Dug's gay, then i'm gay for HIM :-) best band of the 90s.....

  • The best you never heard in your life.

  • devil musicisas oldasozzy ozburnt and immi page of ledzeplin....bthof whom sy they ar vampires...and maybe yall r also that old ;0)

  • If god dosent like them !!! I sure as hell do...always how can you not respect pure god given talent .. Screw that comment about his belt buckel or whatever and that he is gay . So freakin what !!!!!

  • they "used" to get sales from Christians...

  • @compassionrepublican I know i was Christian at the time i heard KX.....And I still love them ...

  • @ByronW365 that symbol was originally a female symbol, the christians made it a satanic thing.back when they subjugated women.good old days eh?lol

  • @lordflanderwell Yeah i didnt know that !! And i just learned something !!!! Thanks thats what i tell my kids!! even though iam not in school anymore i learn new stuff all the time

  • look closely at the lead singers'(black guy) belt buckle...

  • @TheLedezma76 What about it?

  • @HorridFroth it looks like either a pentagram or a pentacle. i always knew them as a christian band.

  • @TheLedezma76 Ah - yeah, I had the same thought - although Doug Pinnick being gay isn't inkeeping with the christian theme either!

  • @TheLedezma76 And you do know what the symbol really means right?

  • @perkesaata to my knowledge... a pentacle is a symbol used in pagan, usually wicca, religions. the pentagram is supposed to be used in darker practices...

  • Comment removed

  • good job posting this man. love this song, this band, and Ty's tone is sick!

  • They are TREMENDOUS.

P.S.: EAR CANDY is one of the best hard rock records EVER

  • just heard these dudes yesterday (sue me) but I'm digging the prog sound. I know thats not all they prolly do, but if anyone can recommend any albums or songs that have this tone and vibe I'd appriciate it.

  • @ebrown Their 2nd, 3rd and 4th albums all sound like this one. The albums are: Gretchen Goes To Nebraska, Faith Hope Love, and the self-titled album (King's X). Summerland is from the GGTN album.I'm not sure if these albums are still available.

  • @jcmmanuel thanks. I'll be sure to check them out.

  • Gretchen Goes to Nebraska is their best, album. But it was the most popular so the dies-hards will repute this claim with strong conviction.

  • @ebrown Their first four albums sound (for the most part) a lot like this. 'Out of the Silent Planet', 'Gretchen goes to Nebraska', 'Faith Hope Love', and their Self Titled album were produced by the same guy. Great stuff. I've heard these albums a thousand times........well since I was around 7 or 8 years old and I'm 29 now, and still, it never gets old!!!

  • I love King's X. Been a fan since I got Dogman at 14 years old. It was new then so thats like 15 years now. Geez...

  • ...Why is it that they look so old in this old picture, but they look new and fresh in Alone, which was only 5 years ago?!

  • My favorite band of all times hands down!!! I'm still po'd that I missed their gig in the Rock this year:(

  • yep, this song fucking rules

  • Oh,,, I'm with you bro. When Doug walks around after the show and signs autographs and talks with the fans it's just like. Oh my God this is awesome.... Yea, I feel you on the eight year old kid thing. Peace....

  • i fell really stupid that i had that kings X typo, even thought it was a month ago, i worked in a guitar shop and the owenr would play all this cool shit and i would rummage through his stuff and i found 2 kings X albums and i was like WOAH, and now kings X is one of my fave bands

  • King's X was like the first band out of the eighties to have a lead singer sing like a man instead of a woman. Doug influenced the Seatle man voices of Vedder and Stayley and Wieland. Vedder gives props to Doug in the album sleeve of Ten....

  • @DarkoMarco72

They weren't the first. There are tons of metal vocalist that are good. I have no idea why people always rag on the 80s so much. Back then it was fantastic, and still is. Nothing wrong with having a badass shrill.

  • You say good and shrill in the same sentence such is your misunderstanding of my statement. I said sing like a man instead of a woman. Their are some really good men singers who sing like a bitch, I admit that, but my personal preference is a male vocalist to sound like a man. I love King's X, and you do too or you wouldn't be here. So atleast we agree on they being totally kick ass....

  • @DarkoMarco72 Dude I've actually noticed there is a slight tonal difference between when a man has shrill vocals and when a woman has shrill vocals.

  • Amzing soaring solo, and I love the vocals starting at 2:08. So raw and splitting wide open with emotion. It's as if there are two voices. Badass.

  • This was one of my fav. in the middle of the 90's. Pinnick Tabor Gaskill, greetings!

  • AWESOME......

  • HELL YEAH!!!!!!!

  • perfection!

  • fucking kings z is the shit, used to have 2 albums until my computer fucked up and they were gone forever :(, but its cool cause i get to listen to this song on youtube

  • love this band

  • one of the most underated bands ever.saw them in 1989..we waited after the show..jerry gave me both his drumsticks and we were invited onto the tour bus..really nice guys.

the 1st 2 albums are true classics

  • One of the few really 'flawless' songs. Everything about it is perfect. Absolutely blew me away on vinyl when i was a teenager and lovely to hear it now.

  • Kings X are the answer to Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott

  • the most underated band ever.

  • your right they were marketed as a metal band and it was wrong. Same with Badlands and White Lion they were marketed as metal but they were just 70's hard rock.

  • @rb7magnetico yeah,i saw these guys at sheffield city hall 89?support anthrax of all people!

    a mis-match!!!

strange thing..all the "moshers" and "thrashers",loved it,1st couple of songs, everyone hooked in!

    fantastic!

  • I can see that because they were on the same record label here in the USA. I read years ago Blackmore tried getting Doug to do a project with Rainbow or with Deep Purple. I always wanted to hear Kings X versions of Thin Lizzy tunes.

  • @rb7magnetico i alway's thought that was fascinating considering blackmore wanted lynott for the original rainbow. supposedly baby face with lynott, blackmore and paice did a few demo's but i don't think anyone ever heard them or really know if they exist

  • Wow I neber knew RB wanted Lynott for Rainbow. I know he asked Coverdale. I am a huge fan of Thin Lizzy. I heard of the Baby face project but never really looked for it as I will now. Checkout Gary Moores SKID ROW if you like that 70's protomeatl rock/blues.

  • @rb7magnetico I will agree with your comment on King's X and Badlands but White Lion? C'mon... how can they be considered 70's rock?

  • @Driftn23 I saw them in them in their infancy and they were the Van Halen of NYC.Vito Bratta was worth seeing. What ruined them was the media labeling them sort of like when King's X was labeled as a "christian band" .

  • Oh ok, I'm pickin up what your layin down now I think.

  • @rb7magnetico This is Ty Tabor dude.

  • @austingunsmoke what is this in regards to?

  • True True...... The albums are good all the way through. You don't just listen to a song, you listen to the whole album. I love King's X

  • @zepxdt not the most underated... but definately one of them

  • @zepxdt fag

  • @zepxdt Actually not true....just the nature of the business....these Cats are totally rated by their peers as slayers.Put them on your bill and get your head chopped off. There's never been enough room for everybody to reach the pot o' gold(but the pot o' gold isn't what it's all about,it's the message) and then if you get a live act that is totally phenomenal (Kings X) the word spreads and it's the nature of the business but you don't let them in...you can't...it'll be your death.Kings X.

  • @zepxdt I rate them right up there with one of the best Three man bands ever and thats RUSH!!!

  • Your sky can still be blue

    Always in love with you......

  • good song!

  • my dad jus put me on this band rite now, doug pennick, stay smobbin & rockin til pyramid tyme comez.... KING'S X

  • the memories!

  • One of the most original sounding bands of all time. . They are AMAZING!
